To us, she was a Liberator. That is what we needed at the time, a Liberator not a Saint. She may have had imperfections (who didn't?), but she was perfect for her role in liberating us - her People! RIP Mama

The thought that we as African we carry that in 1994 Afrika was free at last is or was a lie. We have never being free, our oppressor changed the faces of white man with that of a black man, Why was people like Chris Hani, Samora Machel, PLO Lemumba, Thomas Sankara , Mohammed Ghaddafi,Robert Mogabe ,Tafewa Balewa, just to mention the few this are true leaders that Afrika had who were to put the wealth of this continent in the hands of the people. Only puppets live to continue with the agenda of the europeans. The white man was afraid of this strong woman during apartheid what more during so called democracy she will crash them by her voice or sight in public, So a smear campaign was their solution to silence her and to separate her from Nelson so that she cannot keep an eye on Nelson. If Winnie was never separated from Nelson and had a voice in this country during Democracy the economy might have being transferred and the likes of Ramaphosa might have not seen the light of the day.

In African languages we don't have words like "saint" and "sinner". These are translations of foreign words. Therefor, Winnie was a warrior, a die-hard African warrior on par with the likes of Queen Nzhinga and we salute her 👏 May her soul rest in peace and her spirit live in those left behind to continue the struggle. Mandela betrayed this woman.basically she contributed much in the fight against apartheid as compared to mandela. It's so sad that most south africans have been brainwashed by the oppressor to believe that Mam Winnie was a murderer, No1 goes clean if we are to analyse the apartheid period, the oppressor had weapons guns...poor winnie and her people had no choice but to fight the oppressor by burning them . Lovelm Purple I disagree, they were long since divorced, you leave your family and your wife in your will, if this was any other person I don't think you would be saying that, if some other man and woman were married no matter how many children she gave him or whatever and they finally got divorced and when he died many years later he didn't leave her money you would not be saying that that's unfair And she didn't really go through all of that for him if you think about if she did it for herself if anything she used him to bolster her own self and she was out for all those years able to do whatever she wants and cheat on him meanwhile benefiting off of his name and his calls while he was rotting in jail
@lovelmpurple1191

zahra shah That's your opinion. But I still say she did sacrifice for him. She went to jail got beaten, humiliated, been isolated from family and friends, as well as banished to a place with people she did not know, because she wanted attention come on that's to far fetched. She was the main voice to get him out of jail. As well as being targeted herself. And being separated from her kids. As far as the cheating go well I won't say that's right, but he was locked away for 30 years she is human. She just suppose to be celibate for 30 years Come on. They did grow apart after he came out of jail but they had been separated for so long the damage has been done. But she sacrificed a lot for him he could have left her something to appreciate that even if they were not married anymore.

@zararoyce319 7 жыл бұрын
Colin Roach you just said it, you leave it for who you want and he didn't want to leave her anything, and that is right, whatever you would do ethically or morally is your business with your money. But he didn't over anything and he had every right to choose not to leave her anything. Keep in mind that we don't know very much about went on between them privately on a personal level you have absolutely no idea of how much she already benefit it off of him informally and how much dislike and the trail might've gone on between the two of them, furthermore, if she had died before him and she had some money this wouldn't even be a discussion right now you wouldn't even be telling me that she should've left him money if it was the other way around
@zararoyce319
@zararoyce319 7 жыл бұрын
Colin Roach and try not to be such a hypocrite, if you get in the way of a vicious Golddigger who sucks you dry and benefits off of you for years and years and you finally break free you should think long and hard whether or not you would want to leave her anything either. She's also very lavish in her ways it's not like he left her dying in a ditch as well that's something also to Be considered, if she wants to go around with tons of ladies maids and an army of bodyguards for probably more than he ever had etc. then that's her business and she needs to find that

Wow. This woman was amazing. It’s not a question of whether she was a saint or a sinner, no one in this world could claim to be neither at a time. In those days certainly the line between good and bad had long been blurred by competing forces surrounding what aught to be done vs what was necessary to do. I understand why Nelson Mandela needed to distance himself from her. Fundamentally, they both had similar ideologies, however they each lived through different experiences under the same regime, and these created opposing approaches to overcoming the evil. Madiba felt the necessity for the ANC to come out blameless because he understood the importance of mediation and he was sensitive to the scrutiny of the international community. Esp during that time. Winnie, was very quickly disillusioned by the idea that white supremacists could genuinely untangle themselves from the sense of entitlement to oppressing black people (which let’s be honest is a whole other kind of struggle in itself even to this very day). For the overall future, integrity and legacy of SA, like Tata, I have to be an optimist and believe that somehow blacks and whites (and all other races in 🇿🇦 ) will together work towards inching the socioeconomic gap. Granted, this sort of hope will see us living decades (I pray not centuries!) in a SA still rife with the aftershocks from apartheid. Nevertheless, a move toward swift radicalism will quickly land us Zim status, whom we under appropriate lighting tend to strike a disturbingly similar resemblance to. Winnie was underrated, we could have benefited from her brilliant mind. I do wish though, that the example that President Nelson Mandela was trying to set had been paid careful attention to, and learnt from by the recent party leaders when he stepped in to release Winner off of her duties. More evidence of his exquisite character. I can only imagine the internal turmoil he must have felt, probably not comparable to the hurt and disappointment Winnie experienced. This documentary was clearly biased in so many ways and it was easy to see through.

In the history of Africa in at least the twentieth century, no woman has sacrificed so much in the struggle for the independence of any nation. Therefore in my humble opinion, Winnie earned the right to be recognised as Mama Africa not just the mother of South Africa for the following reasons. Winnie had the option to sell out or live off the comfort her publicity afforded but she chose either and remained faithful to the very end. Viva Winnie, viva Africa!!!!....this is from a Nigerian with no affiliation with South Africa.

No matter what fake news, propaganda or mis-information that is being put out there by white people or black puppet agents to tarnish the "image" of this GREAT ICON and LIBERATOR, it will NOT change our perspective of recognizing Winnie Mandela as one of the most respected human being that has ever walk on this planet. The memory of the righteous is blessed (Prov. 10 vs 7-Christian Bible). What could be more scandalous when the ANC under the leadership of Nelson Mandela negotiated with the leader of the white supremacists in south afrika DeClerk to retain the economic apartheid status quo (white control over the economy, control of the land and mineral resources in it) in exchange for token political positions, pursuing a “forget the past” policy via the fraud “Truth and Reconciliation” committee. to exonerate AND appease the white psychopaths of their crimes against black people, admitting the white psychopath Dirk Coetzee (the commander of a Police death squad) that was responsible for the murder and death of many black freedom fighters in SA to join the ANC and the ANC betraying the people in their struggle by putting the corporate interests of the architects of apartheid above the main objective of liberating south afrika from the tentacles of white supremacy ??? .On the matter of reconciliation is it the Creator who reconciles him/herself with the sinner/transgressor or is it NOT the duty of the sinner/transgressor to reconcile (make things right) with the Creator ? To pursue unity at all cost to appease one's oppressor without some form of compensation (reparatory justice) is an act of wickedness and betrayal to the victims of exploitation/oppression. What is the right to vote worth without ECONOMIC POWER ??? What is the right to vote worth without ECONOMIC POWER ??? What is the right to vote worth without ECONOMIC POWER ??? Political independence without economic power is independence without substance. What can you do with a dead battery ???

I think for smoother transition Mandela conformed to the white way of doing business and advancing politically, when the blood of the black people that was shed needed to be vindicated in the form of uncompromising return of what was rightfully theirs from the start! There is no way had the shoe been on the other foot, the white ppl would have continued suffering! Had Winnie become president however, she would have brought to the table the understanding of the suffering ppl and made reform to address that! She was amongst them all along as a witness to their daily suffering with a heart of compassion and a determination to make things better for all. The video I saw of a propagandist who worked for the then regime, Paul Erasmus, brought clarity to me. Men when they have power in their sight can go to the lowest of lows to obtain it! She is innocent. It was said that the entire football club were informants... who knows they were probably worried that stomp is who was one of them would break and tell Winnie, so he was proported by them to be the informer and killed him so that their own betrayal of Winnie would die with him.. true or not, God is the revealer of the heart and the truth will all come out , I believe to the vindication of this great woman! God bless her!

From South Africa and just so we are not mistaken. She never helped free Nelson. The same people who put him in are the same people that got him out. He was destined to run South Africa like Thabo Mbeki regardless of what you think. Nelson was the Queens puppet as with Thabo Mbeki and Desmond Tutu all of which where Knighted into the Knights of Malta in the Order of St Johns but besides that..... Nelson was also a worshipful master at the Prince Hall lodge. They are all just part of a greater plan and here you people are raving about what exactly? A female puppet?

Sheila Meintjes you got to credit her midst your negative comments. She had no time to be prim and proper, are you aware of prison arrests and her struggle against the evil inhumane behavior of the apartheid regime towards her She paid a high price for her husband's release and keeping his name alive during his imprisonment. Brave woman admire her

Plus she was 20 years younger than him. Not surprised, she probably found men her age were not stimulating enough for her. He was 20yrs older and spent 27yrs of his prime years in jail. What did anyone expect? And Mandela was shielded from the ugly terror of every day life in black South Africa, because he was locked up in a jail on an Island. He didn't see the violence, so he would be more ready to forgive.

I wonder why there is not a single story like this narrated, of those who made Winnie's life so traumatic. I mean those who jailed her husband for fighting for black liberation. Are they saints or sinners? I trust that one day we'll see true justice and fairness in South Africa . Sheila Mentjies has audacity to speak as if she comes from a generation of saints and a saint herself .

Liberations movements in Africa always forget the plights of African people after they have secured the power. One example is ANC in South Africa, few black people and majority of whites are the ones enjoying the new South Africa.

Truth be told Winnie was there when we needed a saviour and when Mandela was in prison she was there for him. And if she wasn't there we could be talking differently & having lot's of regrets so she took our regrets & we were liberated just like Jesus sacrificed his life for us to be liberated from our sins of regrets. Kudos mama Winnie R.I.P

To answer your question, Winnie is a saint! If I was Mandela at the time, I would let all those hearings take place. But, I would ultimately pardon her and I would not divorce her. And, I think it was a mistake not to include her in the will, for a man who had the guts to forgive the real evil people, I think Mandela got it wrong on Winnie. Some people are not worthy of hurting regardless of their mistakes, let’s be fair. WINNIE IS AN AFRICAN HERO, PERIOD!

Ofcourse there are people who will look at her faults both the real ones and the manufactured and point fingers. Still, I choose to remember her as the fearless Queen she was. and one day they will build statues of Winnie Mandela in every country in every corner in S.A, and everywhere else in Africa.

Pigou, (political analyst) does not make much sense to me. Winnie did not want the house because she had no money, that house has a story, in which her life is reflected. It was not about the money, and by the way, I was hoping to see some black analysts comment on this, but then I remembered that most of the commenters are whites because they had the privilege to a better education.

The Mandela ANC paid and pays heavily for discrediting and sidelining Winnie Madikizela. With Winnie in the leadership the eye would NEVER have veered off the people. Dropping Winnie, Mandela's ANC dropped its heart and lost its soul.
