I remember reading an article that Newey was reinvigorated w/ the addition of Honda at Red Bull, watching them overcome & becoming competitive, and that he really enjoys working with him. Having them being the works partner is at Aston Martin was also probably something that caught his eye as well.

I think a bigger motivator than all of that is the fact that Aston allowed him to build a supercar with them and the fact that it's now racing in WEC, Newey loves sportscars and sportscar racing. They will let him get back to work on that front as well.

Two things I can see at play with the Checo situation. Firstly he brings a stack load of money with him, and is a profit generating machine in Mexico. Secondly who to replace him with, Lord Helmut (SpaceBalls movie reference there) doesn't want him in the seat and is trying to secure his legacy with the young driver program. Ricciardo hadn't performed as expected in the first half of the season. Tsunouda is a Honda backed driver and is on the outer as Honda are leaving their RBR ties. Lawson doesn't have any brand recognition at the moment and is still and bit green. And the wildcard Hadjar is somewhat untested and is reportedly more of a loose cannon than Tsunouda, though to Yuki's credit he has calmed down considerably in recent times.

Lance has shown zero ability to win, and the team has consistently gone down since last spring, so I’m really thinking Lawerence is tired of burning money. From what I gathered, mr. Newey likes to work at his own leisure. That is the workpace Christian Horner provided for him and what brought the team succes. Laurence Stroll doesn't strike me as someone who accepts someone doing the work at his leisure unless your name is Lance Stroll. Even from Newey maybe especially from Newey, Stroll will have skyhigh expectations. Is Dan Fallows going to be pushed asside like yesterday's news just like so many people working for Stroll? Max and Lance in one team, can you imagine . The idea just made me chuckle. I mean Jos and Laurence in the same sentince gives me the hives allready. I think it is fascinating to see what Carlos can do in a Williams. In a way it's a bit like Ricciardo's move to ViCarb. Can he wrangle that car into the top 10 every race. That is a challenge in on itself and as a fan I am stoked to see what Williams can do.

The objection at Aston is for Daddy Stroll to make Baby Stroll world champion. He couldn’t get him in a top team so he buys a team hoping that will work. Several have touched on this below but I emphasise it more. To my mind it's the working with Honda again that sweetens the pot and makes joining AM irresistible for Adrian N. Adrian is the king of tight packaging to improve airflow - when at Williams G P Eng he gave Patrick Head the challenge of designing a VERY small gearbox and Patrick H went home to concentrate on that task for a few weeks. Hence the rumours of Adrian N surrounding himself at AM with his team of known engineers to turn his concepts into reality very quickly. No time to waste.

Personally, I would like to see Newey go to Williams. What a great story that would be to bring a team from the bottom of the grid to the top. But, it's unlikely. Ferrari really needs something. Their performance is so erratic that they need help.

I see two options : either Newey is as good as we all think, and that would mean that if he goes to Aston, Lance is out. Or Newey is not as good as we think. Because as long as a team keeps a sub-part team member around, it means the leadership is not committed and doing its job. The top boss's job is first and foremost, to put together the best team possible. If they are ready to retire Lance, then it would be a major step towards maturity and committment.

Aston's entire premise so far is to have Lance rance in F1. Checo's results in the last months has been so bad, his seat is clearly in big jeopardy, and likely the main reason he is still there is that RB believes they will win constructor this year still, but that their priority is to win the driver championship.

Now RB have given Helmut Marko a new contract, surely that has closed off Max Verstappen leaving RBR early? The reported exit clause he had was linked to Helmut Marko remaining. I'm sure it's no coincidence that Sainz finally made up his mind and signed for Williams shortly after Marko's new contract was announced, as Sainz had been waiting to see if Max left RBR so he could get that seat. (I wonder if we'll see Sainz in a Merc next year on loan, with Antonelli taking his Williams seat in a swap.) Max could still try to negotiate his way out of RBR, but it would cost him an astronomical amount. And the way things are with the driver market, I can't see them letting him go at any price.

Being Canadian, I would really like to see Aston Martin do well. But not as long as Lance is driving, if that's what you can call it! He has done a bit better as this season progresses, but there are others much more deserving of that ride. And Fernando should have someone helping him with getting team points. I can't see Newey going to Aston Martin, no matter how much he's offered. He doesn't need (or seem interested in) the money. And he's clearly after something which interests him, which I don't think the AM job would. Ferrari would cross two things off his bucket list - Ferrari & Lewis Hamilton - and he could have the overseeing role (getting hands on where he choses) that he had at RBR. (AM doesn't seem to offer that.) My bet is on him going to Williams, if Dorilton are smart enough to offer him a stake in the team (what he always wanted, but which Frank wouldn't let him have). That would surely appeal to him, both returning them to the top and closing the circle.

RBR didn’t drop time. McLaren gained laptime. Max had pole in Spa, remember. Max in the RB20 is still FAST but not the fastest car right now. That’s the McLaren. The CFD and windtunnel allocation restrictions for the Constructors championship were to make sure the other teams have more testing time so they can close the gap and McLaren did that best. RB20 is still faster than the RB19. Max won 7 of the 14 races. Max is leading the Drivers by almost 80 points on Lando in P2.

Newey designed all RBR cars for 18 seasons… 4 championships with Vettel, 3 with Max so far, 6 Constructors championships so far. And that’s only at RBR. Newey has designed championship winning cars at other F1 teams too…and he designed for Indycar too back in the day. Newey is so much more than winning with RBR. Read his book…. He isn’t called the most succesful designer BY THE EXPERTS without reason… That’s why Ferrari and AM want him…

My guess aston wont be better with Newey, look at other sports, teams like PSG in football, blow millions of dollars and go nowhere. You need great leadership, great culture, and much more to succeed, to me aston just seems like a team that will blow money on big names without first considering if the person fits in that environment.

This is the only time I can recall during Alonso's tenure at Aston that I've found myself praying that they retain Lance to partner Fernando. Because if Newey can make a car that will deliver podiums and wins, I think Stroll can step up as a very strong 2nd driver just like Rubens was for Michael. But if they bring in Max to partner Stroll, it's gonna be Red Bull all over again where the car only works to Max's liking and Stroll will definitely struggle. And if Fernando stays and Lance is ousted in favor of Max, well...his pairing with Lewis in 2007 will look rosy in comparison to what we'll witness between those two, and there's not a chance in hell that Mike will be able to manage them.

Lance can't be a Rubens, don't do Rubens like that, Lance has had plenty of time to show that he can deliver when it matters and he kinda hasn't, he's a mediocre driver that can from time to time, put together above average performances.

@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks Haha you're right, he's no Rubens, BUT - I'd argue even Lance would be doing better in that second Red Bull right now than Perez, though I suppose the same could be said for most of the grid. I do think if given a great car by Newey, he could manage some good-scoring races.

@F1Elvis It also gives them an unfair advantage on track. Eighteen drivers are racing against all the other drivers, team mate excluded. Red Bull drivers are racing against sixteen other drivers because under no circumstances is Ricciardo or Tsunoda allowed to race Verstappen or Perez. They have to be the most cowardly team ever in F1. Scared of losing Verstappen, scared of losing Newey. Scared of putting a proper driver alongside Verstappen. Cowardly mob.

If Verstappen wants to be known as an Adrian Newey merchant just like many drivers before him, then yes, he will follow Newey to Aston Martin. If he wants to prove he can win without Newey, then he'll stay at Red Bull.

If Newey is the reason for RBR success today, can anybody explain why he had no answers to Mercedes during their long run? F1 is a team effort, no team has the many workers because one guy has all the skill. Let’s witness Stroll buying every possible skilled person from other F1 team without the leadership it took to build the winning team. Hopefully the other teams show AM up and keep winning. McLaren and Ferrari and RBR, time to sharpen the attention to detail and just Win.

@@F1Elvis If Newey has get all the credit for the success of the teams he worked in, then this superior knowledge should have delivered continuous results, what about the gaps in which there was little success, he had no success during the Rory Byrne era at Ferrari. I don’t want to take away his contribution but it would seem as if all if given to him and the rest of the team crew swept the floors during his tenure. Newey seems to be more on the Jos/Marko destruction train than giving credit to the whole team and somehow Horner gets no credit simply because of the women saga that could only have been the idea of Jos. That’s where RBR problems started, and let him take that to AM, see if Stroll will take his shit, it will strongly disrupt Max racing career.

Ok but does that actually make a difference to which teams you sign with? Many of the F1 drivers live in Monaco but that doesn't seem to stop them racing for teams based in the UK. F1 teams already travel all over the world during the racing season so are we saying that if Newey signs with Aston he's only going to be at the British GP and no other race during the season. That seems unlikely

He might not have to for Ferrari. You may recall that John Barnard was so desired by Maranello, they built (the only ever) a design centre outside Italy (in Guildford) for him to design winning cars from. It worked

Meh, Newey won't fix or help Aston imo. They're the epitome of the old saying 'All the gear and no idea'. Stroll Sr runs that place like a 1980s egotsicial billionaire villain. Force India did way more with far less. Newey's in the sunset stage of his career & hasn't taken an active role in F1 full time for like 10 years now. Even if you nail a miracle rule change regs, where's the future long term vision beyond Newey?

Adrian himself said that very soon all teams are converging and will be only fine tuning the difference or the engine. Closer to the ground you go better the down force will be. For 2026 only unknown is the engine itself. The aero will be simplified and probably teams will converge again. From then the driver is going to be essential in winning or losing a GP.

I think Perez is being kept on to give riccardo a better chance to improve his results. Riccardo has been destroyed by yuki and it would have looked bad had yuki not got the seat now. So i think perez will be sacked, replaced by riccardo regardless and lawson alongside yuki...
