I always admired anything Frank Matich had to do in the racing industry be it F5000 or the brilliant SR4. Fond memories, great Aussie.

Very informative, and the Philip Island race proved how quick and competitive these new cars are. Let's have the Gold Star back as our premier racing aspiration.

S5000 as an Australian version of Indy Cars. It would be great to see these beasts on the Calder Park Thunderdome (an oval track). But sadly with the state that Calder is in I doubt that will ever happen. Have to admit, with motorsport slowly starting up again, here in Australia its the S5000's I'm most looking forward to seeing.

Tell you one thing, if Vinfast end up selling Holdens old testing grounds Lang Lang. I for one would love to see it fall in to the hands of someone that would turn Lang Lang into a motoracing hub, just like Peregrine Corporation did with Mitsubishi old testing ground that now goes by the name of The Bend Motorsport Park. I am only saying because what make Lang Lang special is that it has a 4.7 kilometers 4 lane circular track. For me that would be great if that get used. Not only for S5000, but also having a 500km Enduro for the Supercars, but also get use for a NASCAR, and a Indy round.

OK, for some reason the theme to Grand Prix (1966) is in my head right now!😁

Both amazing machines.

I love the idea of the series but they need to lose the mufflers and possibly create an F5000 type snorkel intake. Allowing the engine rev higher for more power might also help.

@@dylanzrim3635 Not sure how they could fit that. I’d have preferred a flat plane crank but that was pretty unrealistic.

McCrea car was the outright lap record holder for Mondello Park, Ireland, for many years.

Real 5000s had a range of engines, and transmissions as well as chassis. The comparison would be fairer on a T332 with the modern car. Though the McRae was a very succesfull car. The T332 does have fibreglass/ composite panels. Some old 5000s were modified for rocker suspension, the MR9 had it. As for tyres,, they are available in radial these days but historic racing does not allow them. The modern car is better,,, but not 40 years better!

The S5000 looked so much sexier and faster sitting still before Supercars got involved and ruined it. It the look of the older car with older style body work including the tall intake snorkel. Watched them run at Sandown, and they were ok , BUT nothing compared to the older cars.

Agree, from memory the original prototype borrowed a lot from Lola T332 in styling.

Cross ply to radials was a bigger step than the introduction of wings, to witt, Ferrari's dismal '78 season. Would like to have seen you stay with Hoosier cross plys as sprint cars have: the only cars to have avoided the terrible lined up attitude enforced by radial tires.

Such a shame you do not use the bespoke retro chassis which was first presented!

"won't cost an arm and a leg"... imagine letting them run V8 Supercar engines... it's like they want the series to fail.. JUST DO WHAT EVERYONE WANTS.

One thing I never got is why're they so... Heavy? Now I know 900kg isn't heavy in the grand scheme of things but the car is 150kg heavier than the full car of the chassis you have
@thethirdman2253 жыл бұрын
Closer to 850, which is still 200 kg more than an F5000 with only about 40-60 extra horsepower.
