Update: Some folks are reporting squeaking from the Kevlar. If I had to do it again, I'd use the rubber mounts. Not because of squeaking in my case, but because of how stiff it is. Consider this when you purchase your mounts. If you want to use Amazon, you can click the "Dorman" link below and it'll take you to the front mounts and display the other rubber mounts. Although it should go without saying, please ensure you select the right product for your truck! Do your due diligence.
After breaking down in North Carolina, we had to have the truck worked on for the oil cooler which required lifting the cab. At completion, he told me that the cab mounts were bad and suggested I replace them. I was already well over $3000 so I figured I'd let my mechanic do it when we got home because we needed time to recover the budget. Well, it's time to do it, but my mechanic wanted too much so I researched it and decided to do it myself. After getting into it, I ran into 2 major issues with my 2008 body mount replacement. 1. The two front mounts were seized up and I had to cut them out. 2. The cage nuts on 2 of the body mounts were stripped so I had to resolve that too. This is a video of all of it. Truck and RV maintenance definitely falls into the realm of RVing and if you're not prepared for it, you might as well not even undertake RVing in my opinion.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Just had a front end alignment and my dealer told me about my body mounts pretty much gone. I haven't looked yet because it got late and freezing out. Im exactly like you. Ford wanted 1700.00$$$$$$$ freaking dollars to loosen 8 bolts. Im a jack of all trades and also save money where I can. I watched this because a neighbor asked for help doing the mounts on his 2015 F250 since he knows I do most of my own work on my truck. My 2008 F350 DRW could probably benefit from new mounts, too. I should have done this when I replaced the radiator. This certainly gives me a head start. Thanks.

Great video! I did this a couple years ago on a 2005 F350 and this week I am doing it on my 2008 F450. The 2008+ are different as they can be done from underneath without removing the floor mat/carpet (if you don't break the nut retainers). I am using another brand of bushing (Energy Suspension) and all the videos I pulled up on that were rednecks breaking everything and not showing how to separate the upper and lower halves.

Hummm, good question. My truck was already beefed up--shocks, springs, sway bar, air bags, etc--to pull a fifth wheel. Sometimes when I go at an angle down something, I hear a hard noise, but I've not felt any harsher of a ride simply due to the kevlar. My fronts aren't kevlar so maybe that helps??

Great video. Did you do any research on which mounts to purchase? I know a lot of people have said the old rubber ones are best vs the orange neoprene ones but I see you have something I have never seen before and that is the kevlar. Where in Arkansas do you live, I am up outside of Branson on Table Rock Lake. Been watching as many of these as I can as mine need replaced. Went yesterday to get an estimate, it was 850 bucks. Also, when you did the driver side mounts, did you have to loosen the steering column? Thanks!!

A few days. I had a kit and tools, but I tried so many things to get the fronts off and that took time. When I finally figured out to cut them out, I had to order the hardware/mounts for the front two. That took a few days. I had to try and find out how to deal with the broken, spinning nut, how to remove the back seat, and other research. If I had all that figured out going in, I could have done it in a day. A video like mine would have been great for me.

2008 F-250 SuperCab/Lariat- Mileage 124,450 . I had one Bolt Cage break free at front left underneath Radiator after following all precautions and not using an Impact and only a Breaker Bar. I left that one the way it was and will sick a trained Mechanic on it at some point. I had heard about squeaking on the DayStar replacements and applied White Teflon Grease at all Metal contact points on the OEM Bell that meets the Cab and the bottom piece. Make absolutely NO MISTAKE this job is a PAIN IN THE ASS ! The Bolts are very difficult to remove and replace. Do yourself a huge favor and put a Torch on every Bolt for at least a minute possibly longer before unthreading because you'll probably never unloosen them because of the Blue Lock Tight and for Christ's sake keep a Fire Extinguisher close by . Bolting them back in is a LITTLE easier but still a major pain in the ass ! Count on a minimum of 8 hours of labor if your attempting this project solo I don't care who say's differently. I have any and ALL the tools necessary to do this job except a Lift. The hard work paid off and is a completely different Truck. Even the front Cab Mount that the Nut Cage broke didn't make a sound and rides and handles 100% better. The moral to this story. USE TEFLON GREASE and don't listen to someone's inflated Ego about how fast they did the Job ! Regards ,

Hello Brent, thanks for the video. Quick question, I see you went with a Dorman kit, I was told to get a Daystar kit and now the bushings are much smaller than the oem ones and I'm worried about the cab not being held tightly in place as supposed. Do you have any experience with this?
@brentginastravelingadventures
@brentginastravelingadventures 7 жыл бұрын
I used Dorman only on the front two 'cause I had to cut off the brackets and the Daystar didn't have brackets. The rest are Daystar Kevlar. The bolts hold the mounts tight because you'll be using the old bolts/nuts with a Daystar Kevlar kit. The concern some have is the play in the smaller bushings. IOW, some sliding and possible cab noise. I haven't had that yet, but look at the date of install. Hasn't been very long yet. Hope that answers your questions! If not, let me know.

I own a 2011 Super Duty crew cab and my cab bushings failed at 110,000 miles or about 5 years of use. I was informed by a former Ford parts manager that Ford changed to a neoprene bushing in '07-'08 in an effort to achieve a better ride. Prior year models had rubber bushings which were far superior. The Doorman kit you used for the forward positions appeared to be high quality. Whats your observation on ride quality since the replacement?

Well, I've got a stiff truck with all the extras I've added for a camper, but like I said in the description, I would use rubber mounts if I had to do it again simply because my truck beats the crap out of me when not loaded. I think rubber would soften it some...so Dorman.

Which ones? All of them? I had that issue with the front ones. Nothing I did worked so I cut them off. I suspect you saw that part though. I can't remember well enough on the back ones so I'm going to ask: Do you think you can cut them loose? Brother, I know how you feel. It sucks!

Hey Brent, I'm looking to replace the mounts on my truck and have seen some reviews on the poly bushings stating that they squeak and transmit road noise into the cab. Do you find this to be true with the one you installed?
@brentginastravelingadventures
@brentginastravelingadventures 7 жыл бұрын
Not yet, but I've only had them on about a month. The front radiator mounts on mine are Dorman and installed for the reasons in the video I'm not sure what they're made of, but they're pliable like rubber and I'll bet they are indeed rubber. The other 6 locations are Kevlar vs. poly and I've read similar complaints on the Kevlar too. Best of luck on your install. There's not much options available on these mounts.

No squeaking, but I surely believe that make the ride harsher. To be fair, my suspension is still all around.

Did you have to loosen all the bolts on the passenger side of the truck before jacking up the driver side cab or did you leave the passenger side bolts tight?

I wish I could remember the details. This was 4 years ago. I'd tried to put every little thing in the video so maybe that answer is in there?? If not, my best thoughts are to not fully tighten until all are in place.

Hey Brent, I'm getting ready to replace the body mounts and have really appreciated you video on the replacement. I had three questions after watching your video. I have an 2009 f250 LWB super cab. Would this model take the same bushing kit that you ordered online? and second question: when removing / loosening the bolts from the underside did you attempt to put a back up wrench on the nut on the top side or just start loosening? would heating it up before you start loosening help keep the nut on top from spinning?
@brentginastravelingadventures
@brentginastravelingadventures 5 жыл бұрын
Hey John, I'm not sure if it'd take the exact same kit. Seems I remember reading that the Super had the 3rd mount that was a little smaller, but I"m not dead sure. You can go onto Amazon and click on "Accounts and Lists" and in that drop-down is a link to "Your Garage". From there, you can input your truck, and after that, anything you click that relates to vehicles will tell you at the top if it fits your truck. Pretty cool as I use Amazon almost every day. The nuts inside the cab are cage nuts as shown in the video. You technically don't have to put a wrench on them, but as you see in the video, one was spinning and I had to do just that. On the front mounts, nothing worked but cutting them off and I tried heating them. So, to answer your question I don't know how much heating works 'cause it didn't for me. They were just to seized up. I wish you the best! It's not a fun job. Be careful with flame under a truck. I lost a high school buddy that way.

@brentginastravelingadventures 5 жыл бұрын
If I didn't put it in the video, it's just not available. What I did was use Amazon. It asks for me to put in my vehicle make and lets you know if that particular part will fit your vehicle. If you do that, you might be able to get the details on the size you're looking for and not have to buy it from Amazon.

Sorry to hear Ryan. See if you can find local mechanics that'll do it cheaper. Should be a matter of making simple calls. One thing I've always found is that they'll often give you a price, like $500 (example), and then when you go to pay the $750 bill, they'll say, "We found this or that while doing it and we didn't see that coming." Almost every single time I get that sort of crap.
