This is what I used back in the 90's in architecture school when Revit didn't exist.

This is my first time using a lead holder/clutch pencil. The 2H leads that I'm using are quite tough. I attempted to sharpen it with a sanding block and it's sharpness turned out okay, I'm just waiting for the lead sharpener that I ordered, should help to not have to sharpen it tediously with a sanding block.

@@DrawingTechnical BIM is too constraining for early stage design and seems to have not really delivered in automating the drawing process which was its main objective.
@DrawingTechnical2 жыл бұрын
Automating the drawing process it certainly does not. Revit, one of the BIM programs, when it tries to automate something, it's more like it you feed it information, and it pukes out a mess which you have to clean up.

@@DrawingTechnical We are given digital tools that enable headfirst dives into deep pools of interest while excluding everything else. The promise is that “everything else” will always be in the Revit cloud, available on demand. Lost in this seductive pitch is that being well informed is about context as much as it is about factoids. It is the overview that permits the assessment of the particular, that offers all-important insight into what we don’t know.

I never knew, until a few years ago that there was a 2mm lead sharpener. I always used sandpaper for this job.
@DrawingTechnical2 жыл бұрын
I ordered a 2mm lead sharpener, but I couldn't wait to use the pencil, so I ended up sharpening on the sandpaper. It's quite fun but very messy. I have the small sharpener now.

@@tsusec Haha, I guess you're right. I have fountain pens and fill one up every week to take to work. By far the messiest experience I've had is trying to use an inkbow compass or an inkbow pen, those are quite tricky to use.

I got a TK 4600 and I always wanted to know how to disassemble these leadholders! Thanks for showing! Would you also know how to disassemble the Staedtler 780/788 Techno?
@DrawingTechnical2 жыл бұрын
No problem. I'll have to get one of those Staedtler 780/788 Technos, I assume there's something different about it?

Hey there's, there's a version of this called the tk4600 and it has a clip and a sharpener in the button. I use mine for illustration (in 2b and red lead). Nice video!
@DrawingTechnical2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I've seen that version and I was cursing myself because that's the one I wanted and I ordered the wrong one XD. I have a staedtler mars something or other which I ordered a few days ago and it has a sharpener on the end like that, haven't tried it yet.
@ninner196 Жыл бұрын
I use the regular Staedler sharpener and don’t have any issues. I extend it longer and it fits fine in the one that holds the shavings. I have used it with other clutch pencils also.😊
@DrawingTechnical Жыл бұрын
I've tried sharpening the clutch pencil lead in a regular sharpener, but it requires to much careful movement I think. To avoid that I just bought a cheap little lead pointer, someone gifted me the Staedtler one.
@InyasArt2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and as for sharpeners Faber-Castell make two versions. The Kitaboshi one is pretty good for the sketch tool box aaaand you can use these with the Staedtler rotary one for an amazing sharp point!
@DrawingTechnical2 жыл бұрын
Kitaboshi? Is that the box with the turn crank handle?

Gee Dude! You really don't need an inch of lead sticking out of the end, even a quarter of an inch is too much!!! Also, you don't have dismantle the whole pencil for any reason at all! When you want to sharpen the lead just let also about a quarter of an inch stick out, pull the back end off, stick the blunt end of the protruding lead into the little end piece that you've removed from the back, apply a bit of pressure on the whole pencil and turn it around! 😀 your lead is now sharpened without having to dismantle the whole pencil, just the end cap!!!👍
@DrawingTechnical2 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment. I dismantled the pencil to show viewers in case anyone wants to see it dismantled. On this pencil, unfortunately the end cap doesn't work as a sharpener. I've bought a staedtler that should have an end cap sharpener though.

I need an inch of lead exposed, to draw. Long exposed leads, are a must for Free drawing .

Hi there. I have TK 9400 that holds 2mm leads and one that holds 3.1 leads. ....but not the appropriate sharpener. Can I sharpen the thicker leads of 3,1 mm with the small Fabee Castell sharpener as well or only the 2mm leads ? Or do I have the order another one for the thicker ones ?
@DrawingTechnical9 ай бұрын
Hello, I've just examined the small Faber Castell sharpener and the Staedtler tub sharpener, both of them look like they can only take 2mm leads and no bigger. It seems you'll have to find a sharpener for a 3.1 lead. Hope that helps.
@greekveteran2715 Жыл бұрын
It's the only TK model they never sell in my country. That's why I have to rely on the 5 TK 4600's I own and 2 TK 9400 3.25mm Even though it seems almost the same with the 4600, I bet the TK 9400 2mm has a better balance because it doesn't have the longer and heavier button that's also a sharpener. Do you own the 4600 to compare them? I tried to order it from Germany, and the shipping costs only was 70$ ! I also want a set of these, because they can have the lead grade written on them, which is the main reason, I need the 9400 2mm.
@DrawingTechnical Жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't have any other Faber Castell to compare it to, but I do have a staedtler mars 780 C which I am yet to unpack and compare it with the TK 9400. I like the TK 9400, it feels good to make a line with, it's strong and thin to hold, like a pencil. That shipping cost is nuts! You'll have to search around for a better price.
