Hello Neil . . . From Mississippi in the US . . . I have built wood furniture for years . . . Nearly 45 years ago, I worked with an upholster, bringing supplies and cleaning up . . . Fast forward: About a year ago, I bought an old commercial sewing machine and venturing off into upholstery. Though I watched the man I worked for many years ago, it's great to watch you, as you teach so very well the tips and tricks. You make it look so easy. Because you are a good teacher, I may say it's your fault that I have bought these supplies and equipment. (just kidding of course) This chair you just completed is very similar to what my wife wants me to make now and she wants two of them. I do watch your videos and often watch them more than once. Thanks for taking the time to produce really good tutorial-type videos. Again with as much humor as I can muster here: I don't anticipate another video as I should because you just make more work for me . . . Your videos add to my honey-do-list. And now being serious, thanks for good work and I appreciate your humor mixed in. Blessings.

Hi Jeff! Thanks so much for watching my videos, it really does mean a lot and I’m glad you find them helpful! Making frames is definitely something I want to learn more in-depth myself but it’s such an art, I want to learn it thoroughly before I start doing them. If you can do both, you’re a pro Jeff! Good luck with your chairs for your wife - I’d love to hear how they turn out!

@@faceliftinteriors Thanks for the response Neil . . . I haven't yet learned the upholstery well enough . . . . Maybe I need to build three chairs, and hopefully one will make the grade to go into the house. I will let you know how they turn out . . . Blessings again and I do await your next video . . . Merry Christmas . . .

I love watching you work! I reupholstered our lounge uite some years ago ( taught myself by taking it apart and reversing the process to put it together again) . Two of the chairs are our favourite so needed redoing 18 mths ago ...I sent the in to be done here in johannesburg - they looked fine but the zig zag springs and the sponge collapsed after only 6 mths. I want to strip them down completely and redo them myself - this video will help me 😊. I am nearly 70 yrs old , female and with arthritis and other illnesses ..that is why i got an upholstery firm to do them last time - but i would rather not waste pension money on bad service here---- You area is very blessed to have you !!!!! Thanks for your fantastic teaching😊....i am going to persevere! Greatings from South Africa

@faceliftinteriors

Hiya, dacron makes the template susceptible to movement, foam is much better for Templating as it holds it still. The dacron is thin so wouldn’t affect the final size. ✂️⛏️📐🧵

I have been reupholstering for 6 years now. Mostly self taught. I really struggle with the corners with the plygrip. Even though I'm pushing the plygrip as close to the piping as possible sometimes I still have a gap. I use one continuous piece of plygrip. Do you use two pieces of plygrip or do you use one and curve it around? If you use one how do you keep it close to the corner so there isn't a gap?

@faceliftinteriors 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Toni! Sorry for the delayed response. If it’s quite a tight corner I would use two pieces around the corner. But if it’s more of a bend than a corner I would use 1 piece 👍🏻

Might seem like a silly question but what size of staples do you use? I have two dining chairs to reupholster and as I have an electric stapler I intend to use that as buying a compressor and pneumatic stapler would make doing them myself economically unviable.

Maybe you will be good at it and more people will ask you to do theirs, then it won't be a bad investment. I use 4mm all the way up to 14mm. But as standard 8 or 10mm. ✂️📌🪡🧵📐

Why do you not fold over the elastic webbing in the back as well?
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors Жыл бұрын
Hi Joy - the back doesn’t need as much reinforcement on the webbing as it doesn’t take all of the weight like the seat does. But you absolutely could do that to the back too 👍🏻

Hi Louis - sorry for the delayed response. I’ve been in the industry for over 15 years but started off as a cutter and did that for a long time. I made sure to watch the upholsterers and ask loads of questions and learnt from there. Practical learning was the best way for me to learn though and learnt a lot on my own through making mistakes. Reupholstery is a great way to learn as you can see how the fabric goes on by taking each panel off 👍🏻 Hope that helps!
