Same. We rented it from the video store and even as a child I thought the end of the match was stupid.

Considering company wasn't doing great at the time, there was NOTHING to lose in a Luger title win. If he draws, great! If not, always had Bret.
@bigjohnsbreakfastlog5819

I think Vince's hesitations were how Luger was an insular person when he wanted his champion to be an outspoken or bombastic kind of guy, as well as thinking that delaying the title win would satiate the crowd. But the crowd believed in Lex, and by making him look stupid, you lost the moment. He wasn't ever getting this chance back.

Funny thing, just 1.5 years later, Vince DID immediately pull the trigger with Diesel. Luger was probably thinking "WHY NOT ME?" hahah

I loved "All American" Lex Luger as a kid. I can remember being pissed off when that match ended in a countout. Even at 12 years old, I thought it was odd that Luger celebrated like that. wwf dropped the ball on that one.

“Plans change” goes aaaallll the way back to 1993. I understand people want to act grateful and praise Vince for what he’s done to progress the business, but he should absolutely be equally criticized for the *regress* of the business. This being one of the prime examples. Poor Lex. I know he still ended up being one of the biggest stars of the 90s, but to go from having the rug pulled out from under you in NWA/WCW to getting the same treatment in WWF, I wouldn’t blame him if he felt screwed over by the business.

Dunno why they never gave lex the title. If it didn't work make him drop the title at the royal rumble to yoko again then yoko would drop the belt to bret at WM
@Zaidkhandxb
@Zaidkhandxb 2 жыл бұрын
The DQ was fine if they had plans for mania, but take out the celebration because that peaked it for luger. Because if he wins at mania, people have already seen the celebration at summerslam which killed it. They should have had Ludvig Borga come out and get Yokozuna DQ’d so he keeps the title. That way keeps the yoko/lex story on hold until the royal rumble/mania. If ludvig done that, he would have received so much heat which would have given the rivalry with Lex some good matches

i wish bryan and vinny would of remembered the same situation that jim duggan vs rick rude, a few years back, when rude was the inter champion and jim won by count out but not the belt, but the crowd were cheering crazy like jim won the belt this is the same situation that happen in this match, and if i was part of this show, i would of talked about that moment more than this, because i'm sure Vince McMahan didn't do this by accident, the finish of the match had to happen on purpose

I think if Lex won here, then dropped it back to Yoko at the Rumble & then just have Bret win the Rumble, that might've been alright. Idk what Lex would've done at Mania though.

There were so many things wrong with Luger's run here even before that disastrous match. 1. He was a heel the day before he slammed Yoko. Wouldn't it have made more sense to have Crush do it because he too had a good look and was already fairly over as a babyface? I hate random, unexplained turns because they're so confusing and makes it hard for me to have any reason to care about the character. 2. The whole Lex Express thing was so cringe, even for 90's standards, and Luger never looked comfortable doing it. Plus, that's such a great way to get a main event babyface over: have him ride in a freaking bus instead, y'know, WRESTLING AND BEATING HEELS. 3. Luger just did not have what it took to be "the guy". He a million dollar look, is passable in the ring but good God almight was he a black hole in terms of charisma.

The finish was bad, but I liked that Yokozuna kept the belt. Lex was so boring, his bionic elbow was lame and his bus trip sucked.

I was never a fan of Lex and I personally dont think he had "it", to me he was dull ,bland/boring, but still to this day after all that hype I dont understand why they didn't have Lex win the belt, it seemed like a foregone conclusion. I mean its not like Yokozuna was setting things alight as champion and they could have always took the belt off Lex on the HIGHLY UNLIKELY chance that business got worse with Lex as champion. And to make matters worse that dumb ending just made lex look like a clueless goof,if not for all that they could have had something with Lex, probably not the next Hulk Hogan they were looking for but he could have at least been something for the company. After this I totally lost what little interest I had in lex altogether, I've never been one to cheer somebody who is booked to look like a goof even as a kid. I think maybe Luger should have been the one to turn heel instead of Tatanka at SummerSlam 94, maybe that could have injected some life into him.

I just watched through 1989 NWA...if you ever have doubts about Lex Luger, watch him then. Flair, Steamboat, Sting, Funk, Muta and Luger were just on fire for everything. Luger was having four star matches with total scrubs.
