F4 Brushed to Brushless Conversion

I like how RaceFlight flies, and I needed a small F4 board for my nano-brushless build. In this video I modify the $15 Eachine F4 Brushed board from Banggood and modify it for use as a nano-brushless FC. The video cut off about a minute short (ran out of storage on phone). What you didn't see was me cutting off the excess wire after bridging the first one and then doing the same for the other 3 pads.
Yes, I have a horrible tremor especially after the morning's coffee. If I can hand solder 402 and smaller SMD components, you can too. I'm using a Yihua $70 hot air/soldering iron station. Nothing fancy.

Just did this to the Eachine Naze acro brushed fc. Never would have known. But some guy on banggood answered a question on a listing for 0703 motors. 100% epic did something similar, but nowhere near as simple. Thanks a bunch. I may be wrong. But it seams you're a little camera shy. I really think even a quick walk through, even if you don't physically do the work, to add to or redo this vid could help the entire community as whole. This is amazing. I don't do forums or the other internet social stuff. So I don't know how common knowledge it is. But I've googled, researching 1s brushless fcs. And came up empty, or extremely overpriced components. This could go a long way to fuel the micro brushless craze. Thanks again. Great stuff.

thanks for this, brought new life to that usless brushed fc i had lying around, made the smalest stack i have ever made :) just stuck it on a 4in1 esc with some foam tape works like a charm

Kale Lopez i also dont own a heat gun so i did it the not so charming way with a soldering iron and a big blob of solder, just heat the fet and it will slide of quite easaly, its not the most elegant way of doing is but it works. Just let the board cool down a bit in between fets so you dont over heat the board

Sorry for commenting after so many years the video was uploaded. Last night I observed one of my motors were not spinning so, I flipped the fc over and saw one of my Fet have gone bust. I have F3 Evo v2 board with 6 motors. Now my question is whether I should remove the fets for the remaining motors and convert my board into a brushless fc or should I try to remove one of the other motors preferable motor 5 or 6 fet and place it on motor 4. To add the fet for motor 4 have gone bust. If I can get the mosfet from shop then which mosfet should I look for. Sorry for this tiring comment. Thanks a ton, I almost was on the verge of throwing away my fc board. On the side note, I already fly one more brushless, running on f3 deluxe version.

moving a fet is probably the most practical thing to do. I can't remember the specs for them... and finding good ones (ones that actually live up to the specs) is harder than it should be. Also there is time vs $ to consider. Modern FCs are generally much easier to live with too.

@@MarkDenovich thanks for commenting. I simply removed the fet from motor 4 and soldered my motors to motor 5. Then it was simple to reroute motor 4 signals to motor 5. My quad is flying again. Thanks again.

Awesome video! I just have one question regarding the pull down resistor on the gate. Did you also bridge across that pull down resistor's pads when bridging the gate to drain? Wouldn't that just ground the signal?

Works for me... the ESC signal is getting straight to the ESCs. No other modifications required.

Mark a year ago you replied passthrough was not working because you found a capacitor nearest each motor pad needed to also be removed. Was this in reference to the Eachine F4 or the Realacc F3 board. A pic would help. Thank you!

Yes. This board is actually a 1S or 2S brushed design.

Reverse engineering. A brushed board is just a brushless board, plus some mosfets.

No, you need to be able to configure the firmware to send a different signal to the escs. You would be better served with a real Brushless FC.
