Yep maintenance can be expensive. I do all mine myself. Which saves a lot of money.

No doubt I could probably do some of this myself but I feel I bit uneasy based on my own experience as a mechanic 😅
@christmastreefire709Ай бұрын
The vast majority of this is super easy maintenance that can be done at home. I recently bought an F700GS (same engine) and with basic tools and working in my driveway, I did an oil change, coolant change, brake fluid change and fork oil change all with the help of KZbin videos and for maybe a grand total of $200. Also replacing the front brake pads is super easy and costs maybe $50 more if those are needed.

Thanks Chris. Yeah i suppose its more the confidence to actually do it. Weather is crap in Ireland most of the time too.

On my '17 F800GS the display occasionally doesn't display the selected gear. Typically only when I'm trying to find neutral, I'm guessing this is a software glitch of some sort. Much of the maintenance you've mentioned can be done easily yourself. Brakes, oil change, all the basic maintenance items are really quite easy on this bike. If you're uncomfortable with it, there are many KZbin videos walking you through the processes. It feels good saving that money, but feels even better getting to know the mechanical side of your bike.

this actually happens when i am on the bike and in motion. i suspect its some kind of electrical issue. Yeah I have thought about that but i have no garage and covered space to actually do the work. I will have to see how this goes. will probably get a few bits done next year.

Crazy prices from BMW,DID high quality chain and sprocket kit for your bike 167 euros 1 to 1.5 hrs to fit,local motorcycle dealer Moran's supplied and fitted chain and sprocket kit and 17 inch Pirelli tyre total 245 euros, labour cost was 56 euro.Aftermarket EBC brakes far less expensive than BMW and use local dealer would be my tip

Thanks Paul. Tell me about it. The brakes alone are outrageous! I've already asked Morans about doing a few bits for me. Tadhg had said he can do a service change but would prefer to let it go to a specialist for the rest. Understandable as he doesn't know BMWs. I find it ridiculous that there are so few bmw dealers in Ireland to begin with. It would help if there was at least another two at least it would keep prices down. Limiting dealers only causes them to charge what they like and leave the customer with no other option. Even the amount of specialists is limited. Unreal

Ask some other riders who services their bkes BMW garages are notorious for religiously over charging .Alan Northern Ireland 👍

@@alanwilkinson5152 cheers Alan. Some of the bits seem reasonable but the brakes... 😅 But excessive. Need to see what brake options there are. Thanks

You don't actually mention how many miles your bike has done. Have you ridden on salted roads? As mentioned, servicing your own bike can save a lot of money as well as using non OEM parts for chain, sprockets, brake pads etc. Like I wouldn't be buying Brembo parts from BMW, plenty of cross reference charts available online to find compatible parts at a saving to you, providing you have the ability to work on your own bike.

Hi there, about 27k miles. i did say i dont really ride in winter due to the salt on the roads and i tend to limit winter riding. Not sure if you are in the Ireland but motorcycle after sales here is very limited, especially in the west. well for €1280 its a bit of a serious pill to swallow. who would yo normally use?
@lionelcook85222 ай бұрын
@@EireRider.motorcycle.adventure Mate I'm in Australia, buy most of my parts online and do all my own servicing. I wash and polish my bikes after every big ride. Something like pledge on a rag on everything including bolts gives them corrosion protection.

@@lionelcook8522 that's handy to know. I do my best to keep the F800GSA clean. I'll try that next truck with the pledge. Cheers Lionel. Consider subscribing if you haven't already. I've got a few other F800GS adventure vids available if you want to check them out.
