Tiny face mites called Demodex folliculorum are living on your skin right now. These common mites are found on the skin of most adults and are typically harmless. They live in the hair follicles and feed on the oil produced by the follicles. At night, they come out to mate and lay eggs in the hair follicle. In this video, we'll be exploring the fascinating world of Demodex face mites and learning more about their biology and behavior. Whether you're a student of biology or simply have a curiosity about the hidden creatures living on your skin, this video is sure to educate and intrigue. Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn more about Demodex face mites.
Part 2/2: • Demodex FACE MITE unde...
Tips for extracting the face mites for microscopic observation: Put sticky tape over your forehead, node, cheeks and leave it there for about 30 minutes. Keep the face dark to imitate night. Put the tape with the sticky surface on top on a microscope slide and observe. They can best be seen using a 40x objective. The superglue method also works, but has several disadvantages. The glue might harm the mite and it can irritate the skin and eyes. You have to be patient finding the face mites. Slowly and carefully scan the whole slide with the 10x objective. The face mites can be seen well at this magnification.

I found one of these things when I was 17 years old. I was examining a black head that I extracted from my nose and this thing was on the slide. remember six legs but everything else was the same. I drew a picture for every scientific person that I had a class with and met but no one could tell me what it was. I am now 77 years old and finally I know so Thank you for that.

A method that I prefer, if you have oily skin like me. Drag the back edge of a fingernail firmly along your face skin; around the nose works well. Then wipe the sample from the nail onto a slide. This way, the creatures are not "stuck" with glue or tape. It's very interesting to watch them journey around the slide. Unfortunately, observing them does lead to their death so I have only done it a few times.

Commendable commitment, donating so much of your eyebrow to science! Well done! I would recommend against using superglue on your slides in future, though, and just stick (*ha!*) to the tape method. Cyanoacrylate offgasses even after it's 'cured' and fogs optical components. In my industry, you have to have a pretty strong justification to use it anywhere on a product for fear of clouding a sensor housing.

Many people diagnosed with rosacea have an over abundance of demodex mites. Search for products for human demondex skin treatments. If this is the source of your reddening and outbreaks, specific demodex treatment will help tremendously. A warning...your skin will get worse before it gets better, as they die off. Regular use of demodex products will keep them under control. Those with serious acne may try demodex treatment to see if will help.

If they're too many, they can make eyelashes to fall off. Use tea tree oil (diluted of course) to get rid of them. But don't allow tea-tree oil to get into the eye, it can damage eye.

I must say, I had no success so far, maybe I did it too early in the evening (22:00-22:30) or the dim book lamp made it difficult for them to get out, it might also have been too hot weather, or maybe I don't have them at all (I find it difficult to believe), couldn't find any yet, I will repeat this experiment, it just might be that sweat also affects the process.

Somehow found this video.... BTW, use any soap with Tea Tree oil in it regularly if you want to minimize the infestation. Especially the eyelid area and eyebrows. I use the hippy-dippy Dr. Bronners Peppermint-Hemp castile soap as it has a fair amount of tea tree oil in it, and a bottle lasts a year when diluted for body wash, facial scrub, ear cleaner and the sink soap foamer. It is a very good degreaser and my glasses are squeaky clean. Oops, you can tell I like it. Great channel, I'm subbing now.

HARTZ "Cat and Dog Flea Dip" in a Blue plastic bottle, about a tablespoon in 1 gallon warm water, can be used. it could also be that because of skin problems you will have too much of these buggers => so they might be a indication and not a causation of skin problems ! knowing that most of the problems are caused by environmental stresses , fysical , chemical and emotional . most people eat too much junkfood and it shows at there biggest organ => the skin think abouth that first ;-)
