I usually watch your videos while doing some chores, but I was so tense with that mare being down in the trailer that I could not concentrate on anything else. I even teared up a bit when she finally managed to climb out of there. Some people criticise you that the trailer was overcrowded, but honestly, it is impossible to prevent every accident. If the horse managed to go down when surrounded by other horses, it would have went down when surrounded by empty space. You always do your best, it is clear that the animals are the priority. Not everything can be perfect, especially when you deal with sick, injured, neglected horses. As for Big John, the horse that was returned... I'm sorry, but I can't help but feel judgemental about the people who adopted and returned him. He was returned because of his body condition, when it's clear that it was caused by his teeth, and rude pasturemates. The adopters could have called a vet out to do the teeth, and make sure he gets his share of food, perhaps fence off some space for him, but instead he was just dropped like hot coal. What kind of attitude is that? Why get a horse, if you are unwilling to pay to get their teeth done, and spend a bit more time on working out a solution for the pasture and food? It's really disappointing, when people get animals, expecting them to be perfect, and then are wholly unprepared, or unwilling to deal with with any problems that are bound to happen sooner or later.

This video was full on! I was getting knots in my stomach over the horse down in the trailer and trying to get those big guys out without her getting injured by them. It was obvious to me that the other horses were aware of her being down and it looked like they were doing all they could to not step on her which is compassion which tell me animals don't have compassion for each other and I will beg to differ. So happy that it turned out ok. Then the intake with the vet, the problems with those, and last but not least, what to do with this pregnant draft mare when her foal is most probably going to come in 60 days or so. Hard decision for you guys for sure! I guess all you can do to try and preserve the tiny life in her is get Paulie to do some sort of cushioning for those feet, check x-ray again to see where that nail is, and give her pain relief and see how it goes. All of us who watch know that even with the foal being fairly close to being born, if you KNOW the mama is suffering , you will go to last act of kindness. That will be really tough but it may become necessary. We will all say some prayers for her and her baby and for your guys as well.

I love the pregnant mare, she has such a gentle face and manner. I am praying having the foal will give her a "new step on life," like Dave said. Hopefully, Pauly can work his magic, and between getting her hooves better and medication, her pain will be much better. I have really severe chronic pain due to a degenerative spine and kidney failure. Along with so much else wrong too. I had totally forgotten what being pain free was until a recent spinal anaesthetic. Being in pain is my norm, and despite the pain I would say I have a good quality of life, due to (thank goodness) good pain medication. A doctor actually said to me that if I was a horse, they would shoot me as so much is wrong. Yet as I said, when you live with chronic pain, you forget in a while what pain free is. The mare will be the same bless her. I bet she never had pain killers until you thankfully rescued her. I definitely wouldn't want her suffering but I am certainly praying she can recover enough to at least raise her foal. Also that Pauly adopts her ( what's one more Pauly with the herd you have already 😂) He can help her feet, and there can be a Go fund me for pain medication costs. Oh if only it can be that simple! I just wish I was in the USA and could adopt her. Thanks again for the fabulous work you all do.
@ninakaiser29308 ай бұрын
Your post really touched my heart. Especially that pain becomes the norm. I hear and feel you! Four years ago I had an emergency slipped disc surgery. There the spinal cord was severely injured. Since then I need to use a wheelchair and have experienced pain like I never did before. And like I never thought even existed. And yet you learn to live with it if you choose to continue to. Just recently I founded a support group for people with chronic pain. At least now I can turn around everything I have learned as a nurse of 16 years - and as a „patient“ myself. I wish you all the best for your future!
@jeaninejones43828 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you about chronic pain. I have something wrong in all three parts of my spine. I live on heavy duty pain meds. I have acid reflux and can’t take over the counter pain or anti-inflammatory medication.I sometimes get to the point where I don’t feel the severity until I’m past the point that meds work best. You may find with bute Big Mamma can raise the baby. I will pray for the best outcome for both.
@s.b.52598 ай бұрын
It's cute that you're optimistic but her situation isnt fixable. She will never be pain free. She doesn't have the capacity to think ahead about raising a foal. All she knows is the present, and her present is suffering.

I hate to admit it but I have a friend that drives a truck for kill buyers and he's had horses once on his truck he was taking down to the border. The buyer is based in California where he had to go pick up his truck. He goes mostly to feed lots from auctions and then from lots to slaughter pens but mostly cattle and pigs he gets on the trailer and the once he had horses he was confused and didn't realize they were going for slaughter.. he said they looked bad and didn't think they were going for food but maybe dog food or glue in Mexico . This was B4 I found out about all this stuff. Like a month or so B4 I started watching HPHS and B4 pony tales got the grant and started this channel. I've been around a long time apparently. Award for dedication goes to me lol

That was a heavy episode damn... not always a good day in the horse rescue. At least more beautiful souls saved. Hope the draft that went down in the trailer is alright and doing well. Sometimes you only know when you let some days pass to see if they are in any kind of pain. The hedgehog was such a cuty! We got some when I worked at the vet, but they often were in such bad condition that we couldn't do much than remove the ticks and lay them to rest. Hopefully that leg can be treated and if not I hope he can go well with 3 legs. Would still give him a chance, as long as it isn't cancer in his body. (and as long as they can survive well with 3 legs, many animals can but not all) The draft mare... I just can't find words for this. For her hooves to get this bad, she prolly was lame for a long time and propably when she was bred... how can you even think it is a good idea to breed a lame horse? If she wouldn't be in foal the decision would be easier, putting her to rest could be the kindest way because she is in a bunch of pain, and dissolved bone will not grow back. But of course, seeing that she has a new life in her that is completely innocent of it all makes it a very, very hard decision. I wish you all a lot of strength, pretty hard days right now, but nobody can judge the decision you take, because... there is no right or wrong in this case, for anyone with a heart and compassion. Maybe Pauly can give a bit more insight if there is any way to ease her of the pain, giving her the chance to have the foal and care for it for as long as she is able without it getting too cruel. I am supporting you and I will always do

That poor mare when I saw the x-rays.. I do not know what is viable but I would hope the mare could have her foal at least. And in the meantime Ponytails cane be reaching out to the community to find someone who may be better situated to take on a young foal that might need a nurse mare not common but possible or really dedicated bottle feeding. As long as it can get that first few feedings from mom for the colostrum. Then evaluate if it's time for mom to move to greener pastures. 2 more months of pain is awful to face but animals are very protective of young while we cannot read her mins I think she'd want to have this foal if it's her last gift. A possible name idea for the mom would be Faline Bambi's mother who gave her life to keep him safe

Omg that was such a HARROWING arrival. It could have gone so much worse. Good job jumping in and getting those horse extricated as quickly and gently as possible under the circumstances. The $1000 mare looks like an Arab/Saddlebred cross to me. I'm so glad you didn't quit bidding. That poor doomed pregnant mare breaks my heart. I hope you're able to mitigate her pain to a tolerable level until she can deliver a healthy foal, then release her from the pain. Horse Plus just had a surprise foal out of a mare they had checked but didn't show as pregnant, and another mare in her pasture "stole" the foal the morning it was born. So, they have that other mare who would be a great candidate for a surrogate. She obviously wants a foal of her own. Just a suggestion. I know you have a lot of thinking to do about it and decisions to make between now and June before the foal is born.

there is a lot of sub human trash walking around on this earth, obviously kill buyers being one but there is NO excuse for the shape some of these horses are in. Next thing, I feel for the people with health problems but that ponies feet didn't happen over night, all it takes is a call to a farrier and if you don't have the financial resources to care for these animals, DON'T own them, you can surrender them way before they get into the shape I see so many in..... I'm just disgusted.... God gave us a brain "USE IT"!
