The opening scene from Wanted where homie jumps through the glass window in slow motion and we see the glass shattering across his face and he comes out absolutely BLASTING stuck out immediately to me when you asked

The whole baby thing could be influenced by an old story from the Warring States period where a warrior carried his lord's baby son through a battle. That story is shown in the movie Red Cliff directed by, guess who, John Woo.

I loved the premise of John wick breaking out a shotgun for the armored guys, he knew the rifles couldn't get through the armor and neither could the shotgun but the shotgun would pulverize whatever is behind the armor.

Yeah, shotgun slugs have massive energy, just because of how heavy they are. A 12 gauge slug is akin to a 75 caliber musket ball. At close range, it will hit with over a thousand pounds of force.😮

Regarding the copaganda thing, Woo had made a load of (kickass, absolutely rad) gangster/assassin themed films such as A Better Tomorrow and The Killer and was getting tired of being accused of glamourising criminals. So he sort of went "Oh, alright, here goes, the most awesome cop film ever." As for his range, guy started out doing some very weird comedies, including a completely bizarre Chinese Charlin Chaplin thing.

You don't strictly need slow mo for John Woo, debris is more important. Slow mo just shows it off best. That's why I say Control is basically if John Woo directed the X Files. The main character even has a Gender Swapped version of Mulder's backstory.

When John Wick fell down the stairs I took it as he intentionally kept going to try and build distance between him and his attackers.

Last year I worked with John Woo in the Movie "Silent Night" as a 2nd AD, he showed us several of his movies and explianed us a lot of things about how he works. He showed us "The Killer" and he pretty much told us that the script was unexistant and he and the actors pretty much made everything on the go. And after being present on the shooting of "Silent Night" here on Mexico, I can say the last 2 weeks of shooting it was pretty much like that, the guy knows what he is doing and a lot of: "the script? Fuck it, lets see what happens..."

For me for shoot-out scenes that stand out to me are the john wick movies cause they are really well scripted and how the actors do the stunts well

My Uncle still has a 360 copy of Stranglehold and yeah... He saw "John Woo" on the cover and went i know what im buying... It's not John Woo, but it is Antoine Fuqua with Chow Yun Fat, The Replacement Killers... For the last question-ish it would have to be Dodgeball honestly, like i would get ANNIHILATED by Globo Gym

22:15 - iirc, the front legs on a quadruped are technically arms (for example the front ‘knees’ are actually elbows), so if the dog touches the ball with its front paws, that should technically count as a handball. 😉

In a similar way to how Air Bud is bullcrap from the perspective of the other team, I always kinda felt annoyed on behalf of the other band in School of Rock. So, Jack Black brings in this group of kids who weren't supposed to participate in the battle of the bands, the committee lets them play despite the event being overbooked because they were told these are all terminally ill children. It turns out the other band actually won, they were not beaten by a bunch of kids, but then the audience boos you and asks for an encore from the kids. If the band were a bunch of nice guys, they might have gone "Ok, cool we won. Let's support the terminally ill children and give them their moment". But if they later figured out that they weren't terminally ill at all, then they were adult musicians trying to make it as pros and got upstaged by a group of kids even though they fucking won! They won and the entire crowd cheered for the other team making it look like they didn't win because of their skills but because the competition was rigged.

I think something like the mighty ducks. Imagine spending so much of your young life training and working hard only to be one of the no name teams to lose to a group that didn't even want to put in a the effort without wacky hijinks to practice for the game.

In Portland Oregon, a theater was going to show a double feature of Hard Boiled and The Killer (which is my favorite John Woo movie), and John Woo was going to be the here for a post movie Q&A. Unfortunately, that was scheduled for April of 2020, so it never happened. Tickets sold out fast, but not nearly as fast as when Wu Tang Clan was there to watch the 36th Chamber of Shaolin.

For the Mighty Ducks, Bombay the coach is a prickly lawyer who has a win at all cost person. So it is so in character. The Karate Kid ... yeah but the Johnny character does hate Danny for decades and kinda messes up his life because he couldn't get over it.

I can't be the only one who think that the famous fight scene in Oldboy (both the original and the American one) feels more like a melee-only John Woo scene than your usual beat up scene? I mean, it as a continous shoot, wide angle to show hero vs lot of enemies on screen, lot of movement with pushes from the hero to make distance from the enemies and despite the one vs an army ratio, it end up with tons of bodies on the ground and a wounded hero victorious.

When the Terminator catches up to Kyle and Sara after the Tech Noir shootout, in the parking garage. You see the Terminator change his facial expression to signify that he has acquired his target. He shoots 25 shells. Which I believe is slugs. And reloads at least 5 times.

I also like when you hit the video title early on. I feel like I bounce pretty quickly if it doesn’t come in the first 4-5mins unless the convo is really good, which it often is.
