Fabric Friday | Pietra Pant + Square Neck Top | Featuring Batik Linen + Batik Cotton Jersey Knit

Me Made May has now passed and I "almost" accomplished my goals of sewing six new garments. Today I introduce two super-cute garments; The Square Neck Top featuring our Batik Cotton Jersey Knit and the Pietra Pant featuring our Batik Linen.

You are welcome! Today is my day to adjust the pattern pieces and baste a muslin of the shorts. This will also help me best understand the flare of the shorts and how long I want them. Stay Tuned...

Love my Pietra pants! I made the shorts first & noticed that the rise is a bit high on me as well. So I'm going to shorten the rise. I did sew my seams after serging. Going to be looking at the Square neck top from Friday Patterns.

Today I'm cutting out the shorts using old muslin - after adjusting the rise on the pattern. I will record the steps I take and the results. I think I need to adjust 2" or more. I'm looking forward to altering the pattern and making several more of the pant/shorts!!

@SewBatik I am. I was planning in making the a little something jacket and some capri pants for a cruise. I'm struggling with fitting on some other projects so behind on my goal. But I will get there and certainly tag. The fabric is just luxurious and colorful!

I made the Pietra pants yesterday, I had watched a few reviews beforehand…. But, I wish I had had watched your vlog as well. According to my measurements I was supposed to make between 16-18, I made a 12 and I still found that it was still a little on the large size in the legs. Also the crotch was still very low and waist very high. I had thought that I might retire this pattern but after watching your vlog, I may very well try it one more time with a few of your recommended adjustments. Thanks 👍🏻

Definitely try the pattern again. I had plans of making shorts to fit the pattern one more time knowing what I know now. I didn't accomplish making the shorts and now it's getting cool outside. I will still finish the shorts and share my experience.

Is you linen pre-washed? What is the percent shrinkage, do you know by now, after you’ve made things in it? Is it considered a mid weight or light weight linen? How much did it shrink in the width? And why did you use such a small needle, size 8. Seems so small! Thanks

Hi Gina - the linen is not pre-washed. We recommend pre-washing all your fabric before working with it. I'm going to hold off on the shrinkage - as I don't want to guess. I'm sewing Pietra Shorts and will record each step (stay tuned..). Our linen is a light weight linen (4.8 oz/yrd2). I have a Fira dress made with our Linen. I wear a slip underneath because I see light through it when walking in front of a window. Pants, tops, jackets, do not need to be lined. I used the size 8 needle because it was available by my sewing machine, no other reason. I normally have size 11 or 12 available, but didn't this time. Size 8 is small, but that's just fine.
