She's just smart enough to formulate ways to manipulate and frame people, but absolutely no self-awareness or advanced intelligence to realize that continuously backstabbing people will just garner more enemies, and is entirely too dependent on her royal lineage and doting father to protect her. The moment those were gone, karma came knocking with a vengeance. So her shooting for the shield instead of an actual target reflects both her laziness and lack of planning.
