3 suggestions, 1. try to focus more on painting the light, more than trying to translate the reference 2. Studies, either in a different medium, that has the thing that you find lacking in your current work, or something basic like notans, where you focus on something like shape, composition. 3. Plein air, experience the thing you are painting forces you abstract, a photograph already loses so much of the real experience. That is something I like about you childhood picture paintings, the connection you have with them makes it more then ‘just’ a picture

It was 71F yesterday... do you want some warmth??? It's getting a little silly how warm it is where I am. Lovely spread, it would make a great Christmas card.

I love your videos so much! During one of my breaks between my finals, I saw you posted and it was like the light at the end of the tunnel for me! Keep up the good work!

Maybe you could try to use bigger brushes and a timer to get more lose and stylized paintings? At least that's what I see many people do that have those very painterly styles. But I like your spread! yes the composition of the bottom piece is very symmetrical but if you look at it as two pieces (split by the fold of the book) I think they work well individually :D
@anamariefalk37965 күн бұрын
you should join a scribble bragade or art hang party focused on landscapes, good incentive to fill pages and practice stylizing!! also being loose and fast! if anyone has any other artists that do stuff like this please shout them out!!

Necolors are fantastic to create texture on top of other medium, I love them for that purpose

i think you should try a different type of sketchbook if you're feeling stuck. i know for me at least i was drawing in the same type of book for 3 sketchbooks in a row and i didn't even bother finishing the last one. i got a completely different brand of sketchbook and i have been enjoying pretty much every page. :)

100 head challenge but somehow make something similar with landscapes instead 🤔
@anamariefalk37966 күн бұрын
Oooo yes like smaller landscapes, maybe following along with one of Sophie McPike’s landscape scribble brigades and going from there?
@fuzzydragons6 күн бұрын
maybe try a different medium, sometimes that does help to give us the push to grow as artists 😀

Just an idea… change your brush type! To get larger painterly strokes a lot of artists use a flat head brush to lay down color rather than dragging and blending with round brushes
@HarleyWithWingsКүн бұрын
THIS!!!! I only use round brushes for watercolour now.

I struggle with landscapes as well… and, I dunno, maybe this will be useful to say: Your portrait art is so full of life and personality, but your landscapes look like “background art” and not the main event, if that makes sense. Maybe that is why it comes out feeling “ho-hum”? The trick might be to think of the landscape itself as a character. What is the landscape “thinking and feeling” and how can you best show that? There is a lot of texture in your sky and in the hills, but the houses themselves are very flat, for instance… what would bring the houses to life? What is going on in them? They almost feel abandoned, dark and empty. What if there were some animals around, or a window with a light on, or a pile of wood and an ax outside? That kind of thing. I don’t think it is your technique that is making landscapes have less wow factor, but what you choose to focus on about them. Like, when you do faces, there is a smile that is intriguing, or a pattern of freckles that feels loved, or a stray hair here and there… you know what I mean? I usually do blank backgrounds because it is always about the character I’m portraying, but, I think really great landscape art loves the landscape as though it were a character, too. Of course, I say all this as an admirer of your art. 👀 Congrats on finishing your sketchbook! 🎉

Well done on finishing your sketchbook! I love what you did. I was on a roll with mine in October, but I lost steam, and I only have three pages left! I'm going to try to finish mine this week 😊 also I am the exact same as you used to be, I haven't made a finished piece or any art outside my sketchbook for a while

I used georgian, winsor newton and cobra water mixable oils. The cobra professional version is by far the best ones and the most like regular oil. I use cobras mediums. It has almost no smell. The georgian mediums has a pretty strong smell so i cant use it at home because i live in an appartment. The winsor newton artisan wm oil paint is also good. The big draw of the georgian brand is the price. Very good for the price but not good like the cobra professional but thats so much more expensive

So most printers will not printer higher than 300 dpi, unless you want some magnification to you artwork and want to print it larger than life there is no need to stress about scanning at over 300 dpi. It will just create really large files for no reason.

It's been a while since I've checked in with you and .... wow 🎉 this sounds really cool (I also got into analog fotography recently and am really excited about this) on the concern of how long it's going to take - I love it when I get back a roll of Film and not even remembering all the pictures I took - it's really like a small present and could be a interesting point in the creative process 😊

the look of those photos makes me actually miss using a point and shoot, you get a differnt look and feeling using older cameras. only problem now is trying to find a place to develop the film if you don't have a dark room :/ sounds like it could be a great collection of pieces 😀🥰

Theory for the skip, depending on the model and electronics involved in it: the skipping could be a connection missing for one of the shutter speeds. My M700 has the same issue skipping if I set it to auto/ 1000. Since it’s a damaged connection, it causes the shutter to not fire completely/ correctly at that speed.

I'm also an art business owner in Florida, I'm in the Tampa Bay area, I sell at markets, coffee shops, veterinary clinics and commissions. Are you interested in making any local art friends? I'm 27, lgbtq, and I genuinely don't know any other people interested in painting/illustration/art, and most of what I do is explore old Florida and our fun tourist locations like the zoos, botanical gardens, and aquariums here, could be fun to collaborate or just email if you're interested:)

I love this!! Painting my own photos is one of my favorite things to do, and on top of that you use film photography, which I love as well I think it’s a really great idea and it’s just so coherent with everything you’ve done and been talking about so far (like, your mom, painting your childhood photos or pics from a trip and so on) I’m looking forward to see what you’re going to create and I hope this journey brings you lots of great experiences!

Also well done on figuring out where you want to go! i have myself been interested in film photography and even did draw from someone else's photo and thoroughly enjoyed it which made me want to do my own references in film. Your background of the idea , the story of how you got there shows creativity and the deeper connection with the series - that's essential to make it work. Good luck!

This video is so fabulous. All those beautiful shots?! The scenery with the water? And the climbing onto trees? Love it. I love how you really put in the work to figure out what you want to do. Other people would have just gone with the first idea that had fun vibes (me, I‘m other people) I‘m so in for this journey and what you will create ❤✨ And I feel inspired to pursue my own comsistent body of work (this has been a weak spot for me FOR YEARS)
