I've got a few scratches from wearing glasses before i got a set of VR Optician Prescription Lenses. But you can't actually see any scratches when playing games. Unfortunately, i used Distilled water a handful of times to clean the lenses, and now there's a permanant milky blotch in the middle of the screen. It's noticeable big time for darker games, anything with dark environments. ONLY use the micro fiber cloth, or your breath to get it moist as possible to clean them the best you can. Now i'll need to buy a replacement headset.

I have one of those rubber squeezy air things. and I've found that works really well at getting rid of fogging as well. just lift the headset enough to get the nozzle in (you might not even need to touch the headset) and give a few quick puffs of air towards the lenses and the fog will go .

Legend! I’m currently half way through doing an “extreme IPD mod” on my Pimax 8KX and I have some smudges on the back sides of the lenses, and although many sites I had read say not to use alcohol or any cleaning wipes, I came across some Weiss lens wipes that said they were safe to use on all glass AND plastic lens types, so I just got home from picking them up from Woolworths. But then got scared again after reading a couple more sites saying not to use alcohol lol. But after a few more mins of research, I notice Vive themselves say on their lens cleaning instructions that you can use alcohol wipes, which made me think, ok maybe they are ok. Then the next thing I saw was your KZbin video and you mention the exact same wipes I just picked up, therefore, clarifying any worries I had of them damaging the lens. Good shit! DON'T USE COMPRESSED AIR ON THE INDEX. Sorry for the capital letters but please ... fellow VR users ... do not use compressed air on the Index. It is a know problem that the lens compartments on the Index aren't completely airtight. If you use air on the device ... even if you blow too much on it you will blow dust into the lens compartment onto the screen. It happened to me and it happened to others ... watch the steam forums. It might be you will not be affected but after my experience I would not dare again. I don't know about other headsets. The method i used gave me totally clear lenses. here's how. first take a hammer and chisel and remove any dust particles, for larger particles an angle grinder or jack hammer works well, remember to shake any dust off, throwing the headset against the wall works well, keep launching against the wall until all particles are gone, remove smudges with sulfuric acid ( wear gloves and add more gloves as the top layer of gloves melts away) stop for a cup of tea, you deserve it, you have worked really hard, we are almost halfway there, well done. Remove particles on the outside of the headset by placing large jagged stones in your washing machine, add the headset and put on the fastest spin possible, two or three hours should do the trick. If when you open the washing machine everything has been ground down to a paste, don't worry, this is perfectly normal. now head to the store and buy a new psvr. job done. thank me later.

If you use alcohol you remove the fat film your eyes produced on the lens surface instead of just thinning and flatening it with the microfiber cloth. This probably makes your lenses more prone to fogging up, since that fat film is water repellent and therefore prohibits condensation to a certain degree. Therefore you should only use alcohol if you really can't get the smear away otherwise. It takes time for your skin and eyes to fatten up the lenses again.
@silveridgevr4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by 'fat film'? Are you saying not to use Isopropyl on the lenses?

@F4CEpa1m4 жыл бұрын
The alcohol wipes are only for when you have scuffs that a good microfibre cloth just can't remove. In that case you'll have to use something, and the alcohol wipes will work. After 5 years of using them a handful of times each year to remove the worst smudges I have zero noticeable lens degradation
@gordon79363 жыл бұрын
They are not recommended but they should work, i asked once optician if its ok for glasses, he didnt reccomend as these paper wipers can make micro scratches. I use it anyway on my glasses lenses as youre gonna buy new after a few years, after this time lenses degradation is very visible if you look on them from side, but very unnoticeable when using them personally. Still worth, as theyre super effective in comparison to microfiber that wont actually help with really dirty lenses. I assume its similar with vr lenses.

Never use pressured air cans or even worse, stronger things. There have been many reports of dust particles being moved inside (through the joints or so) and being then impossible to remove. Especially if you do it sideways. The pear blower is the best solution for this. And it is definitely not recommended to use Camera lenses or glasses wipes on VR lenses. They are made of plastic not glass.
@F4CEpa1m4 жыл бұрын
Those lens wipes have done zero damage to anyone's lenses. They are plastic not glass but if you only use them when necessary there is zero risk of damage. 4 years in, not a sign. And anyone jamming dust inside their lenses with pressurised air cans are blasting way too hard and too close, there is no way they are being sensible about their clean or taking care of their headsets anyway. I’m gonna test this to see if the fog goes away.
@F4CEpa1m4 жыл бұрын
Science bruh. Fog a.k.a condensation is caused by a lower temperature on the lens than on your face. Warm the lenses slightly (very very slightly) and boom. No fog

Can i clean my lenses without air and just a cloth?
@F4CEpa1m3 жыл бұрын
You can yeah. It's recommended to use air first though as it gets rid of dust particles on the lenses first so you don't swirl them around with the cloth. 50% of the time I just use a cloth and it's totally fine

If u use a small amount of dish soup to stop fogging I use it to prevent fogging on my goggles when riding my dirtbike

Be careful on the air, it kicked dirt under the lenses of my Valve Index😥
@blusuntzu4 жыл бұрын
Like little hair and dust particles. It's horrible. Waiting on Valve to see of it can be fixed.

thanks for the note, let us know how valve responds!

@@amouxaden They have put in an RMA, I did not mention how the problem occurred, just that it happened. They did the initial Auto-message of restart your PC and replug everything. After that, I was messaged by a non-bot that within 2 messages put in the RMA, and I mailed it last week, 12/15/20. I will update with the time frame of sending in an RMA during the holidays later on🤣😂 Happy gaming everyone!

I will have a new headset on 1/03/21
@phantomwolf76873 жыл бұрын
Is sitting the headset on the floor fine?
@F4CEpa1m3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't recommend it. The floor is an excellent opportunity for dust to settle on the lenses and increase the risk of abrasive scratches when you wipe them with a cloth

Can I use regular napkins
@F4CEpa1m3 жыл бұрын
Nope. I mean, I wouldn't recommend them, no. The fibres in the napkins are far more likely to scratch your lenses

If your nose is blowing warm air onto your lenses causing them to fog then you have your headset on wrong.
