In watching this video, and many others related in content to these poor neglected equines, I think it is due to the lack of knowledge of basic care of such animals. To drive a car requires a driving licence, so why not make it contingent on owning an equine to have passed a test in equine health requirements, stabling, feeding etc. before even contemplating purchasing or looking after even what is called "a pasture pet".

This sucks foe everyone involved, but just like Dr. Kristen said, you didin’t breed her and you’re not just using her for her foal, you’re trying to salvage an impossible situation and doing your best. I enjoy watching your videos. Live in a farming town and used to live on a farm where they had one horse. I miss coming home and giving Cece treats after she listened to my day. lol. I support a rescue here that truely is a no kill shelter. I have adopted 2 cats from Tammy who runs the rescue. She knows where all of her rescues are. I say that because my girl Miriam is being treated for asthma, her biological son Basil is being treated for stage 3 kidney disease, and my rescue Noah James who has the urinary crystals. Sadly I may have to make a decision on Basil sooner than later. But that said all of Miriam’s girls are well in their adopted homes. I enjoy your videos and am learning tons blessings to all of you this Christmas.

Maybe Bubbles was very difficult to trim and the shoers around there couldn’t deal with it and the elderly couple didn’t know how to find anyone who could trim her. Then they got overwhelmed with illness and death.She may be continue to be tough to trim but if she stays at Pony Tales a while and Paulie gets to trim her on a regular basis, she will eventually realize trims, done on a regular basis, are no big deal.

I think it’s a shame that people come to the comment section to criticize or drag Pauly for how he does his job. They forget that the reason he might have to approach things aggressively or in a way that non-Ferriers might misinterpret as violent or possibly harming the horses is because the owners of these horses neglected or mistreated their animals. He is trying very hard to remedy things that “stupid people” did not do as the caretakers for these animals. I admire Pauly and the entire Pony Tail crew for their commitment to helping these animals. ❤

I’ve watched this channel a lot. I have never seen Pauline even begin to lose his cool, whatever the horse has done. At times I’ve watch and and yelled, “Ouch!” because you know that really hurt. But Pauline is stoic and never even yells at the horse whereas I would’ve given a very firm, very audible response to what a horse may have done. Go Pauline! Stay strong and safe!

once was there when a farrier got a pony mare like this little grey one. Yes, it might look "aggressive" but they have to start somewhere to correct those feet and the poor thing cannot stand well on 3 legs with those hoofes. Watch how she lifts the other hoof on her own when the first is finished? In the case I watched, the owner had just bought the little mare with foal aside from some fishy guy and refused to give the name otherwise the farrier would have gone after work to beat the crap out of that ex owner. Poor pony must have stayed in a mucky stable during pregnancy and foaling for months until her hoofes grew to ram horns. After trimming her she walked proudly and happy and not at all wild or sassy. Farriers work ist tough and often risky. Yet, they are desperately needed and the good ones deserve respect.

It’s so hard for these poor horses to stand for their hoof work when their feet are so bad. I’ve oftened wondered if a sling would help for some just to take the pressure off the other three feet and make it easier for Paul at all. I just know he is carrying that extra weight to help them through. He has achieved such miracles with so many of these horses it would be awful if he got hurt too badly.
@R.a.p.h.a.e.l.a8 ай бұрын
Yes, the thought has occurred to me too, but I suspect that putting a horse or pony in something like a cattle crush would be a recipe for blind panic and they might injure themselves if they go crazy trying to get free. But yes, it's really hard on the farrier. Especially with a pony as tiny as Bubbles where he has to bend down so far to even reach the foot.
@kezzen39308 ай бұрын
@R.a.p.h.a.e.l.a the stocks etc are similiar but im picturing something more like a very wide heavy duty girth that could be hitched upwards to take weight off the horses feet. Problem would be would it be too scary for the horse (especially as in a rescue you never know if they have any training at all.) I've seen similiar things used for paralysis tick recovery in Australia. It goes under the horses belly allowing them to stand on their feet and have better circulation or physio. They use the tynes on a fork to lift it. Only enough to take the horses weight while it stands. The trick would be they would need a quick release if it went wrong but if they have less traction its harder to kick generally.

This horse mom may not be able to speak words, but they love their children too, and giving the babies a chance at life is always a good mother's goal, sacrifice or not! Unless the mother is so bad health wise that she's beyond tolerating living, it's always worth giving that baby a chance to survive.

I dare anyone to " rake you over the coals" for trying to save the foal and hopefully Janice too. I don’t want anyone or animal to suffer, or to be honest insect. I said before, though pain is hard to define. I have kidney failure and nerve damage in my remaining kidney after a nephrostomy bag. I get renal colic, according to the doctor, one of the worst pains you can get. I will be honest when it started, I didn't think I could live in such horrendous pain. Now, I had forgotten what being pain free is, until I recently had a spinal anaesthetic. Being in pain is my " normal" the same as for Janice. She is on pain medication and I am sure now far more "comfortable" than she's been for months. Hopefully clogs will help too. You are doing exactly the right thing trying to save the foal, and who knows, once its born miracles do happen. On my previous post I was told I was naive, but I am definitely not so. I havent reached almist sixty years old without seeing miracles happen and I am praying for one for Janice xx

Poor little girl, she is so sweet even with everything going on, it is always hard to believe in humanity when I see such a thing. But on the other hand, I see you people and I know there is still good. Bubbles I hope that little pony will be much better now and the bones, legs and hoove structures can finally heal. They will surely be sore for a while till they get used to having much better fitting shoes now. Lucky they are still fairly young with 10, raises the chance for the hooves and bones to get back into form after some time.

I was thinking the same thing. I used to have goats and most of them would let me trim their feet no problem, but I had a few wild ones I would lock in my homemade milking stand and get someone to help hold them still. If I didn't have anyone, I'd tie their feet to the legs of the stand and untie and retie each one as I work on it. Building a little stock would work better for horses to keep them from swinging to the side, and I think wood would be strong enough for such a little horse. You could build it like a milking stand with sides so they'd even be raised up a bit to help save your back.
