Big respect to you for uploading most of the WAD's from the 90's to the new doom update (KEX engine), including putting the author's name in the description. So those WAD's can get more recognition from people who play doom for the first time (Especially for people who play doom on console).

I have an old Canadian CD from the mid-90s that contain hundreds of wads, a shareware copy of DOOM, and even a built-in level editor. Though I'm sure all these files can be found on the internet, it may be hard to dig through thousands of pages to find all of them, so it's cool to own a piece of what the community did back in the days.

The first doom mod I played was in 1996 called Alien Doom, it was a full campaign and incredibly well made. However I still cannot find it or any reference of it yet. It felt almost on par with Dark Forces visually, not audibly. Thanks for your video, it made me download mods I hope I'll have time to play later.

I actually managed to make that audio glitch happen when I was a kid. I had been been learning a lot about the doom was format and I was just setting random values in the wad file. And I set a couple of sound patches to have like a -1 size (4 billion on overflow). And doom played several of the audio effects all at once, since they were just in the wad file one after the next. I don't remember it playing as much as what you just said, but I probably stopped at before too long. I wonder what the sizes of the audio lumps are set too in that's batman wad file.

You know what mod made me love the Doom mod scene? a Dragon Ball Z gameplay mod, you had your kiensans, special beam canons, double sundays and of course the beast of the mighty Kame Hame Ha, of course all of this ones were literally doom weapons but with an anime skin on top of it, but damn was pretty damn rad to be in the shoes of Goku killing demons with energy balls from your hands, sadly i lost that wad in a HDD failure back in 2003, and i had been trying to find that old ass wad since then. Edit: ohh! that's the mod! its exactly as how i first saw it in a DBZ fanzine was so damn cool to use the Hame Ha wave and other powers and that blue weird looking hud, man this is pure nostalgia indeed.

I think the newer Simpsons mod is much better: correct voice lines, better sprites and also music for all doom levels. It also works with the original Ultimate Doom, but without custom music. 😊

These are all mods that were completed before 2000. SRB 2 is great, but it has come a long way, and was never a vanilla Doom mod, having been built from Doom Legacy. A really fun mod for sure though.

Thanks to Saintmillion's video on the development of Dark Forces we know that game was being worked on BEFORE Doom and the StarDoom mod although the team who was working on it got sent a beta of doom (probably the press release one) and I'm almost certain StarDoom was a pretty good outline for what Dark Forces could be at the time for the team at LucasArts

Nothing I hadn't heard about before. But I was surprised Aliens TC by Justin Fisher wasn't on the list. Probably the most famous and historicly important mod of them all. It was the first ever total conversion for DOOM, made by one single guy which led to him getting job offers as game designer. Other ones that spring to mind are Zombies DOOM and Army of Darkness TC.

Loved this video!!!! I remembered the first time I played Simpsons doom. Surprisingly I found it on Kazaa (anyone remember that?) and was stoked that it was even a thing so I downloaded it. Batman Doom was also a funny story. I didn’t know that some wads needed the dehacked patch to play correctly (mind you I was using ZDOOM at the time) so nothing worked correctly and I couldn’t beat the first level. Here are some mods I would recommend Army of Darkness doom Ghostbusters doom (sadly never finished) Final fantasy Doom The Tick doom Sonic Doom 2:Bots on Mobius Codename Hyena (you have to edit the wad and get rid of the Skin for it to work correctly) There’s tons more, but if i told you all of them I’d be here all day lol.

I played fistful in gzdoom with a couple extra mods. It was very fun, and also doubled as a project to learn how to place royalty free music in davinci resolve. I can't remember what mod enabled the hat toss damage feature, but it was hilarious to toss your hat at the low tier enemies and see them gib.
High Noon Drifter was the mod I played fistful with, as well as some other maps.

Thank you! It's really hard to get recommendations for MS-DOS vanilla mods and TCs. I have a special Pentium 133 laptop to play DOS games, mostly DOOM. I'll absolutely must check StarDoom and Fistful mods! Also HacX is pretty nice, though needs fixing save file names to properly work. P.S. If you wish to clear MS-DOS shell - use CLS command. Mashing Return key looks silly.

Tried playing the batman wad again and all the characters keep swapping models and the gun animations are all mixed up, not sure how i got it to work before.

Make sure you load the .deh file as well as the .wad, hopefully that's all that's wrong. (if it's too much trouble, you could use a port like Chocolate Doom which is more straightforward!)
