We have a 2022 RAV 4 Prime model SE. My wife and I went fishing via N/W Oregon's Coast Highway 101 total trip was 155 miles. 51 miles on electric and the remainder 104 miles just on gas for 51.3 MPG readout from the dash. Note when the battery was depleted and the gas engine fired up I quickly reset the gauge to display MPG and recorded the odometer reading as well. Speeds ranged from 25 MPH to 60 MPH as 101 goes through a few towns and also a few miles on rural back roads as well. I was driving for fuel economy but not holding up traffic and keeping up with the flow of traffic. Temps were high 50's to low 60's with mainly dry roads.

Awesome. Yeah, lower speeds and warmer temps would improve things a lot. Thank you for sharing!

Fantastic! Sounds like you take advantage of the EV driving on a regular basis.

Also, fun fact, you're currently achieving 183.33 mpg 👍

Went from Woodbridge CA to Mammoth Lakes, CA via Sonora Pass the other day and had respectable numbers. 210.1 miles, 4h21min, 44% EV, 39.7mpg, and that was going changing altitude by over 9,000feet. 78.8 miles long with an average of 8% grade and peaking at 26% grade. Testimony of the vehicle’s fuel economy.

If your driving mostly on EV mode don't have a full gas of tank, doesn't make sense to haul dead weight. I own a Prime I only have about 2 gallon of gas in the tank, I only fill up the tank when I travel far.
@viewsonvehicles2 жыл бұрын
That's a good tip. But this particular test focused on a depleted battery to get an idea of the efficiency of the engine and hybrid system.

@@badimpulses17 For sure and it's a good tip. Takes a good 100 lbs. of weight out of the car.

Such so low. What about the fuel pump inside your gas tank that’s needs lubricant?
@badimpulses1710 ай бұрын
@@verynick There is also reserve gas in the tank. When it says empty you can drive about another 100 miles before the refill light comes on.

We have a 2022 Rav4 prime with 25k miles of use ,, Get over 50+ miles on EV all the time .. In hybrid mode 45 mpg is the norm .
@reaality38602 жыл бұрын
The 18" wheels, heaver Prime package, roof rails, and not using the EV mode, will all hurt the average RAV4 MPGs. My 2022 RAV4 EXL Hybrid just performed a 43.2 MPG average on a 67-mile drive down a two-lane 55 mph road this past weekend. (Temp. Near 65 F)
@CarrotChewinCoyote Жыл бұрын
Why are you basing this as a hybrid only? Why wasn't your battery charged so it could run for 40 miles on EV first then do a gas based eMPG?
@viewsonvehicles Жыл бұрын
If I start with a full battery, I get infinite MPG while on battery power. That's true of every EV. This was testing the efficiency of the rest of the powertrain as that is where there is huge variability.
@ahbenjamin2889 Жыл бұрын
Robin I very much enjoy your videos. How long would the electrical charge last if the driver was using the gas component of the hybrid system? And how much horsepower would be available to the driver under such circumstances? Does the gas engine recharge the electrical portion of the system? If yes is the answer to all these questions then I would rather get the Prime over the regular hybrid system ( if one can get a Prime ).
@viewsonvehicles Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Unfortunately, I cannot concretely answer your questions. Driving style plays a HUGE role in how long the battery last, and, indeed, how often the gas engine kicks on. In my experience, the Prime makes a compelling case for itself because the battery pack is big enough to be EV only most the time as long as you stay in town.
@faisal-ca2 жыл бұрын
It was helpful. So my assumption about PHEV being a 100 percent EV turned out to be not correct. I drive 16 miles to work so I was hoping I could just stay on Electric all the time. Looks like I will need to wait for EVs to be more widely available before making the switch.

@@chrisg5101 I have a heavy foot and can't control it. It's a common feedback that if you exert car taps into gas mode. Scotty has also talked about it
@pjfessier2 жыл бұрын
With the Prime you have about 42 miles of range depending on weather and speed. The prime doesn't automatically switch to HV mode so you can drive all electric and stomp on the gas, it will stay electric. So if you have a 32 mile round trip you you can stay all electric if you want and then only use gas when you go on longer trips. That's what I do and it's working out well. So no it's not 100 % EV but if you are just driving around town you can drive it %100 EV and never use gas.

Do you have cross bar in your roof?
@rogerokeefe37992 жыл бұрын
75 miles per hour is ridicules, no way to get predicted mpg!
@viewsonvehicles2 жыл бұрын
That's driving with traffic, being passed more often than passing. Furthermore, many cars beat their highway fuel economy numbers at 75 mph. In other words, no, 75 mph is not ridiculous. Weather played a bigger role than anything, it was windy for starters. And this particular RAV4 had cross bars installed on the roof rails.
@christinearmington2 жыл бұрын
So the oft touted 600 mile range requires city driving. Better range hours more time! 🤦♀️
@pjfessier2 жыл бұрын
With mine it would also require you to drive 100 or so miles beyond when it says 0 range for the HV mode. Fully charged it will say about 480 miles range with the all electric and HV combined. I've filled up the car when the range was 0 and it only took 11 gallons. So after the orange low fuel light has been on for 20 plus miles and my range says 0, I should have about 125 miles left of range. I'm not sure if this is true of all Primes, but it's not uncommon.

I have the Rav4 Prime. It’s a really good car, I considered the Kia, but the thing is the the Kia’s reliability hasn’t been proven like the Toyota which has decades of reliability credibility, not only that I know that the Rav4 will hold it’s value years and years from now and the Kia won’t approach the same resale value.
