We really enjoyed watching this drawing develop, especially the transitions from one medium to the next! We get what you mean about needing to learn new skills on your own terms, too- a lot of artists, in our experience, need to try things first hand and let the process itself do the teaching.

Your bird friend is a Common Gallinule (Gallinula galeata) they have very duck-like qualities but are not in the same taxonomic order. I absolutely love their frump dump bodies...they're precious! Thanks for the outdoor sketchbook motivation, especially with the nice post-hurricane weather. My cat has been enjoying going for leash walks more but I need to do more research on secluded walks that allow dogs/cats in Pasco.

Oh my goodness that first part GOT me. I am 100% holding myself back out of fear and I need to stop and face that. Art isn't my job; so a lot of my energy does go elsewhere - but I keep ending up in this spiral; and I know the only way out is to just push myself to do it; I just find it so hard!

It's funny seeing other artist problem that I can't relate too. For me, almost every painting or drawing I do involves facing a fear and I level up perpetually (I'm not bragging, I'm still not a pro yet) but discipline with art is impossible for me, I can't tell you how many times I've started a challenge or said that I'm just gonna focus on figure drawing or something, then quit within a week 😅 We all have unique problems and none are way worse that another, they all suck

thank you!!! i generally don't sketch on camera because it's like when someone's watching over your shoulder and suddenly you can't draw anymore!! plus it rarely shows up on camera hahaha

I really enjoyed this vlog! It was so relaxing to watch. I’ve always wanted to go outside to sketch/paint because it seems so relaxing but, for some reason, every time I try I get so much anxiety that I end up not being able to focus. I know it’s kinda dumb but, do you have any tips on how to enjoy the process? (Sorry if this is weird)

NO I TOTALLY GET YOU!! I wish I had tips but honestly I deal with this really badly as well. It's generally not relaxing at all for me, especially when I'm filming. I'm really trying to work on it, but I always feel so rushed outside! If I ever get better at it, I'll be sure to make a video about it hahah!!!

Hi Al! I have a question...how much does the Strathmore mixed media journal usually cost you in it's various sizes? I live in Ireland where Strathmore isn't readily available and I'm curious to see how much Amazon is trying to rip me off.....

I think that's a natural fear that artist have, like am I good enough. you already are. I think if you just post through it, who says it it isn't good enough to be shown in gallery's or illustration. look at what you're doing now. if you wait for that "growth" you may never see it.
