The people there do not want a marker there mainly because they don't want it to be a tourist destination; especially people coming at night, paranormal folks, vandals, etc. I get it.

Maria Keller, who was later suspected of suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness, shoots her husband in the heart, fatally wounds their infant daughter whose lung was punctured, and shoots herself in the temple.

During the night of March 19, 1874, a man with an axe entered the Stelzriede family's home in an unincorporated area outside of Millstadt called Saxtown. Five mutilated bodies were discovered the next day by a neighbor who stopped by to borrow some potato seed.
The dead were Carl Stelzriede, age 70; his son Friederic "Fritz" Stelzriede, age 25; Fritz's wife, Anna Stelzriede; and their children, Karl, age 3; and Anna, 7 months old.

Ron, it only takes a few to ruin it for everyone. Most people are respectful and wouldn’t even think of trespassing or vandalizing or harming someone’s gravesite, property, etc, but then you have the heathen that have no reverence for anything or anyone and just don’t care.

Such a sad story. Wonderful to see the barn still standing. Love old barns. So much history in them. The stones from the cabin and the door frame with the hardware, amazing. I myself bought an old solid wood door with the original hardware, had the layers of paint professionally stripped off to the beautiful wood and had it put on for my back door. Love it.

It reminds me of the Villisca Axe Murders. Different time period, 1912 or so but that was another family murdered in their beds by some maniac with an axe. They never solved that murder either.

I agree pearl, I know they don’t want the bodies moved but surely they could move the stone…unless it’s to old and moving it may crack the stone. It’s a shame there isn’t some kind of stone or a small plaque that states they are there..time goes on stories forgotten there may come a day when no one recalls the grave stone mix up.

I think the murdered family will be more at peace with a memorial stone with their names on could be moved to where they lay..a memorial stone where they don't lay doesn't make sense..it's easier than moving 5 bodies to the memorial stone but to move the stone to their bodies would put them more at peace I'm sure and they will never be forgotten then ❤

There is another story like this one When eight innocent people lost their lives in a single night, the usually-quiet, uneventful town of Villisca, Iowa, changed forever in June 1912. The perpetrator viciously murdered the Moore family and their two house guests with an axe. Suspects and confessions have come forward, and even trials were held, but, ultimately, the person responsible for the barbaric crimes remains unknown. The shed reminded me of my grandpa's barn, I remember the beams and the wasps and how nice it was to hang out there during the summer, with the smell of fresh hay and the birds chirping. To us it seems harsh, but they had a rough life back then, no wonder this sort of tragedy would occur. May their souls rest in peace!

This is such an interesting story. I remember reading a news paper article from back when this tragedy happened and they stated that the father Carl had a clump of red hair in his hand. I think the guy who was going to lose his property to Carl did the deed along with his handy man who was handy with an axe. However, even if those men had red hair there was no way to prove it was their hair without DNA. Good job on this story Ron. Sad that family doesnt have any gravemarkers.👍👍👍❤❤

Ron, if there is anyone who can get their memorial stone moved from the other cemetery to their final resting place it would be you and Deb. Even though they are resting in eternal Heavenly Peace they need to be memorialized forever in the cemetery. Their story needs to be told and their memories kept alive. It is absolutely sickening that the monster responsible for this brutal, vicious, deplorable act got to live their life without paying for their crime. Phenomenal episode. I know a little of this story from a German family in Chicago. It's a tragedy that has been kept alive in passed down stories. Such a tragedy. Rest forever in peace. That Barn is awesome knowing what kind of tools they had back then and the way it was constructed it's beautiful I've never known that if you cut the branches down to build something when it's green and you build it as this Barn is that doesn't rot I mean that Barn is 157 years old it is in unbelievable condition and only using pegs to pulled it together hello from the outside those boards look almost so perfect that's a beautiful piece of carpentry and with the family I think it's kind of crappy that they never caught the person what's even worse if I understood it right the brother got a three inheritance had the stone made it was taken to a different Cemetery he couldn't pay somebody to bring it to this one to put on the graves or he couldn't have brought in here I think that's kind of really appalling did you have a whole family being murdered the left lane in the house for days do because of the roads at the time kind of understandable not understandable with so many people being intrigued by a family killing then they laid in coffins for a while only to be buried and cannot have a headstone to be remembered by and the tragedy that happened I find that really really disappointing and awful but I guess at least they're buried together so I hope they are resting in peace

This is the COOLEST video I have seen in a looonnng time peeps! I live for historic walk thru’s and with actual artifacts is extraordinary. I learned so much and had no idea it was so horrific. It would be horrific in today’s world so placing myself in the past it’s not any wonder it would be national news. We are so desensitized these days it made me think more about how these simple folk would process such a devastating act. Fascinating stuff. Thanks for diving deep into this one. Loved the journey.

I live 11 minutes from millstadt and I find it so interesting to hear about stories like this, especially since some I’ve never heard before. Ofc some of these stories are extremely tragic but they’re still so interesting and I’m glad I get to hear more of them, even years after the videos are made. This stuff is like a part of history and that’s so interesting to me
