Hi all. We have aqcuired a mic arm for the audio issues and have been using it in videos that are already released, this video was just a recording from before getting the mic arm. There may be a couple of videos left to edit that still don't have the mic arm used, but it shouldn't really be a problem in the future. - Lucas

You didn't mention the one anecdote that every single Italian knows about Paganini. The one time he was asked to do an encore after a performance, he declined to do so by saying “Paganini does not repeat himself”. That sentence is still used by Italians today, either in contrast to someone doing the same thing over and over again (as in “Paganini does not repeat himself, but this guy sure does”) or to imply that you’re way above repeating yourself. It's supposed to sound as pretentious as humanly possible (although I guess Paganini could back it up)

Despite going to music school as an additional curriculum, I did not know much about Paganini. So the most active use of his name for me is a Russian anecdote. In it a guy asks another guy named Mykola (a regional version of Nikolai) to play a violin, repeatedly, in Ukrainian dialect. And every time Mikola refuses. Eventually the guy turns to "the audience" and declares: "You just heard Mykola Paganyny's 7th Caprice" (misspelled specifically to show a shift in pronunciation). The anecdote relies on the direct use of the word "caprice" in Russian and on a dialectic name version that sounds very similar to Niccolo.

The thing with a violin loosing its quality of sound if not played, is a real thing. The wood of the instrument needs to vibrate regularly to resonate beautifully. And also, the more in tune you play, the fuller the resonant vibrations and the higher the quality of sound. Playing keeps a violin (or any wooden instrument) alive.

16:45 Slight correction here, the guitar that Brian May owns is called The Red Special or The Fireplace, because the wood for its neck was pulled from the mantle of a fireplace. The Frankenstrat was designed by Eddie Van Halen, and is one of the grandfathers of modern heavy metal guitar design, though it's a bit less... refined than the one Brian May has.

A bit of a rumour, and can't verify its source, but there is the tale where a trio of disheartened violinists tried to sabotage Paganini during a concerto: they got to his violin just before he went on stage, and nicked two of his strings. During the performance the strings snapped. Paganini, the badass that he was, didn't mind at all and FINISHED THE CONCERTO on the remaining two strings.

Some people are so defined by one characteristic that their entire existence is shattered when they realize that they're not the best. I've witnessed first hand what happens when the person that wins every single time then moves up to a national or international level and realizes that they're not even top 100. I've even witnessed artists that watch a video online of somebody doing their style in a way that's so much better than they could ever achieve and it causes them to give up. Most of the time when people drop it and never go back it's because they were so sold on the idea that they're the best at that medium that they can't handle the idea when somebody shows them that they're not even close.

7:30 this is false. Orchestras today are WAY more technically proficient than those of Mozart's day. Also, that Beethoven 5th you played an excerpt from has been sped up with a computer, you can tell by the distortion. Traditionally some orchestras did play it a bit slower, but no one plays it as fast as that, nor should they.

so I very much enjoy classical music and also watch 2 set violin semi regularly; fast doesn't necessarily equate with more difficult, you also have to keep in mind with where the music is performed. In college I was lucky enough to travel to Europe (from midwest US) and we got to perform in a proper church some original latin church music. During rehearsals you would have these pauses in the music that didn't make proper sense, but in that church that pause would allow the echoes to die down and not interfere with the next chord, I think we all got goosebumps and stared at each other, it was really cool. But nifty video and cary on :)

I tried to learn the violin, because my parents made me. They eventually got frustrated and so did I that I wasn't improving that I stopped even trying. Learning the violin is harder than what people think. In fact, I am not musically inclined when it comes to musical instruments. I don't have the dexterity, or the mental attention span to even learn how to play one of these. Dang ADHD.

I'm not going to be an ass like most people would be in this moment but, you have the Red special and The Frankenstrat kind of switched/ combined as you mention in this video. They have similar stories so it's not difficult to see how they got mixed up. The big dick baller Brain May of Queen did build a guitar with his father that he still uses as his number one axe to this day. That guitar is called the red special and is indeed "special" do to it's innovative electronics allowing many different combinations of it's three pick ups (notably The "nasally" out-of-phase sounds you hear in the solo for killer queen.) The one and only Frankenstrat was wielded by non other than the legendary Eddie Van Halen who built it with Imitation Fender parts and a Gibson 335 pick up that was extremely unorthodox for it's time combining his favorite parts of two completely different guitar designs and leading to the term "Super strat" used to describe the combination on future guitars. This comment isn't to be a jerk and correct you, just a fun opportunity to talk about two of my favorite guitars and guitarists. I'm well aware most won't care about my rant but hopefully a few of you learned something.

That having extremely long fingers of Paganini is such an OP power skill as a musician of a stringed instrument such as a violin and others like it. For a modern example, John Mayer is known to have a slightly long thumb, this has made him play his guitar in a rather particular way that it's difficult for many guitarists to do since not everyone can reach with their thumb what he can, the best example of this is probably the acoustic version of Neon, a song that, while many can play, not many play exactly like John does (this, using the same fingers at all times that he does). Now, imagine that's what happens when you get 1 long finger, if the 5 were like this, it's almost as if Paganini was musically a totally different kind of being.

Hi everyone at fact fiend! I wanted to say how much I appreciate your dedication to only 1 ad per video. I decided to go to school which cut my work hours and one of the things i decided to cut for my budget was youtube premium. I have had youtube premium for years and had no idea how bad the ads have gotten. Trying to watch other content creators and watching you all is such a difference. I get to actually enjoy your video while doing other things. For a lot of other creators i keep forgetting what the video is even about if i don't skip the every 5min ads or get annoyed having to switch over to skip. Yeah, but the difference between Jaws and Transformers is that Jaws is well-written, well-directed and well-acted. Transformers isn't. Jaws is still popular after 50 years because it's good. The first Michael Bay Transformers is 15 years old and hardly anyone watches it any more- he just churns out sequels every few years to keep the franchise alive based on marketing hype and improvements in special effects. There were lots of other playwrights around in Shakespeare's time that were popular back then, but nobody bothers performing or reading any more because they don't have as many themes that people can still identify with or are just not as good.

For anyone who might be interested in exploring some violin music after watching this. I cannot recommend David Garrett enough. He's probably the greatest violinist of the modern era and his music is very approachable because he covers a lot of classic rock songs. Happy listening
