F350 Crew Cab Dually Rear Lift Block Install! Project Brutus, Ep. 11

THE BULLETPROOF GARAGE!!!

THE BULLETPROOF GARAGE!!!

Күн бұрын

In this episode, I install lift blocks on the rear differential housing to lift our F350 crew cab DRW diesel project truck (Project Brutus) in order to level it out. It was sitting really low in the back because I installed a Dana 60 up front in order to convert it to 4x4. Note - I'm using 6" blocks - most folks agree that 4" blocks are the practical limit because you run into axle wrap with taller blocks. I will likely re-do this lift in the not-too-distant future using aftermarket springs and small or no lift blocks. Thanks for watching, and please LIKE the video and SUBSCRIBE to the channel! Scott

I just bought a 2005 F350 this last spring, already set up with four wheel drive, and had some axle work done to fix problems the last owner didn't fix. This was a very helpful video detailing some of the work I just had done and some that I will be doing this winter to finish up the job. You demonstrate the issues very well and your solutions are well thought out and functional, thanks for a well predicated video showing some of the real pitfalls.

Fantastic work Scott! As always I really enjoy watching your straight forward no nonsense approach to fixing the problem, and it’s really cool to see this truck leveled out the way it is. Kroil and WD40 did poorly on a penetrating test done by Project Farm here on KZbin. Some old school guys swear by it so I was surprised when I saw the results. SeaFoam Deep Creep did the best so I have switched to that for penetration spray.

That's odd to hear, I always heard the (specifically) WD40 brand penetrating oil (not the standard WD40) was some of the best when people did comparison tests. I've had luck with Kroil but I think I prefer PB. I'll have to try the SeaFoam if I can find it.

When I converted my F250 to 4x4, I learned about the factory 4" lift blocks. I rummaged through a scrap bin at the wrecking yard trying to find a 3" block but apparently it didn't exist. Your options are either 2" (F250) or 4" (F350), so I kept the 4" that came with the donor truck. It worked well in my case, because I kept the OEM style front suspension. I'm not the tallest guy, so I was trying to avoid any extra lift. The 4" blocks seem to only come with the Dana 60 equipped front axle trucks that predate the superduty series (unless someone else can correct me).

Man, do I regret selling my minty 1995 Powerstroke Crew Cab dually..... I had even purchased a Dana 60 front axle for it that I'd planned to swap.... but thought the swap was too daunting. You make it look easy! Terrific stuff. Scott, what do / did you do for a living? You're knowledgeable and skilled at this vehicle work, but you've also got great verbal and instructional skills..... You've got an engineer / technical guy vibe, with a dash of accountant / CEO / military. Cheers

Lynden - that '95 PS CC dually must have been nice! I had a 2003 Excursion Limited 4x4 with the 7.3 that I hated to get rid of but we got transferred overseas and I wasn't bringing it to Korea. The solid axle swap isn't complicated but it was fairly involved. Not something I could have done in a weekend. Good guesses about my profession! I've been active duty Army for 27 years and I'm about to retire. I've been tinkering on and off for decades. Thanks for the questions and comments! Scott

Headed up towards 1000 subscribers! Way to go! Quick question out of curiosity. I can't quite tell from the shot, but how did the gap between the back of the cab and the front of the bed come out after the lift? Was there any sag?
@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE

Hi Michael - I honestly didn't check out the gap. It wasn't great before the lift, but I attributed it to body mount bushings. I'll have to check this out later this week. thanks for the comments and question! Scott

Hopefully this winter I’ll be swapping my 1997 F350 over to 4x4. When do I’m going with Sky’s 08+ rear leaf spring setup and the newer axle in hopes to eliminate any lift block or only use a 2” block if needed. Have you considered that swap, instead of that big a lift block that could give you some axle wrap?
@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE
@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Gillian's Garage - I won't swap to a later model rear differential because then I wouldn't have matching bolt patterns for the wheels. It would have made a lot of sense if I had swapped to a Super Duty front diff instead of a 1990 F350 king pin Dana 60. Thanks for your comment and question! Scott
