I could not find a f53 adjustment on KZbin for my RV. Tools needed are screwdriver and a 3/4 wrench. To much play in gearbox. RV only had 31,000 miles

Hey there! I'm glad to see you found something to help your driving challenges. If you still have tail-wag issues, you should look into getting a TRACBAR for the rear. Safe and Happy travels!

Just a little update on the rv. I did go and get an alignment last week, and wow. It drives like a car now. I’m thinking I should have done the alignment first. Just wanted to update everyone.

I have done this on a couple trucks in the past, If you have a little play it is safe to adjust a VERY little bit.... Like you did only 1/8 turn... You can easily go too far and damage your steering gear. But just to cheat a little and tighten the tolerance up a little to compensate from a little wear is fine. If you have a very sloppy gear box don't bother it will do nothing but cause more issues.... I had a really loose one with lots of miles and had nothing to lose so I tried this and it just wouldn't take slack out and actually created more resistance to turn, I ended up replacing the box anyways.

Thanks for the info. I have NEW SHOCKS, Tires, SUMO SPRINGS and SAFE-T-Pro and the drive is terrible with the slack on the wheel😞 I would enjoy driving more if this will work🙏🙏🙏 Thanks for the simple video🙏

Did you ever solve your steering issues?

Before following random instructions which may not be right for your vehicle, or may not even be right for any vehicle, I suggest taking a good look at the hardware, identifying the manufacturer (which will not be Ford) and model (which may depend on chassis GVWR or front axle GAWR), and looking for authoritative information from the manufacturer. For instance, at least some years of Ford F53 chassis use a TRW steering gear, according to Ford specifications. TRW publishes the entire "TAS Steering Gear Service Manual" on their website. This looks like it might be a TRW gear, and the adjustment might be appropriate. Good work getting rid of the free play in the steering, regardless.

Thank you actually I have the same issue, slack and steering play....got an Rv with Ford motor and chassis. I live in San Antonio and I guess not too many mechanics work on RV'S...I'll try to find it my self and adjust this screw a little. Thank you

I have the same problem. I don't see any play in the steering linkages. I followed you video advice, but didn't seem to make amy more than your 1/8 turn. Will let you know if it helps.

Hi, I tried taking out the slack in my steering. I have this adjustment done just right. Any tighter, and the gear segment binds, so I backed it off until it wasn't binding anymore. But, there is still some slop in the steering. I believe the hydraulic valve that assists in steering is sticking. Is it normal for the steering to have that little bit of slop? I'm talking about 1/2" before it pushes the gearbox. I wonder if there's a seal repair kit for these boxes? or do I need to change the whole box?
@vikenwellman78882 жыл бұрын
Yes I think with this big rig there is going to be some slop.

What about the whole front end being checked first before adjusting steering gear? No slop in any components?
@vikenwellman78882 жыл бұрын
Yup I had it all looked at. Everything was strong. I sold it to a person a few miles away, and they are very happy with the rv. Still running great. They are using more than I did.

Just wish I could actually see whatever it is you're adjusting? Appreciate the attempt to share, but it'd be much more useful with a still camera hold and adding something to mark what your turning (play with editing your video with manually adding an arrow & freeze frame). Feel like I'd be an hour under that mess of an F53 setup trying to locate whatever you're trying to show. And I'd really like to firm mine up a bit if I could!

Sorry. I wish I could have done better. Good luck.

This vid will show you what he adjusted. In this vid, the adjusting screw is parallel with the ground.....nice. Inkzbin.info/www/bejne/q6WTi3t8hpynqqs In vikenwellman's video the adjusting screw it vertical ! .... ugly, but he made it work with the screwdriver blade "sideways". Good on him....where ther's a will there is (often) a way. Old post, hope this helps someone.
