@VUO4E2 жыл бұрын
@@Toscanto Yeah, obviously - you can see him gliding his control in the fork. But that's not what I meant. I believe the total amount of force on the central pole, with that plane at that speed, must be enormous. You can see it bending in the video.

@jasonmagill9137 Жыл бұрын
Yes, he did...the handle he's holding is used to control the up and down elevator of the model, one line for up, one for down....after it's timed for 10 laps, a quick application of down elevator triggers a fuel shutoff device inside the model,stopping the motor...in the olden days the pilot would sometimes just fly the whole tank out, but that's really hard to do now the models are flying at 300 kph plus!

Why did the engine sound change suddenly? Did the engine come on the pipe? Or was there a throttle control and he waited a couple of laps until he had it trimmed out ?
@geebee3d2 жыл бұрын
I believe that the engine is warmed up in the first few laps, and then the pilot starts to muscle the plane around the circle. This brings it up to full pitch speed by temporarily unloading the prop.
@sblack482 жыл бұрын
@@geebee3d ah ok that makes sense.

Heavy counterweight on the opposite prop wing side
@smacksman16 жыл бұрын
At 47,000 rpm two prop halves would run in dirty air. Half a prop runs in less dirty air = more thrust. This is a very 'high cutting edge' sport.
@oldgeorge19395 жыл бұрын
At those speeds the wake of one blade interferes with the other. There is a counterbalance weight within the spinner.

@@smacksman1 Also, the prop. would have to be counter-balanced by extra weight on the crankshaft, otherwise it would just explode at those RPM.

Control line planes date way back, circa 1950's-60's. This was before the days of electronic radio control. This was radio control back then. Of course, like most people, "If it can move, it can move faster." And that's how this sport came to be. Not as popular nowadays because of course, we have radio control, but it's still a fun sport to watch, and they are blindingly fast.

Halman, Eisener and Ken-M were the true modelers period possibly the lemon drop kid ! Eastern European teams were just operator's as the complete FAI modeling was payed by the Russian government ! in the early 80's after about 6 contests in 10 years Russia came from nowhere with rule book correct FAI speed entrants also some exposure of rules ! the norm was highly modified ROSSI engines the Commies completely designed and made there superior engines in house ! the Russian's cleaned up ! this year the team had military escorts ! 2 years later the next world championships the military was gone and every team was getting the Russian's pissed nightly and buying everything they had after the contest ! I personally saw many of these east block exotic engines ! History points out one Carl Dodge kept developing his own bar stock R/R engines and 2 years later he beat the Euro-trash !
