"Charging malfunction: battery is not recharging". The Alternator was the problem with my car 2012 bmw 328i. I went ahead and changed the tensioner pulley/belt while I was at it today. Warning lights cleared. Thanks for the video!

I had the same issue, same message on the control screen. A/c started blowing hot air. My problem was that my serpentine belt had ripped / tore and fell off. I Replaced the belt and problem solved. Thankfully it wasn’t the alternator or battery as I initially thought!

Okay, if this thing is 210 amps and in theory, most alternators produce roughly half their rated at idle, is this thing doing 100 at idle? Do you have a meter to check?

I removed 2 bolts but Alt still feels like its on a hinge and can't pull out....? Any ideas??

@@TheLiveOfCharlie I finally figured it out, it’s pretty jammed in so if you pull it forwards towards yourself and give it a pretty good tug it should pop loose and you can slide it out

Got the alternator all unbolted, having a heck of a time trying to yank it out. Any recommendations on how to get it unwedged would be absolutely appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Can use a large flat head to help spread by nearest bolt to the front. Or spray some wd40 or pb blaster in the bolt area to help loosen things up

As you mentioned that there are two versions of the alternator. A 170 Amp, and 210 Amp variant. Just in case I replace the 170 amp with 210 amp, is there any problem to my car? I faced this issue. Thanks for informative video.

I’m not sure. But speculating since the battery needs to be coded when replacing a new battery or changing battery types. I’d assume the computer is expecting to see a specific charge value from the alternator. So I’d just replace it with what came with the car. I think it would be worst to put the lower voltage alternator in a car that had the 210 since it more than likely would be undercharging the battery. I’m curious to know also if anyone has done it yet.

what causes the alternator? is it because of the leak?

The oil filter housing gasket was leaking for a good while before the owner had it changed, so that leak pretty much messed up the alternator.

Bro that coolant level be looking wayyy too high. You sure you have that to max fill level. I’m from uk so my coolant round tub would be filled half way

I believe it was since I didn’t have any coolant warnings or anything along those lines. But then again I didn’t focus on it lol

@@rickiesuavo9968 There will be a sticker on the alternator and it will say which one. I don't recall how much but got it here "complexseven.com/product/engine/alternators/bmw-n20-alternator/"
