Totally agree with your take on the intake. The original intakes on these truck LS motors look terrible. I am currently trying to figure out what to do on my LQ4, and it’s a minefield of consequences. If you go with the doorman LS2 it will cause you to redo your accessory drives belt setup! Still haven’t decided this. Currently putting 799 heads and a new cam on to get more performance and a nice sound. Thanks again for your perspective on this!
@intheshoptv10 ай бұрын
I totally get ya. You would think that there would be a torquey aftermarket replacement for the truck intakes other than the tall “fast” intake for $1k+! And yes, the accessory drive becomes an issue when switching to a car intake, and again, the only nice replacements cost a small fortune. That all part of what lead me to this decision.

Even though I really like the look and price of these Chinese Holly Copy sheet metal intakes, the loss in performance is there, but I don't think it's the end of the world. I actually just came across an entire new copy-ish intake manifold for LS that is the newer style full aluminum curved top (similar to a BTR Trinity etc) from China, that is currently being sold on Ebay for $450 for the kit with seals, fuel rails etc in either black or chrome from a seller named 'Deepmotor' that is ready to accept a 102mm throttle body as shipped (for the LS3 flanged model anyway). I agree with you. Who cares about an extra 5% HP/TQ when the car will already fry the tires and is just a cruiser. I like your project. Look forward to it hitting the streets.

@@gthomas5880 they are definitely noisy. The slightest damping with your hand or a piece of silicone, rubber etc quiets it instantly. @intheshoptv4 ай бұрын
@@travisnunya4641 really depends on your application. They are both high rpm style intakes so really we start looking at small details when making a choice… I guess the carbon fiber intake probably has a slight advantage if you consider heat soak at all. It also may be a little quieter. I know the sheet metal intakes tend to be a little noisy, although billet may be not as much. However the billet is nicer looking. EXACTLY!!!! I am doing my first swap. Ls3/6L90E in a 03'Crown Vic Police Interceptor. It's a project with my grandkids. I don't care what other people think. I don't need a thousand horse. I want it ro look cool and run good. I've rebuilt this engine. I don't want a 5.3L with a turbo like everyone is running. I want a N/A that my wife can drive and not be difficult for her to drive. I put a BTR Ls3 Stage 2 V2 cam in it. If I can get 400ish to the wheels that's great. It had a 239 horse engine from the factory. So what 190 to 200 at the wheels and she would still move a bit. With this much horse and way more torque then it had at the wheels, this thing should be a riot. Burnouts and ice cream with the wife and grandkids and also some car shows. My next Vic will have a 5.0L. Good deal.

@@intheshoptv I run a victor jr. it actually makes 30 less ft/lbs and the same peak power at 6700rpm as the truck intake however the truck makes that power sooner and carries it for about 1000 rpm. I was forced to use a single plane due to being blow thru turbo charged. But like you said, most street cars are driven under 3500 most of the time. With that being said. The “ugly” truck intake makes more power than that polished thing you praise so much from 2900 all the way to 6 grand. Seems like the clear choice for a street car. I’m glad I found your channel so that I could educate you after you blocked me on Facebook when I proved you wrong there too.
@intheshoptv10 ай бұрын
@@DWBmotorsports Not 2900 rpm, 3500 rpm and under, the curve is virtually indistinguishable (which you agree is where most street cars reside). It really makes little difference what intake you use down under numbers that low. Street cars dont operate from 3500 to 6000 genius. If you would pay attention to what I said, I never praised sheet metal intakes. I said that not everyone desires peak performance. I know that from YOUR perspective that is unfathomable. But its quite true. Watch the end of the video, then perhaps it may start making sense to you. Pay attention to what I said about baseline. I even said in the video, that these intakes make less power than a truck intake but you’re so hellbent on trying to thump your chest for attention that you didn’t even catch any of that. Or maybe not, maybe you’ll stay entrenched in your own perspective and be unable to see things for other points of view. Either way, I wont block you here, as every reply you make benefits my channel by working the algorithm, whereas on facebook, your petulance is simply distracting. So I encourage you, my new friend and promotional ally… please continue to argue petulantly. I find it profitable. And you proved nothing because you still haven’t paid any attention to what was said. All you’ve proved is the fact that you feel insignificant or insecure about something and need to pick cyber fights to feel better about whatever it is that you feel inadequate about. Nonetheless, Im honored that you took the time to seek me out on yet another platform to engage more. Its quite flattering! Its so interesting that you silly people allow yourselves to get so bent all because of a piece of aluminum that’s not even on your vehicle. Weird right?
