Burlington International (BTV) is a medium sized multi-use airport, located just east of the city of Burlington, Vermont. It serves the air carrier, general and corporate aviation communities as well as being home to the Green Mountain Boys of the Vermont Air National Guard. The traffic mix of light general aviation to air carrier to tactical fighter aircraft makes BTV a complex environment for pilots and controllers.
1:09 - The airport configuration, VOR and Class Charlie airspace
1:58 - Hot Spot 1 is at a large expanse of pavement that can be confusing to the itinerant pilot, and presents and opportunity for wrong surface departures
2:33 - Hot Spot 2 primarily concerns aircraft exiting the non-movement area and crossing the hold-short line for runway 1-19
3:10 - Hot Spot 3 is found at the intersection of runway 1-19 and taxiway Bravo
3:47 -Additional caution needed at Hot Spots 2 & 3 as the associated taxiways provide direct access from ramp areas to the runway. This configuration has been identified as contributing to pilot failure to hold-short at the proper location.
4:15 -The mix of traffic at BTV sometimes necessitate that the tower delay smaller, slower GA aircraft
The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses cockpit-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Learn more at www.faa.gov/FromTheFlightDeck
