Faces of the dead gone but not forgotten

On Friday, February 24, 2012, at approximately 5:30 p.m, the Belvidere community was turned upside down. Brenda Gutierrez, 16, and Thalia Arredondo, 16, were traveling south bound on Rt 76 on their way to a basketball game.
The girls lost control of their car and went into the north bound lane, striking an oncoming SUV. Both girls died at the scene.

Thalia C. Arredondo, 16, of Loves Park, IL died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, from injuries sustained in a car accident.
She was born March 10, 1995, in Rockford, IL loving daughter of Salvador and Rachel (nee Vance) Arredondo. Thalia was a junior at Belvidere North High School she was on the cheerleading squad. She was also a member of St. James Catholic Church, Belvidere, IL. In her spare time, she enjoyed tumbling, swimming and choreography.

Brenda Y. Gutierrez, 16, of Poplar Grove, IL died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
She was born May 20, 1995, in Elgin, IL loving daughter of Jaime and Rosario (nee Hernandez) Gutierrez. Brenda was a junior at Belvidere North High School, where she was on the cheerleading squad. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Redeemer in Elgin. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.
