About 5 years ago I started with a Jin Hao X-450; then a Lamy Safari; A Kaweco Sport; A Noodler's Ahab; a TWSBI Eco; and have now progressed to the FC Loom..And I have to say...this is easily the smoothest writing experience I've ever had hands down. So much so that I can't ever see myself buying another FP without the Faber Castell name on it.

Every time I visit a new city I buy a pen to remember it. I remember your review of this pen so I bought in a nice store at Sofia, Bulgaria a white Loom. Beside the memories, is a very smooth and nice pen with a M nib. Be well and thank you for all your reviews.

Great video guys, especially putting it alongside comparable pens - v helpful. The angles and cutaways are loads better than in the Basic video - really purposeful and well edited... As Brian says - write on

Pretty awesome pen, i've been using it for two years and it writes everytime, even when i leave it inked for a month without using it. The cap is very stiff to this day, but less so than when i got it. The best way to uncap it is to hold the body with the hand and shove the thumb of that same hand on the tip of the clip, and just extend the thumb.

Have two of these pens (orange and purple). LOVE THEM! Nibs are like butter - super smooth. I bought the cartridge converter and happy that I did. One suggestion, ink the cartridge converter separate from the nib/section. The ribs attract ink and sometimes can be a pain to remove. But if you don't mind inky fingers, forget my suggestion.
@Gouletpens10 жыл бұрын
Michael DeSimone Yeah, the Loom and Basic both grab the ink pretty good inking straight from the bottle, so I'm finding. Not a bad idea to ink the converter directly into the bottle. Glad you're loving them Michael! -Brian Goulet

Just bought it yesterday, prefer this to lamy steel nib! this nib is sooooo sooooo smooth!!! and the weight is just sooo right from the first time i lift it! actually i tended to buy the ondoro series, but the weight is not right for me.., it's too light IMHO. i think im gonna buy another.., juct hooked by this under 100 dolar pen..

Hi! If directly comparing the Loom and Impressa, which would you recommend for a first fountain pen? Also, do you have any experience/knowledge of how the impresss paint holds up over time? Thank you!
@Gouletpens8 жыл бұрын
I'd definitely go with the Loom over the Impressa. The nibs is a bit smoother and the body is more durable. I use one pretty regularly and enjoy it quite a bit. Haven't heard of any issues of the Impressa scratching too easily. - Colin

Hi GPC, I have a question. Which one writes smoother Faber Castell Loom (M nib) or Jinhao X750 (with Goulet nib)?
@Gouletpens7 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's a good one. They're both smooth & wet writing nibs, but I would lean more towards the Goulet nib, especially the medium. - Colin

Hey Brian, may I leave a friendly suggestion? I like the new camera angle in these videos. I don't recall or now if you've tried this before but I was thinking that you could use some kind of pad on your desk, like a large black mouse pad or something, when you show the top view, specially when you compare the different pens, so that they don't slide off and they stay still. Maybe another color instead of black since a lot of pens are black :P anyways, hope you read this and that it's helpful, I'm thinking in giving one of these to my mom, I personally liked the Basic more, but I also want the TWSBI 580 AL.

I've had this pen for almost 2 years (purchased from spring 2013). I have 2 questions for you: first, this pen seems to slip downward from my thumb and index finger as I am writing. Do you have a special writing technique for this solution? What is your solution? Second, which solid aluminum converter do you suggest I get that comes with a small dot inside the converter that pushes the ink downward as I am writing? I already have a plastic converter but I want to upgrade to a more solid aluminum converter with the small black dot that pushes the ink downward with the gravity as I'm writing.
@Gouletpens9 жыл бұрын
RK NINE First would be to try cleaning the pen, make sure there isn't junk in the feed that's impeding the ink flow. Then check to see if you're somehow rotating the pen in your hand as you write, that's a common yet subtle thing that can affect writing especially when it's consistent on certain strokes. For the converter, I honestly don't know what you're describing. Aluminum is not a good material to use for a converter, because it'll react and corrode with prolonged exposure to FP ink. -Brian Goulet

The Goulet Pen Company I do clean my fountain pens on a regular basis. I clean them first by flushing it in/out with clean cool water, second flushing in/out using the "perfect pen flush" that has ammonia and finally the third step is again in/out with the clean water. I let it dry for almost one day before reassembling all the parts together and refilling it up with ink. In terms of me writing with the pen; I do grab the pen with my index and thumb steady without any rotation. My fingers still keeps slipping downward.

Great video. Do Pelikan nibs (m200) fit into the housing unit of the Faber-Castell Loom? I want to buy but I want to be able to change nibs.
@Gouletpens6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the Pelikan nibs are proprietary, so they can only work on those pens. The Loom nib is #5 though, so an Edison nib would fit on it if you want to swap: www.gouletpens.com/edison-replacement-nibs/c/82 - Colin

I have the Faber-Castell Loom but, for some reason, the standard international converter fits on it very loosely. I tried a bunch of different converters and some of them are a little better, but they all end up leaking because they don't fit on properly. Would the Faber-Castell converter fit better or did I just happen to get a faulty unit?
@acidzen9 жыл бұрын
+Amaryllis Lachapelle I have Loom with FC converter and it sits like a glove. but when I tried that converter with Pilot pen it couldn't fit. I wasn't insisting and pushing too strong, but it might be that FC is a bit tighter than standard.
@amaryllisl89289 жыл бұрын
dandellion Kimban It's normal that it doesn't fit in a Pilot pen since Pilot isn't a standard fit. The Loom is supposed to be, however, which is why I was wondering if I just happened to get a faulty one.

I have locally bought (Sydney, Australia) Loom with Medium Nib and I have just ordered another from Goulet Pens in the Gunmetal finish. My question is this: Are there stub nibs available for the Faber-Castells? I also have a pair of E-motions and I find that the user-friendliness of these pens is unparalleled. Walter
@Gouletpens6 жыл бұрын
The Loom should fit any #5 nib, so one like Edison's stub should work: www.gouletpens.com/edison-replacement-nibs/c/82/?sortBy=productName%2Basc&facetValueFilter=price%3A20.0%2CTenant~Nib_Size%3A1.1mm-stub%2CTenant~Nib_Size%3A1.4mm-stub - Colin

Colin, the Gunmetal F-C Loom i purchased arrived this Friday just gone and I am so thrilled both with the pen and the superb service from Goulet Pens. I have researched the Edison stubs a bit and as a result I have some queries: 1. Some reviewers say that they are not the smoothest. 2. Other suggestions are that Goulet Pens works a little magic on each nib before they dispatch it. 3. There is also discussion of a very narrow sweet spot. As a Lamy 2 K user (medium and broad) I am well acquainted with the intricacies of the sweet spot and it doesn't worry me. 4. I do have a preference for smoothness over feed-back. Many thanks, Walter

Is it too heavy. Coming from a 20ish gram pen, is it uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. Drawn to it due to the fabled Fabre castell nib but I am not sure which to get between the cheaper writink (not a fan of the fingerprint, is it the same nib), the basic and this. Which is best? Thanks. Also would you recommend the medium or broad having enjoyed the twsbi Eco stub
@Gouletpens7 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed the weight of the Loom to be that much of an issue. At 32g, it's heavier, but not really heavy if that makes sense. Haven't tried the Writink yet, but they do feature the same nib. If you like the TWSBI stub, I think the medium nib on the Loom is the closest to it. You can compare for yourself with our Nib Nook tool (www.gouletpens.com/nib-nook). - Colin

I THINK german companies don´t ship their pens with converters - because we germans are VERY used to ink cartridges.... you have to be really into fountain pens or dip pens, when you buy a bottled ink here.... i am working in an office environment - and i am the only person using fountain pens... 🥲 (but when collegues need something nice handwritten - they come to me... )
