I would strongly recommend using some drilling oil with the drill press. It will save you a ton on bits. Surprised others haven't made this comment already.

even WD40 works so you don't burn up the drill bits and have to sharpen them again

If the cutting speeds are correct cutting oil is optional.

Better too strong a drill press than not strong enough, Jordan. And, getting a drill press is a good idea. You'll be surprised at how much you will use it. Keeping your shop clean is smart and will help you avoid injuries. Nice work.

Keep on keeping on Jordan. I really have enjoyed watching your accomplishments. I have enjoyed doing the same kinds of thins my self. When you can buy almost anything in the world, making it yourself is extremely satisfying. Thanks for sharing.

Yes please, drill press, grinder, impact tools. My new toy box is empty. I'm not the fabricator you are. Just a old back yard mechanic. Great job on the luggage rack brackets.

When cutting steel that thick I usually use some cutting oil. Helps reduce the heat & wear on the drill bits, which are a pain to sharpen. Love watching the build progress though!

Oh you got the big boy, I picked up the table mount bigger one. Same pipe bender too. lol, friends make fun of my harbor tools. If you pick and choose well they are great for a home shop.

I suggest using a cutting oil to protect the bits. I've watched "Project Farm" using it when he did drill bit testing and it did help.

i just left a book length comment on Jess's channel so ill be kind to you lol. my only concern is will that tube interfere with the swing arm when it extends if you was to get some air. i know its not a motocross bike but just a thought. 5/16..well it will be strong lol. looks like a nice floor drill press. grats man. it can help with drilling if you have a bottle of oil like an oiler can or like a squeezable ketchup bottle so you can put a dab on the drill spot. drilling a pilot hole like you did is a really good habit to have. good vid

Just a heads up Jordan, the smaller the drill bit, the faster you are going to want to run it. It will make the cutting edge last longer and will cut more efficiently. Another great video, thanks for sharing.

Really enjoy your sportster build. I do a lot of my own work on my sportster but not well equipped as you are with tools. So I rely a lot on aftermarket parts and just modifying stuff to fit. Keep those video's coming.

Funny, in the last video, you already had the drill press making the brackets for the BMW. Like I commented in that video, your fabrication skills, in such a short time are PHENOMENAL! Merry Christmas to you and Jess. Jayman...

I almost would use pipe versus square tubing depending how you are attaching to frame. Either will be strong though so personal choice. That 5/16 Plate is definitely gonna be strong. Are you welding the cross peice to frame or bolting? Can't wait to see rest of the build

You should check out one of the cheap plasma cutters on Amazon I have one it's great think I paid 200 /250 works great cuts 1/2" plate ok anything smaller it cuts like butter of course 220 works best 110 it will cut thin sheet metal definitely better then cutting with a grinder
