@michaelhubbard5246 Well, no US President is a dictator, benevolent or otherwise. Imo, Carter lived these words from Christ his whole life: "He who would be great among you must be your servant. He who would be the first must be your slave just as the Son of Man has come not to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many." Carter was such a leader.

What a decent human being President Carter was. While on a layover at hartsfield airport late September 2001( jst aft 9/11) he and Rosalyn boarded our plane and he proceeded to greet and shake hands with Everyone on that flight. His work with Habitat FH etc. This Man lived a century for many reasons surely. One of if not the main reason was, he had Love in his heart!! I remember this speech. It was called the malaise speech and it was not well received. It put him on the path to losing his reelection bid. People want to be praised by our leaders, not preached to was the response. Ever since the politicians just tell the people what they want to hear.

Yes he did a lot of work in the Middle East , especially in Iran. Giving them our embassy and US hostages for 444 days without repercussions sure brought down OPEC. Waiting in gas lines for hours taught oil producers a lesson they didn’t forget. Did you know that the supreme leader of Iran planned the attack and the 6the president of Iran led the attack?

I am a PROUD Republican... but I say to you. This, was a GOOD man. God bless Jimmy Carter. I disagree with a few things he did. Our country need NOT be dependant on foreign countries for oil. We have enough for ourselves, and could still sell to others. But he did so MUCH for the people of the United States AFTER his term in office, and the world, while in office, ex. The SALT negotiations and his Nobel peace prize for his efforts. A devout Christian, his peers would call him a republican today. Never the less, I call him, a PATRIOT.

In saying this in 1979 Carter was the President of the USA. Today, its the language of a non-mainstream media host. In 1979 the average US citizen could have changed the situation democratically. Today, well I hesitate to spell out the options, but the democratic process is not one of those...

History may be repeating itself. Like the 1st century BC and the slow demise of the Roman Republic after Rome's wealthiest citizens had begun to fight amongst themselves for control of it's representative government (the Senate). Started with the murders of the Gracchi brothers who had become hero's to the proletariat but who's land reform measures were seen as a threat to the wealthy and their friends in the senate (the Optimates). The brothers were attempting to protect the proletariat from the greedy land grabs of Rome's wealthiest citizens many of whom were senators. To protect their fortunes the wealthy worked to polarize the people and the Senate into the Optimates (supporting the interests of the wealthy) and the Populares (supporting the interests of the people). The republic that had lasted nearly 500 years would eventually fall after control was wrested from the senate by a certain wealthy general, Julius Caesar. Caesar began on the side of the Populares and supported the republic but came to distrust the senate when, along with their favored generals, they began to threaten him and his fortune. Most of the people continued to see Caesar as their hero but he would be the driving force that would eventually bring down their beloved republic. Caesar would work to convince the people that only he, and not the senate, could save them. The struggle to wrest control of the government from the senate would eventually cost Caesar his life. The senate however, would not recover from the infighting. Thereafter control would be handed to a succession of dictators, most of whom were psychopaths, sociopaths, perverts, pathetically inept and even insane. Emperors like Tiberius, Caligula, Commodus, Nero, Domitian, Elagabalus and Caracalla would each take their turn hammering nails into Rome's coffin. Rome which had lasted 750 years up to that point would slowly erode over the next 400 years. The reign of Commodus (180 - 192 AD) would be the final nail in Rome's coffin. Although Rome would linger for another two hundred years after Commodus the die had been cast. Sadly, once a republic is replaced by a dictator it can never be restored short of revolution or devastating war (as we saw most recently with the Weimar republic and the Nazis). Although our government will work to make it appear as if the people and the proletariat still control the government America's future will, in reality, soon be decided by it's wealthy industrialists. For our democracy to have a chance America must recognize that it's greatest enemies are within. We can start by ending all lobbying and political contributions and repealing Citizens United.
