I've wanted to build one of these for a long time and definitely will in the future. I wouldn't do a a cab chassis but I'm going for the same idea. I had a 7.3 extended cab that I did a 6.0 front end conversion on and a mild build. I want it to have the same paint scheme but get a lot crazier with the motor and other bits. Starting with a 6.0 this time around. Appreciate the video showing your process

Appreciate you watching I would recommend a regular chassis for sure. I have done both and the regular is easier in ever way. Just cut the 16 inches out of the frame and everything else lines up. Just have to reflair the brake lines curl the fuel lines and get the drive shaft cut down.

@@choppedinc. Right on. The truck looks great and I'm sure it's a lot of fun to drive. I would like to have 4x4 when I do mine but I'll have to do some research to figure out if there's enough room after the chop. I'm in the Detroit area so there's a lot of Shelby's, zr1's, hellcats, etc. I want them to be confused at the very least. Maybe I'll make a video series when the time comes to build it. If I do I'll definitely be mentioning your name when I bring up the learning process

@Nick Stefanou I enjoy driving it. It's been a lot of fun and gets awesome mpg. 4x4 works in a short bed just can't lift them to much. Drive line angel gets to steep.

For sure. I think alot of people don't know that it's even a custom job. I love slamming the gears in the stick shift but definitely not as fast as the last automatic I built but still average 25mpg highway. It's definitely fun just to rip to the shops rather than taking my 4x4 long bed. Thanks for watching

Nice man I'd take a shorty like that any day, got a 7.3 crew cab so this would be a nice daily driver lol

Thank you. It's been a fun truck and gets between 20-25mpg and will still average 18 mpg towing 20ft trailer and a light load. Still hurts at the pump with the price of diesel right now.

@choppedinc.
@choppedinc. 3 жыл бұрын
It's fairly level till you add 40 gallons of diesel behind the axel. Bags would help for sure especially with towing, the tank sits uncomfortable low to the ground when towing. I agree the head lights really changed it from work truck to cool shop truck

Definitely not the easiest to find by far the single cab diesel was the least made and hardest to find. Not sure where your at but I find more down south. I have had 6 and have a 6.7 single cab now.

If it's a cab chassis it's a lot of work, if it's just a regular long be truck all you have to do is take 16 inches out of the frame behind the cab. The bed will then bolt in like normal, just have to shorten the brake lines and get the drive shqft cut to size and get a short bed tank.

Hey man did you use the stock spring leaf setup and just filled em?
@choppedinc.
@choppedinc. 6 ай бұрын
Because it was a cab chassis I moved the factory spring hangers forward. Plug welded the rivet hole and welded all the way around. Zero problems from doing it like that

I used f250 leaf springs not the 350 ones

So did you have to fab your own mounts and did you swap the axles to fit the srw
@choppedinc.
@choppedinc. 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I welded on some 90 on the frame to catch the original bed holes and used the original bed bolts. I used the single rear axel, I had to cut the the old hangers of and move them in for the cab chassis. I also used the f250 springs but you could just take some leafs out of the pack to get the same results. Other wise it will ride like a chuck wagon

How exactly did you get all your measurements as to where you mount the brackets for your leaf springs I currently have a cab chassis 6.0 I want to convert to short bed
@choppedinc.
@choppedinc. 2 жыл бұрын
I had the luxury of having a few parts trucks laying around. I can't remember of the top of my head what the lengths are. You Could go to a junk yard and take some measurements or a buddy or coworker. Are you moving the leaf springs forward or cutting the middle out of the frame?
@mattevans3819
@mattevans3819 2 жыл бұрын
I was gonna do it exactly how you did it if I take it out of the middle of the frame do you know the measurements?
@choppedinc.
@choppedinc. 2 жыл бұрын
Just have to double check the wheel base but a standard single cab regular long bed you need to take 16 inches if I recall. There is a few write ups online. If your keeping the 40 gallon tank on the cab chassis you will have to slide it up closer to the diff. Other wise your frame will hang out and want be able to open the tailgate.

hi why did you stop making video's? today is aug 20 2022 i have a dumb question, i am about to buy my first Diesel, 2001 f350 short bed (what would you recommend to check on it before buy it) my question is this, is it possible to extend a short bed to a long bed?
@choppedinc.
@choppedinc. 2 жыл бұрын
My biggest thing to check is blow by and oil leaks. On some of the 7.3s they have been getting a few cracked blocks, I would look out for that. For you first diesel 7.3 is a good choice there quite reliable if there taken care of. My video situation is difficult life has happened, surgery moving to a different part of the country and having little room but I do have one in the pipe that will be done soon. A cummins shorty. You can make it a short to long but much more work to add length than take it away. Thanks for watching.

@@choppedinc. cool thanks for answering, i don't know if this f350 is going to work out, this person is not answering me back, but i was just wondering before making it final, so cracked blocks on the fords, if this one doesn't work out, then do you have other recommendations? i had a v6 astro van for past 6 years and it is super reliable, but i need something i can two with, so looking for a diesel, but don't much about them.
@dannywatson
@dannywatson 2 жыл бұрын
@@ozb2006 depends on the weight your towing, diesel is nice but there more expensive to buy and keep going, if your towing 7000pounds or less I would consider a gas truck. I think the 99-07 Silverado in a extended cab is the the best bang for buck 5.3 or 6.0 motor.
