I had a 1978 Impala with a V8 350 that was transplanted into another chassis after I wore out the 1st one, and it was at 365,000 miles. It was a neighbors car, and I was 2nd owner. I drove it between 6 duty stations and home in the central plains, and cross country twice, while in the Navy. It was a BEAST fast as hell and always started ! I miss that motor, ended up giving the 2nd Chassis away to a friend who needed a car and he drove it for years after I gave it to him.

Estimated because I've owned it for 6 years and the guy I got it off of said the odometer didn't work for him since 2008. Then you have the late Irv Gordon who put 2 million plus on his Volvo. I am reminded of some years when a NASCAR driver went straight at 200 mph instead of turning. Happened during practice, and he was driving a Camry. Sheared the whole front of the car clean off in front of the firewall. He walked away. One of the top dogs at GM's racing division was quoted as saying basically, "Whoa! If he'd been driving one of our cars, he'd be so dead right now!" The news story disappeared pretty quickly. Wonder if i can find it now. Maybe 15 years ago, car number was 00 or 01 as I recall....

Some Years ago I bought a Mercedes 240 D Station. It had about 500,000 km on the clock. I drove it for 10 years, a lot on unpaved roads, and the engine gave up having done a further 400.000 km . I had longer springs and longer shocks that raised it about 7 cm for more ground clearance. I used 185/80 15, instead of the 165/70R 14 original giving me another 3 cm.. I had to do some welding to keep the body going and used quite few spare parts on the way. It was the "bad road" version Mercedes sold also to the Middle East for the bad roads there. They have a protection plate under the engine, gear case and final drive and some extra rips strengthening mainly the area under the trunk.

That Geo is like the same car my buddy had in high school. It ran no matter what. At one point it had a hole in the radiator and you could drive it for about 30 minutes and then it would seize up and then you just had to wait a little while and that thing would crank over and start right back up. I've never seen anything like it since. Used to do reverse dumps and just smoke tires off it until it shut off. And that just wait for it to cool down again.

Geo Metro (Suzuki Swift) cars are awesome. Aka Chevy Sprint, Chevy Metro, and Pontiac Firefly. Had an '87, two different '95s, and a '98. Not fast, but reliable and well designed. Great in snow. Think my personal record was 72 mpg on a 300+ mile trip, and 56 mpg on the return trip. Too bad this one's been trashed. (NOTE: not to be confused with the later Suzuki Swift+, aka Chevy Aveo, which isn't even made by Suzuki. They stopped selling Metro cars in North America after 2001.).

In 1981 I bought the 'Best Vehicle I've Ever Owned' it was an 11 year old Chevy Van with a 230 cu in straight 6 in the dog house between the seats it was an old phone company van I bought from some guy and the odometer indicated 30,000 miles there was no 100,000 mile digit so the actual mileage is just a guess I figure probably 230,000 and got it for $500... I put another 550,000 miles on top of that, it never left me stranded, and always made it home, it just sometimes took a little longer when I had to fix something... Something about rebuilding the Rochester 1 barrel carb on the engine on a rainy day sitting in the van in the driver's seat was really appealing...👍👍
