I agree with the comments about not being in a place physically any longer where I can get out and do a lot of what you two do, and I thank you for taking me along to enjoy it all vicariously!

I missed this video two weeks ago … I guess KZbin didn’t want to share it with me, but I saw Todd’s photo with the Salmon and went intentionally searching for your channel and here I am. Today is October 14, 2024 @ 3:22 pm CDT and currently the temperature is 98 degrees. It has not cooled down AT ALL yet this year and we are weary. The weather guessers have said we might get some cool air arriving tomorrow or Wednesday. We are hopeful. I am so envious of your weather in the woods on this video. ❤

Our oldest son used to live in Independence, WI and he would ride a bike to Whitehall every other weekend because he loved the scenery and would stop to take pictures of nearly everything to send to us. He especially loved the old buildings in Whitehall. The architecture is beautiful. He loved bike riding up there especially in Fall and Spring. He worked at Ashley's Furniture plant up there. I've heard so many stories from there. The food culture , he stated, is very different especially crawfish. We season crawfish with lots of spice and seafood seasoning. His friends up there just boiled them plain. What a funky crawfish. Lolol I love his tales and stories while he was living up there. Btw, we live on the coast of Mississippi. Born and raised in the South. I do believe I remember Rachel saying she's from Louisiana so I know she knows how to season some crawfish and seafood in general. Have a Blessed week❣️

Wow. Campers leave all that mess? Looks like maybe they got spooked. I bet your hike was beautiful. Glad you conquered your fear.
@toddrachelАй бұрын
Yes they do. This one was the worst, they just left everything. Their tent, food, clothes, etc. Bears (or something) go into it. We called the ranger for the local USFS district and reported it. Not sure who ended up cleaning it all up. We'll gladly pickup trash, bottles, etc. but this was too much and it was nasty. We weren't touching it.

I love Whitehall area. I have done work at Alcoa. The Lighthouse is cool and the walk out to the lake is a nice walk out. I've seen deer on the state park side on the dunes. The walk out to Big Sable Lighthouse is a nice walk through more State park area. Hope you get to see those areas as well.

I have noticed, as I age, MY Fears grow too! I Make myself Face them. I have too, because they keep multiplying! Things like Driving in winter, Leaving house because it's raining, being outside when there's ice. My whole freedom and mobility requires I GO Out! I live in the Countryside and have a busted crippled leg!

I'm one of those people that can't do what you do any more, but I get great enjoyment from seeing it though the lens of your camera. I would appreciate if you mentioned on your homesteading channel when you put a video up from your visit here. YT is not good when you don't post for a while, it pushes this channel way down the list... and mine is quite extensive.

Hey, Rachel is a right hand reeler! The problem with that is you need your strong arm to pull the fish out, but then you can’t reel. Todd’s OK at the 1:12 mark. The reel is on the left. He is working the rod with his strong arm. Need to bring your 9mm with you on a potential animal fight - 2 or 4 legged. .45 works better. Just say No. Look for downed oaks for shrooms in rotten stumps. Gives you an opportunity to get off the trails. If you go later, look for deer rubs and scrapes The property looks nice cleared. Full time job though - never ending. Or brighten up the place with a new color of paint or maybe an accent wall of a different color. You can do different flooring or rugs. How’s the stairway holding up?

I do "carry" a lot in the woods on hikes, but I don't think Rachel is ok with carrying on her own. She does practice a bit so she knows how to actually use it if needed, but she leaves the carrying to me for now 😃

When I hike, I take an air horn. I never want to be close enough to a bear to use the spray, and am concerned about the way the wind may blow. Just a thought!!
@wendyr435Ай бұрын
Yeah I’m with you, bears are a NO for me. It’s the one thing I always worry about when camping in the mountains. I’m glad you faced your fear but I would not do that lol, that’s just me. Hoping Todd can retire soon. 😊

You might want to explain to your marshmallow neighbor that she isn't helping the bears by feeding them. That sets them up to think of humans as a source of food, and even a gentle black bear could get aggressive with a human who is 'marshmallowless' . And a bear who has been habituated to thinking of food coming from humans will be less able to find food for itself in the wild, and will get itself in trouble by being a public nuisance, eventually having to be put down by wildlife management officials. Believe me, that's not something that those folks, or anyone, wants to have to do, but it's a reality. Rachel, if you carry a loud whistle or fairly large bell of some kind, bears will be scared by that loud noise and run. I have bears on my property in VT, and they occasionally get into my compost, so I am aware of them. I also have a guest who stays in my cabin up in back in late summer, so she wears a whistle around her neck (and also sings!). Much easier to access than the bear spray. If they come near your cabin, bang two pans together loudly from your porch--they will leave, and you don't have to be close to them to do that. Good luck, and I totally get your nervousness, bears are big animals! 🌻

Probably not grizzlies, though, but you don’t have those there.

Didn't know you had 2 channels. And idk why you tubers have 2 channels. Doesn't 1 keep you busy enough?
@toddrachelАй бұрын
Two different audiences really. If you branch our on a single channel too far, it ends up hurting you in the long run. Keep a channel somewhat focused on one thing, like Homesteading adds value. Thus a second channel for all the things we do while away from the homestead.
@fincarosa6767Ай бұрын
@toddrachel didn't know this!! Must be an algorithm thing!! Good to know. I'd watch your other channel regardless, though. Thanks for the clarification!! I've saw others do it and wondered why.
@alamryfarms754Ай бұрын
I’ve heard that KZbin really would prefer channels stick to their niche which is why you see a lot do this.
