Nevada is home to 28 federally recognized Native American Tribes, Bands and Colonies, which bring impactful contributions and culture to our communities. The nearest Tribes to Thacker Pass are the Fort McDermitt Shoshone and Paiute Tribes and the Duck Valley Shoshone and Paiute Tribes. At Lithium Americas, we are proud of our commitment to employing locally to the greatest extent possible. Tribe members were among the first locals to be hired at Thacker Pass, through our contractor Sawtooth Mining.
Lithium Americas is advancing Thacker Pass Phase 1 toward production, targeting nameplate capacity of 40,000 tonnes per annum of battery-quality lithium carbonate. Thacker Pass is located in Humboldt County, northern Nevada. The Company and its engineering, procurement and construction management contractor, Bechtel, entered into a National Construction Agreement (Project Labor Agreement) with North America’s Building Trades Unions for construction of Thacker Pass. The three-year construction build is expected to create approximately 1,800 direct jobs.
