Internal space for long range air to air missiles is needed to keep the planes stealthy. In addition longer range for the airplanes is also needed in order to have a long range standoff distance for the carriers.

I know it’s stupid but I always wondered with the range component if it couldn’t be solved by a Star Wars hyperspace ring type solution. Attach a drop tank style jet booster to get you halfway, drop it and go the rest on your own power. Feels like a version of that could work

Looks like it going to be up to the present Midshipmen. I think the A12 got very far into the detail design phase. They would need to understand Active Flow with DARPA x65 and completed R&D for F/A fix vortex generators (dynamic vortex generation) and to incorporate it. Nothing wrong repackage existing work...use citations.

Hmmm... the Navy moves ahead with its NGAD fighter but it appears that the Air Force has "paused" the development of their NGD fighter. However the Air Force has vastly upgraded the F-15 into the F-15 Eagle and is now upgrading many F-22 Raptors with better radar, networ comms, 360 deg. cameras and helmet visor information projection/control ability. Thus the Air Force will not ve entirely without cutting edge fighters. Hopefully the new thinner, lighter (more durable?) stealth coating can be applied to the older, high maintenance and perhaps less effective coating on the F-22. ->>> TheNavy already has a drone tanker which could be made stealthier so it can accompany fighters closer to target areas to give them more range - and be "attributable" if absolutely necessary.

What do you think the F-35 JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER program was? Its good in theory, but the needs are different enough to not be efficient. That being said, there should be a initiate to share components from a logistics standpoint.

Right now we have the F-35, a new generation fighter which is small, low performance, short range, low altitude.... And the F-22, not quite as up to date but a deterrent and a war-winner. But the latter is only available in small numbers. Obama's cancellation of the F-22 Raptor left open, deliberately, the possibility of a third World War.
