A jovial man, musician, God fearing, a man of the people, one of Africa's great leaders...the list can go on and on for the first president of Zambia. At 89 years old now, Kenneth Kaunda is one of the living legends in Africa.

"The Embassy of the United States of America joins the Zambian people and the international community in mourning the passing of His Excellency Kenneth Kaunda, the first president of the Republic of Zambia. We extend to his family and the people of Zambia our condolences. President Kaunda is known to the Zambian people as the Founding Father and Liberator of the Republic of Zambia. He was steadfast in uniting Zambia's 73 tribes through his commitment to “One Zambia, One Nation.” He advocated against discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS and was a tireless advocate for the poor and marginalized. We honor his memory and his service to the people of Zambia and across Africa. We mourn his passing. May his soul rest in eternal peace."

As someone born to Namibian parents taken in by Zambia during our liberation struggle I want to say thank you sir for the help you gave to liberate my country. I used to be ashamed that my birth place on my birth certificate is a camp in Zambia, I never understood why my parents didn't write down Lusaka or any city in Zambia like other parents had, now I know it is as a reminder that there were Africans out there who cared for their brothers and sisters enough to take them in, and help them attain freedom. My heart will forever be drawn to Zambia (Zambian by birth, Namibian by descend). I hope we the younger generations can learn from leaders like Dr Kenneth Kaunda (a real servant of the people) and hopefully take the dreams they had for Africa and turn them into reality.

@Mwaniki Mwaniki, agree, Indians treat Africans like garbage when they go to India, they also treat Africans this way on the continent, I live in America and trust me, they think they are superior to Blacks every where. Socially, I find them very awkward people Lastly, have you noticed ALL of a sudden how all these foreigners want to profess their love for Africa and its culture? They all know that there's a new Scramble for Africa and its resources, China, the U S, Russia and Europe are all trying to get ahead of each other for favor. My concern is that the population of Africa is so young they are now very easily persuaded and impressionable. Many of them are buying into this new western/Chinese propaganda of "We Are All One people in the world"...and "Africa is for the world". This is very dangerous for a number of reasons, the majority of people on the continent still are not prospering from the resources within each Nation. Before Africa or any country on that continent to start saying we welcome everyone they first need to make sure that their country and its citizens are all very economically and educationally prosperous.

The reason why Gandhi at first supported the caste system because that was the customs and traditions he found himself in, not that he chose it. Second, when he was young he was racist due to his English education, Britain didn't really have a high opinion of their colonial subjects and were taught that their civilisation was far superior. So unconisly he practice that biase, until his own mistreatment in south Africa, along with the Indian who live there. When time grew older he began to mature and changed those views during his struggle for India independence. He saw that in order to free India from the British, every Indians, regardless of caste, religion or professions, should unite to fight for their freedom. He was even willing to work with the muslims,Sikhs and Christians, and the untouchables ( the black Indians). He even adopted one an untouchable orphan girl as his daughter to the surprise of his family and close friends as a sigh of rebellion to caste system, which is a complicated if your in hindu worshipper. Point is, people remember him for his believe in democracy and the use of civil disobedience and nonviolence rather than violence to achieve any human rights and stuff like that, rather than his racist past.

This was a shallow presentation of the great KK when I compare to other presentation. I don't know if this is due to shallow research or you just omitted some detailed facts. It lacks real in-depth issues such as how he fought to liberate Zambia. How he helped in the fight to liberate other African countries including SA. How he handled the Zambian economy and what really led to him stepping down. The facts in the video are true but I think the focus is more on his personal life than other areas he impacted. Kaunda is a great great man please do a more in-depth research and replace this one.

KK - as he is affectionately known, led Zambia from 1964 to 1991. Kenneth Kaunda and the late Julius Nyerere (Tanzania), Nelson Mandela (African National Congress: ANC), Oliver Tambo, Sam Nujoma (South West Africa People's Ororganization of Namibia), and Robert Mugabe (Liberation Front of Mozambique: FRELIMO) worked tirelessly to liberate the continent and Southern Africa in particular from European Colonialism of the Remainance of the British Empire and against Apartheid (Jim Crow Segregation Laws) of the All-White Fascist Dutch Afrikaaner Regime of the Boers.
@tulifranz93366 жыл бұрын
The gentleman who said President Kaunda remind him of Gandhi , may I say it is not fair to compare the two. Gandhi did support the cast system in India. In South Africa he openly was against the black population. He had a rude awakening in South Africa. The regime did not accept the Indians as their equal. Please look for Dr Anamalai clips in You Tube.
