I've only tested it for a couple of minutes, but the filter on this synth is about the best I've heard on any VST...

Twin is not named after the original two oscillators. It’s named after the dual filters, hence FabFILTER.

is there anything in this synth which haven't been invented/implemented in the past 30y? or is this just a new fancy UI?

Oh come on guys... He's not saying anything bad about the synthesizer. He's just saying that aside from its beauty and workflow, it doesn't add anything that other synthesizers can't offer. He wouldn't use it too often and that's why he won't buy the synthesizer. He's right about that, and frankly, I've drawn the exact same conclusion for myself. Of course, if you don't already own many synthesizers, you can't go wrong with the Twin 3. Listen, people. Listen to the context - besides, he literally said why he won't buy Twin 3. Don't get all crazy just because there is someone out there deciding with sense and reason if a product would add something to their setup or not! If the synth adds something to your setup, buy it, all cool.... What's the problem?

@Bjulin Twin has always been a pretty basic VA synth- nothing to get excited about IMO. Fab filters though! lol & the tune I use to demonstrate with sounds way better using the synths I actually used to make it!

It's refreshing to hear an honest opinion for a change, in the sea of promotional videos disguised as reviews that clogs the internet nowadays. I also agree that while the synth is very beautiful to look at, streamlined, and sounds good, I honestly don't hear anything special that would justify the price tag. For all the people that found outrageous to watch a critical review, I say this: It's a VA with a simple architecture, hard to get excited by it, if you already bought other similar options.
@audiosnobs Жыл бұрын
@Giuseppe Lentini I'm really glad you agree, like you say it's 1 of many VA synths around & let's be honest, there are 1 or 2 extremely good VA synths around - how many do you need?

Synth with the most presets are the best The weak point of the new synth is its meager presets. (e.g. Pegmant, Massive X, paralles and Twin3?)
@audiosnobs Жыл бұрын
@Zoo Look Yep, Presets are a great spring board, like I said in the vid, I like to start with a preset that's in the ball park - the presets in this are rubbish & yeah, Massive X was a massive dissapointmenrt same with Pigments, MiniFreak & Phase plant - they just don't inspire you to drag something good out of them.

From what I hear and see on these Twin 3 reviews, it sounds to me like a silky synth that is going to make very good analogue style sounds of a wide sonic gamut within the classic synthesis paradigm. If it appears on ipad/AUv3 format (likely) then it may well become the goto for analogue for me. I think it’s biggest strengths, apart from the interface and sound definition, is the filter system. This is the biggest departure from a standard subtractive synth -because of the EQ style element which would allow for extra dynamic alterations of timbre by modulating EQ/Filter points. The biggest shame is that the oscillators could have added at least a sample source or a simple wave table library as an additional waveform choice. This would have opened up the synths style further. The more I look at this, the more it feels like an analogue-only-focused version of Arturia’s Pigments but with filters on steroids.

@Funkapace A nice synopsis - If only some of my synths had filters as good as this ...or did I mean if only this had the features of some of my synths 😀

@@audiosnobs Thanks for this review :-) - the best filter? Any advantage to zebra/diva?
@audiosnobs Жыл бұрын
@@reskatze1049 Diva is a great call! These are thinner but tighter & with incredible detail & sensitivity. All you'd have 2 do would be add some fat, warm vintage eq to this & it would sound possibly even better than Diva - maybe.

@@reskatze1049 U-he Zebra is up near the top of my synth list, just because no one got some of that characteristic that they did. Some synths sound a bit like others, but if you explore Zebra it has its own personality that is as deep as any.

@@audiosnobs For a music producer that makes SONGS instead of background music for film or video, interesting and complicated pad sounds are mostly useless. Something like the Roland Zenology will be far more useful in terms of providing an actual palette of tried and tested sounds that will work for SONGS.

Great demo Paul - sounds pretty lovely to me but I guess if you don't need a gorgeous sounding analog synth then it is indeed a waste of money! Nothing wrong with a niche product IMHO, that's where FF started after all. Plugins that try to do everything drive me nuts
@audiosnobs Жыл бұрын
@Chris Jones Thanks - the problem 4 me is that I have much better gorgeous sounding analog emulations - Diva is a strong case in point. Nothing wrong with a niche product at all except this is 1 of hundreds maybe thousands of VA synth plugs out there. The filters truly are fab apart from the fact that they sound thin & would definitely need warming up with eq to cut it. If you think it sounds 'gorgeous' you should hear the synths I used when I made this music! Thanks for the comment & enjoy your new niche synth when you buy it
