I love the Steve’s idea to start with a working gun and upgrade 1 component at a time. I got a Girsan MC1911 commander and I was impressed with basic fitting. I am starting with the trigger job. Thanks.

I have a power custom series 1 jig. Instructions say 20 clicks up from bottom. After stoning my Kimber and RIA sear I had hammer follow. I saw a post that said 4 clicks from bottom. 4 clicks worked. There's a big difference between 4 clicks and 20 clicks.

I have a workbook for building a 1911 by Ed Brown. I don’t know if it’s sold anymore but it’s very helpful as well as a book on building by Wilson’s as well as their 4 VHS tape series that they use to sell. 8 hours of first hand knowledge. I wish they would consider converting it to DVD or Blu-ray and selling them again or perhaps making a updated version with their current gunsmiths. In it Ron Phillips was the best instructor as well as Vic Tibbits. I had a Gold Cup that GunButcher had mutilated and it followed every time. Using the videos I was able to fix most of its problems myself particularly the trigger. By the way I have both volumes of Kuhnhausen’s manuals. For handwork the first volume is most useful.

How about a fitting jig for the manual Safety to keep the angle to fit it to the sear. I was searching for one, but never found one. I did this by hand I was lucky my first time fitting the manual safety. A jig would have helped.

As you're filing everything to get the different parts to fit and get everything flush, what do we use to blend everything together for that clean uniform look?

Do you sell a basic 1911 armors tool kit that includes everything or most of everything you mentioned? Or possibly a custom tool kit you can mix and match different items.

I was given a 1911 slide, wasn't a .45 slide. I ordered a Thunder Mtn. Tactical frame & 2 .40 S&W magazines, being a friend has a .40 barrel & bushing he wants to part with. Government 5" slide, frame & barrel. Is the a decent start? Never built one before. I have diamond, ruby & ceramic files to hone the components & a dial indicator for measuring dimensions. As a kitchen table attempt at putting it together, with Patience, is this doable?

Great tools. Wrong store to buy them at! I tried to buy a $4.00 part and shipping was $13.00 until I canceled the insurance and then it went to $10.00. Twice the cost of the part. A real rip-off.

Behind you on the peg board you have a hand tool all the way to the right on the magnetic strip. I call it a machinest scraper. I have used it to modify the throat on a 1911 barrel. I can't find one of these tools anywhere on your Web page. My question is what do you call it and where can I get one if not from you.
