I get what you're saying. There are many Dominican descendants (1st generation Americans) who live in communities immersed in the culture (language, foods, etc...). no, the first major latinos in NY were cuban. thats why cuban music became popular in the 30s 40s nd 50s, with popular clebrities like ricky ricardo etc. after the cuban embargo puerto ricans became the majority.theres always been a small dominican community since 1930, then after the fall of trujillo in the 60s, dominicans became abundant in NYC.
