All that beautiful work, with a depressing fabric. Go bold and bright, give that old lady a smile. I take the fabric off and make a template so I have the a good patternless. You may watch “Chair Whimsey” for an idea of what I’m saying. She is amazing, and so are you...but choose gorgeous fabrics. Love you hard work!!!! Thank you

Hi Bonnie, thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! The customer chose the fabric! I know what you mean about using the old fabric as a template but as this chair is quite simple cutting-wise, I didn’t think it was necessary but I definitely do do that for other more complex pieces. But thank you for the kind comment!!

Hey Neil, found your channel a few weeks back, took it upon myself to refill my sagging leather couch with foam and polyester, added new webbing using the upholstery nails n a mallet. Had to work from bottom of the couch to top as it is a non removable seat cushions and back cushions. I think the sofa is over 20 years I think I’ll get another 10 out of it. Thanks for your very knowledgeable videos about the materials and methods of work. Good luck for 2023.

I have a very old antique wooden lower back chair with a carved monogram C on the front facing part of the beautiful curved back. The arms are a beautiful raised, then sloping to a gorgeous SWAN's head. I bought it for my husband for a wedding gift to him. Our last name is Coleman. I will be putting a new seat on it. But the material I am using will be a thick tapestry I will be embroidering, to make it extra special. Thank you for doing this great video. Since it is so old and a blond wood that has not been stained, I will be just using a bees wax on it. I want to preserve its antique integrity and quality. Often times people do too much to antiques when unnecessary. It is good to leave it the way it was intended when made. ( but I do want to say I do prefer the lighter wood for this chair you work on). From the look of the base edge of the seat of the chair, looks like it's been reuphosteted at least ten times. They used upholstery nails. Can you still use the little black uphosrty nails? Or do you recommend staples?
@faceliftinteriors Жыл бұрын
Would love to see the chair, send me some pics on Instagram. I would always recommend staples, I get some people prefer to use tacks and keep the authenticity but who's going to know?! 🤷♂️⛏️📎📐🧵🧵👍

@@faceliftinteriors Cylinder or barrel @FaceLiftInteriors I would love to send some pics. It was in storage in the USA when we moved to Eire to serve as missionaries. We left it in my in-laws home along with other antiques. They both passed away and relations moved our antiques into a storage unit, but not great storage and our fine antiques recieved some damage with damp. But our swan head chair only received a small bit of friction damage; the size of a small raisen. And the blonde wood has darkened. As if it got dirty? I am unsure how to clean the swan chair. I have thought of possibly qq q super fine sand paper over it and on the friction damage. The rub in a good bit of beas wax! When I send you ths pics, take a good look at the wood colour and the friction damage, and give me your opinion please. I would really appreciate it. So glad I can finally do what I had planned for my dear hubby all those years ago. It's never too late. It got stuck inside a storage unit. We are going to fix a small bottom door on our beautiful solid oak roll top desk. It's a cylinder or barrel oak type. I can't imagine how the door started pulling apart at the dove tail joint. We also have air oak table with carved oak leaves around it and on the cross beams underneath it has panels with the same carve decoration. I won't list all of them off. I know we can't take them with us when we die, I'm just so thankful to our Lord, we can have our own furnishings back. We endeavour to store up treasure in heaven.That is serving God and serving and blessing others. God bless you and your family !✝️🕊🙏🏻

Hiya, ahh thankyou much appreciated 😊. Yes my recommendation is don't use an electric staple gun, there isn't enough power in them to get into hard wood and I just keep hearing bad things. BTW, I have a very similar chair and I am thinking of re-upholstering it. I bought new it in the 1980's. The fabric is a tapestry vase/flower motif, with a large design centered on the back and seat, with strip-studs. I would prefer to re-upholster it in a similar fashion. That is, with a tapestry motif of some kind and strip-stud edging. How much fabric do you think it will need? BTW, I have done a bit of re-upholstering myself, including several chairs. But none like this. Anyway, thanks for any help you can give.

Really helpful advice here, thanks. Is there anywhere I can get a stapler similar to the one you use? Or could you recommend a good starter stapler? I’ve got an electric Stanley and I find it really clunky and stiff to use 🙄. Thanks 🙏

I'm working on a similar chair, but the crevices are a bit different. And I'm just doing it for a lady I clean for. I'm not an upholsterer, I'm a seamstress. Anyway I don't want to invest in a pneumatic stapler. I have an electric one, but I'm having trouble getting the safety to engage and shoot the staple where it needs to go. Help! Do yo have any advice.

@@faceliftinteriors I have an antique Victorian parlor chair that I had to completely dismantle because the chair itself needed to be repaired and refinished. It’s worth the work because it’s beautifully hand carved and very old-likely 1800s. It had seven or eight heavy springs that were strung with rope and nailed into the inside of the chair, as well as webbing. Getting those springs re-strung and nailed back into the chair is going to be a cute trick. 😂
