6:10~6:15 It makes perfect sense to me that the display would not be suppressed during a calculation. When someone calculates on a chalkboard, or on an abacus, you can watch as the result takes shape. So why should it be different with a calculator? Do you have a slow motion camera? I would like to see this multiplication process in slow motion.
@1stSpyGuy7 жыл бұрын
I don't have a proper one, unfortunately, but I might be able to do some trickery with my current camera to slow it down somewhat, at least.
@1stSpyGuy7 жыл бұрын
I went ahead and did it with some editing. It'd no doubt be cooler with a real slowmo camera, but I'm happy with the result: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6iXc4KjjKp2eKc

IMHO, those are some funky-looking characters on that calculator's VFD display, they kind of have a handwritten style to them. Still an awesome piece of technology though, definitely quite state of the art in its era. And to think VFD displays are still used today for displays in some DVD/BD players, stereo receivers, status displays, and such. Probably the last "hollow-state" electronic technology still in common use today.

Fluorescent tube displays were common even for such advanced calcs as Electronica MK-52 (which they ended production only after USSR disintegration). But this one is a really old type... And yes, I'm always curious what happens when you divide by zero in any old machines.

We have an 1125. It has 26 keys, and a 16 digit Nixie Tube display, but there's some kind of electronic glitch now. When I turn it on and clear it out, all the digits light up 7s and 9s at the same time, no matter what. If I try to do any calculations at all, it goes into error. This started happening suddenly, maybe 10 years ago.

The answer to that big division there actually is 125.9638937681. The calculator said 125, which is correct (without decimal places of course). Maybe the numbers are too large for it to get the decimals? On an old mechanical calculator, the number of decimals you can get depends on the input numbers; maybe this one's design is just the same old, mechanical design, but made digital. After all, it's facit's first (or one of, I don't know this information) electrical calculator after many, many mechanical ones!
@rChaoz4 жыл бұрын
You could try repeating the same division but with the decimal places knob in different positions, maybe you can get different results?

Hey! I'm sure I will have some time. Right now it's a matter of things being busy, along with needing to work up the courage to put out another video after such a long time. =) The long delay since the last one has riled up the inner perfectionist and he's taken a dim view to just chucking something out there (in spite of that being the strategy so far).

Yes, a sad fact of life about those channels are that they tend to take videos without asking. Normally (this isn't my first rodeo) they give decent credit first in the description. I don't mind that so much, it's ok to want to share videos with your community, as long as you ask. This guy was instead abusing people by trying to get them to click some dodgy survey link.
