You guys asked for it, and after 2 years we fairly filmed our long term review of the GU Auto Technician 12.1 Tesla style display for the F150.

Great update guys! I'm in the same boat with my GUA system. Support just told me that they ran into android auto hardware restrictions on this android head unit lol. They also said they had trouble with licensing for android auto. It's still sitting in my f150 only because I'm too lazy to take it out. When I find time my oem screen is going back in and I'm using my Binize box for all my applications!

It really sucks. I think it may have been a cost thing. Licensing probably just cut into profits too much and they are letting the product die

I have the 13inch in my 2017 Raptor and i love it. Works great! It did take some troubleshooting in order to get everything working the way i wanted but its all good now and wireless carplay and internet is awesome

Glad to see this review, as I was looking into the 12" GUA. Yet I'd been apprehensive on spending the money. I'll be doing some more research into the Linkswell. Might just leave it as is a well.

Yeah, it looked cool and all, but thats where the benefit ended for me. Im enjoying the stock system much more now

These systems are very flashy, but in everyday use they have a lot of drawbacks and the stock systems just work better. We’ve heard better reviews from linkswell and phoenix but we’ve also heard similar issues too. So it’s best to figure out what’s important to you and then match it to a system that has a track record of software updates to it’s not so buggy.

@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad, so very true. Even though I was looking into the possibility of putting one of these in. I have the belief that if it's not designed to be in the vehicle from factory you should leave well enough alone. Great review on a buggy product. Thank you both for the comment back.

thanks for share, I did put the Tesla screen, with Car Play, and works amazing... but, doesn't compatible with AC. but, i did the installation separate and independent... I love the Tesla screen on my truck.

The total replacement units are terrible. The ones that pair with factory HVAC and interfaces aren't Terrible. I've replaced the one in my Focus ST and my Ram with aftermarket android radios they've held up great for the last few years with occasional glitches here and there but nothing deal breaking. But I'm finally caving and buying a Sync 3 system for the Focus, it's hard to beat the OEM informatainment system for anything built after roughly 2016ish

What systems did you have? We both agree with you here and talk about it in the video. Those with the separate climate controls are so much better because you don’t have to wait for the system to boot to control hvac.

@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad in the dodge, I have the newer generation linkswell system, it's great, 0 issues with it. But my focus has a generic Chinese radio I bought off eBay, equivalent to a Phoenix, but it's been glitching out for a while now, the backup camera stopped working and so on, the car originally had a sync 2 system I've been tempted to reinstall it for a while now, it's just the ST dash is such a pain to take apart it wasn't worth it. The only redeeming fact is climate control and the screen are separate

I keep hearing good thinks about linkwell. Specially with updates, they do regular updates for software and hardware too. I hear you on the Chinese branded ones. Had one in my e39 and it was awful and no software support

Another great video KID!!... I was thinking about the big screen for my '18 Gen 2... I have the loaded model with the B&O system... absolutely luv it... So I gather yud recommend leaving the stock head unit/system??

Yeah man. Our experience with this was not great. There are other brands with better support but they are all android tabled based system. They all have tons of bugs, audio quality is questionable, and I feel like there aren’t many honest long term reviews out there on them. You get a lot of initial users that like how flashy they are and that’s it

I did the sync 3 upgrade on my gen 1 and imo it was 100% worth it! I hated the sync 2 i couldnt even connect my phone to Bluetooth half the time

Most are doing the sync3 upgrade over a large screen unit. Specially if they want to keep the heated and ventilated seats as some aftermarket units don’t account for the soft buttons for them. I’m thinking we may do the sync 3 system on my truck

Sync 3 is a nice system. I really like the integrated android auto and how it displays google maps and my phone's media player. You dont even need to go with the more expensive APIM that has the Nav built in if you'll be using your phone for maps

I think that may be my next upgrade then, my sync2 is having some glitches and the screen gets stuck sometimes. Mainly for me is i have to have a cd player!

It does not. Once you take out the sync system, all the features tied to it like trailer assist are gone. It can interface with the stock cameras and show them to you but that’s it.

That good an all, but this system does not have access to the play store so you would have to host it on your phone. Yeah it makes no sense since this is android based. But that’s one of the biggest drawbacks of this system

Agreed. So much potential from this system and it’s all ruined by limited firmware support and no access to the Google play store like other system.

@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad I was going to buy one of their newer systems.. 13" Android 12 system. it is a lot cheaper than the PX6 version. Not sure if the PX6, which is unavailable, is really that much better. Can't find any reviews of the newer systems, either. not sure if I should now. it says I can keep all OEM functions, but.. I have an 09 F150, so I have the big ugly nothing radio. it has to go, but not sure what to get.

Yeah look into other companies that have better and regular firmware updates like lynkwell
