Great video 🤓!!! Last year in February 2023, I acquired my new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 which has the 4L NA flat six cylinder engine (same unit as a GT4) and a PDK gearbox. Power output (394 bhp) and torque (317 lb-ft) are a nice match to this car's sensible curb weight (~3200 lbs). The color is Gentian Blue metallic with a black/chalk all-leather interior and silver wheel rims. It's definitely an entertaining driver's car! So far, I've only done 452 miles but hopefully a lot more this coming Summer! The PDK is also a lot of fun (it's definitely quick) 🤓 All the best and thanks again from Colorado! This is the best review I have seen on the GTS 4.0 as in overall content. I absolutely agree on the manual transmission. Had BMW's with DCT and Lamborghini's but when I recently drove a Porsche 718 2 litre with manual shift it was so, so so good. I forgot how more involved and engaging driving a manual shift was. The handling of the 718 was amazing and that was without the Porsche Active Suspension Management (Lowered 10mm) , like you say nimble, athletic. Now waiting for my 718 GTS 4.0 to arrive early in 2022.

@@husseinlala1940 I have had my 718 Cayman 4.0 for just under a year. For me it is my weekend car, I have a model 3 Tesla for a daily. Impressions after a year. Unbelievable handling car, I say to my friends you would have to be totally drunk to crash that car, its just that good. Feedback through the steering is so alive and you feel really connected with what's happening with the car. My Tesla is awful in comparison, no feedback or road feel at all through the steering wheel. The 718 isn't the fastest car when it comes to straight line speed. Sure its fast but not superfast. But it is the fastest cornering car I've driven, unbelievable grip so can hold speed through corners its the total package as an allrounder. Fast, awesome handling, very comfortable on long trips, enough luggage space to keep the wife happy. Looks great too in black. Its a joy to drive. If you want a drivers car buy a Porsche, if you want a Wow factor car that gets peoples attention buy a Lambo, however the driving experience may be disappointing IMO. Cheers

Came to this video a bit late! Great review. I’m still stuck between a manual and PDK - haven’t locked my order in yet.
@viewsonvehicles Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Me personally? I'd go manual for the additional connection to the car, but the PDK is a great gearbox, you basically cannot go wrong.

Thank you so much. Great test with a wonderful car. A flat 6, 4.0 litres, it is heaven almost 400 HP. More powerful than a basic 911 (385 HP) you need to choose a 911 GTS (420 HP) if you want to drive faster than this CAYMAN GTS.

You’re welcome! Thank you for such a wonderful comment! And you’re right, the Cayman GTS is mighty impressive.

Great review. I've always been a manual gearbox guy. However, my issue with the 718 GTS MT is how long the gears are. 2nd is good for 85mph, which means you're never really getting the full benefit of the power unless you're consistently breaking the law. The PDK isn't quite as engaging, but it certainly makes better use of the power and gearing at reasonable speeds. If you're tracking the car, it's probably not as big of a deal. But for street driving or autocross, I feel the PDK is probably the more logical pick. But, who says you have to be logical when you want to just have fun.
@viewsonvehicles2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree on the manual vs. PDK, 1st and 2nd gear are quite tall. But, just as you say, it’s not about objective lap time, it’s about enjoying the drive. And a manual transmission gives you a closer, more involved relationship with the car. And thank you very much for the compliment.
@johnwheeler30193 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong I love the manual box, but the pdk driven in manual mode using either the paddles or the shifter is so much fun to drive. Most reviews don't drive the pdk properly. I got my gt4 in pdk and love it!
@viewsonvehicles3 жыл бұрын
Totally fair point. The PDK is among the best dual clutch boxes out there. But it still isn’t quite the same as having a clutch pedal and a manual. More than anything, it depends on your driving style and preferences.

Thing is most reviewers rave about the manual but at the end of the day something like 90 percent of Porsches are sold in pdk
@viewsonvehicles2 жыл бұрын
@@manfromwuhan714 I guess we’ll have to rave longer and louder. The manual is fantastic! Again, if you prefer the PDK, it’s a fantastic gearbox.

I beg to differ on the Transmission, I've gone with the PDK, with flappy paddles... faster 0-60 and gives you that racing feeling

If you prefer the PDK, fantastic! It's a great box and certainly shifts quicker than anyone can manage with their hands. I just love the additional control I get with a manual.

@@CS21dude true, but even in light load conditions, cylinder pressure is higher with combustion, so I think it’s cool to keep it even.

Hi Robin, great review. I have a GTS on order in crayon ( I think you guys have a different descriptor for this colour ). I have looked at loads of reviews, as I have quite a wait on my hands, I have to say that your review is right up there. Nice to see someone comparing the 4.0 to the other options, I currently have a 981 with aftermarket sports exhaust and I would miss the noise if nothing else. The roar of that 4 litre is something I can’t wait to hear. Keep up the good work - Richard, London England

Yeah, I agree, first and second gear ratios are tall. But I still prefer to do it myself. That said, the PDK is a great gearbox, if you're foregoing a clutch pedal, that's the best way to do it.

Hi Robin, if it was your money would you buy the T or the GTS? Is the GTS worth the extra money? Great review - really demonstrated the joy of driving! Thank you
@viewsonvehicles3 жыл бұрын
First and foremost, thank you very much for your comment! Short answer: GTS. Love that engine! Long answer: depends on my disposable income. The Boxster T is really great to drive and affordable to many more people than the GTS. And, in that sense, it’s a great bargain and a great car. But if I had all the money I needed, I’d probably go full bonkers and get the GT4.
@josephlim8941 Жыл бұрын
GTS interior package is a no brainer for $2500. Aside from the red stitching, it gives you leather dashboard and doors. You do not want to go with soft plastic dashboard & doors. I also find it unnecessary to go with 14/18 way adjustable seats. There’s no one sitting behind you and you’re gonna be the only driver (unless spouse drives stick). PDK is $5000 option. Not to mention the motors add weight.

Very nice review. I have totally impractical 718 spyder MT in Florida no less. Prior one was a base 718 boxter PDK which was an awesome car too. Probably should have had a MT base boxter which would have been a wonderful car. I must say though that these modern cars are quite cushy and not as analog and writhing around like from a decade ago. And these older cars are way too overpriced for their years sadly especially if you daily drive them.
@viewsonvehicles6 ай бұрын
Thank you! And 718 spyder is gorgeous! I love the Boxster manual, but the gearing is quite tall. That's my only gripe. And agree, a bit more hard edged would be welcome for driving fun.

Would you happen to know in your experience being an editor and probably testing dozens of Porsches in the past, if they are have any issues on the track? I.e Engine Cooling, braking etc. ? Specifically regarding this model, gts4.0
@viewsonvehicles2 жыл бұрын
Not firsthand, no. If you want a regular track day car, the Cayman GT4, and GT4 RS will provide bigger thrills. But in terms of durability, I’m confident this GTS would hold up without trouble. I’ve driven much heavier Panamera’s on track, GTS and Turbo S e-hybrid, and they withstood punishment just fine, brakes and all.

The manual sucks. I had the manual. It’s a slower way to drive a fast car. You said you can pick the gear you want with the manual, but do you not know you can pick your gear with the dual clutch as well. I like a Volkswagen golf in a manual or a mini Cooper however when I’m spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a car that has a 4 L engine, I’m not going to get it in a manual transmission may be if it was a Roadster and I was gonna drive it slow and just kind of cruise and relax.
