PUT A SAFETY PROP ROD ON THAT BED!! You need one so when the day comes that you have to work under there you don't get squished by the bed if the hydraulics happen to fail.

Hello Fab Rats. Just one small thing needed for strength on the new frame. You deffo need some 90 degree angle plates on your cross member joints. If you don’t do this you will get to much latitudinal twist and you could even roll your truck over when loading/unloading, even on a flat level surface. This can even be caused by the wind when your load is being put on or off. Hope you don’t mind, I’m only trying to help. Keep up the good work and never give up

So you don't agree that welding a 14ft bed onto that frame is going to brace it sufficiently? Over and above the numerous crossbraces and hydraulic fittings that it already has. Each of those cross braces is 4inches across at either end. For my tuppence worth I reckon that rig is going to be plenty strong enough. I would however look at coming up with a method to ramp from the end of the deck down to the ground. I'm left wondering what the material benefit to a vehicle recovery it is, to have the deck able to tilt - when the end cannot reach the ground, to roll vehicles up it? Maybe Paul should've watched RAD, to see how Rudy created his rollback system from scratch.

Paul when you have the bed up for service you need a Safety "leg" that folds out to support the bed in the up right position, so the hydraulics don't bleed down with you between the frame and the bed rails.

For a Fab Brick Hater you messed up on this one Paul, form over function will never work out if a lower overall height is your aim, you started down that road when you picked that chassis, then you compounded it with those huge fuel tanks, you should have stepped the chassis and had tandem axles you'd be at least a foot lower, have rectangular tanks as cab foot boards, build that if you can.

Definitely a greater mechanical advantage if you'd turn the scissor lift 180° ! Also you might need to install physical stops in your cylinder to prevent overtravel on retract. If cylinder isn't fully bottomed it will eventually bend or break your frame

Instead of cutting the front of the bed and removing a section, you could cut the tail section and make it hinge so it folds onto itself while hauling but still give you the extra length while loading and unloading. This way, you don't have to lift so high to get the tail on the ground. Might come in handy when using it to haul anything other than the FJ.

Ok that looks good, now go the final step. Make some C channel which will fit over the outside of the dump rails. You can use nylon slides or small ball bearings so the C channel will slide on the dump rails. attach the bed to the C channels, add a ram in the back behind the dump ram. Now you have a fully operational roll back.

If you trim the approach, end of the bed. It could be hinged to be the ramp. Just swing under with a slam latch. The bed will remain the length you want and a hinged section to fold under. Less work. Later installing a hydronic ram to extend and retract it as needed. Just a thought. Even a pneumatic ram to the job.

Hey Paul , Just a heads up, your hydraulic. cylinder needs to be at the bottom of its stroke when the the bed frame is down. If not every time you bring the bed down your cylinder will be trying to overtravel and will eventually break the mount on your bed. This can be avoided by a little measure taping and installing stops internally in the cylinder.

Depending on how long the flat bed tray is you should mount ramps that slide out from under the bed that are track width that don't interfere with the subframe. Use spring latchs to hold the ramps in place while extended and closed to allow a more subtle load angle without the need for additional bed length other than what's required. As Paul would say "I don't see why that just won't work."

Granted the truck still should have been stretched and had duals or a tandem axel but you should have put the work in to make a roll back.
