ok @diegolmm I'll bite! simply put, this music is good because the musicians are phenomenal and they play really well together, that is, they listen to each other, play off one another and fuse in a special way. they are also "fusing" genres in a masterful and quite free manner. from the trajectory of european classical music they take their instruments, melody, harmony, counterpoint and also, post-wwii, dissonance/atonality and disjunction and-from the minimalists-repetition and an emphasis on the psychoacoustic aspects of the sound itself. from jazz they take certain styles of phrasing, pulsing rhythmic elements and a sense of liberation that comes with free jazz, breaking out of conventional scales and patterns. both classical and jazz are pulling from folk traditions, and this duo does as well, with the sing-song character and playfulness that comes to define them. they can be somewhat difficult and challenge the listener in certain sections, but we are rewarded with a catchiness that is all the more transcendent for the darkness.
