The banker who made the dumb comment about "someone needs to accept they're poorer" was the governor of the Bank of England. Not a commercial bank, the central bank. The one who's meant to help manage inflation so that we don't all feel poorer and makes 6 figures a year.

@@thestic6349 the other concern is about whether you lose the wealth in the first place if you take people's incentives away to work (wage taxes) or invest (capital gains taxes) or save (wealth taxes). I heard a story, I don't know if it's true, but apparently one time at Microsoft, one of their earlier versions of Windows was too complicated and the designers were told that they need to make it simpler because most users couldn't understand it. One of the designers apparently replied with something like "It's not our fault that most users are stupid"

Actually, the antenna on the iPhone 4 worked fine to hold to your ear.... If you held it in your right hand, holding a specific way in your left hand caused the issues, so it was a lefty issue, guess Apples designers are not left handed, or they just use their phones like assholes.

I don't care that power users are the minority market, it's the fact that tech companies are constantly removing features that many people use in the name of "simplicity," when it's entirely possible to have a well-designed device that "just works" but also put power user features behind a settings screen. You can have a phone for work that takes nice pictures but also allow other users of the same device to install emulators or whatever weird shit they want, they are not exclusive concepts. They just deliberately don't do that.

If you happen to read this. Here's the clarification no one asked for on the Canon lenses. When Canon started making digital cameras they introduced the EF mount to replace their old FD mount. The EF mount (the one with the red dot) is used in full frame DSLR cameras. Eventually they released the EFs mount. The EFs mount (the one with the white square) is used in APS-C sensors (basically a somewhat smaller sensor). Some APS-C cameras have a EF-EFs mount. This only means that you can use either EF or EFs lenses. With the introduction of mirrorless cameras a new lens mount was created. The EFm (I think this is the name at least) (the ones with the silver ring near the mount). This was necessary because the flange (distance between the rear end of the lens and the sensor) was smaller. This can get way more confusing when you get adapters in the mix. But that's the clarification on Canon lenses no one asked for. Cheers

The thing is that there is smart people inside these companies, but they are only to implement someone else idea and shut up, there is also a lot of stupid people taking stupid decitions that we have to deal with. The story of the iphone is infamous among the industry on how jobs put two teams against each other, overworking employees and making it a really hostile environment. Even in the presentation he humilliated the team lead of the losing team by erasing his number. And even there the iphone wasn't working, it was all a show now, figure it out later. Jobs got lucky, because if no team would eventually figured it out, apple would have gone full theranos.

The thing about Windows 8 isn't entirely the whole story. You'd know if you worked in the development space when 8 came out. The real reason for the squares was they were trying to make a UNIVERSAL OS (Called UWP or Universal Windows Platform) look that would work on computers, tablets, the XBox, the Windows phone, and HoloLens. Yes it had elements of touch inspiring it but the idea was to have the "same" user experience across ALL the disparate devices Windows would run on.

When it comes to cameras it's pretty common to for brands to have 2 fittings. Bc theres crop sensors (smaller sensors) and full range sensors (larger). I'm pretty sure it isn't that hard to make a fitting that fits both. But it makes monetarily more sense to force people to upgrade lenses when they upgrade from the beginner budget crop sensor to the hobby/proffesional budget full range sensor

The bit where Apple missed the problem with the antenna was off. It had nothing to do with how Apple employees hold phones. It was an issue that was missed because everyone who tested the device probably tested it with a case. It was a brand new product design and these things needed to be tested in public. So anyone testing most likely had a case on it to keep it covered. The problem ended up only occurring when the phone was held with your bare hand. Thats why Apple gave out free cases that year to solve the issue.

The Iphone 4 issue, I worked for apple support at the time when this was happening. It was a nightmare and no one in support could believe that they designed the phone like that. They tried every excuse to say it was something else until the breakdown of the phone by independent reviewers took apart the phone and showed the issue. So they gave out what was literally large rubber bands to go around the phone to put space between the users hands and the antenna, or being told that they were holding their phone wrong.
@jwjeff11
@jwjeff11 Жыл бұрын
I remember the iphone 4 issue. I think the issue was actually your hand short circuiting the antenna. Your hand can't simply block a cell phone signal. Apple's "solution" was to give everyone a free case for the phone so you don't touch it directly.

Not to talk bad about apple because they've done great things. Like forcing foxcon to put circus nets around their factory to prevent suicide. That is actually pretty funny since the worker contracts already includes a clause that states they are not allowed to comit suicide while they work there. Shouldn't that be enough? 😂😂😂

10:17. A more likely reason is the “field test models” (i can’t be bothered to look up their actual name) had to have a chunky plastic case on it to make it look like the Iphone 3G, thus when you would hold it, the antenna wasn’t blocked by your hand. So it slipped through in the final round of testing.
@darthnovii
@darthnovii Жыл бұрын
A minor correction on the antenna problem you were talking about. The problem was that the antenna ran along the outside edge of the phone, essentially forming a loop with a very small gap. When you place a part of your hand in such a way that you bridge that gap, it creates a short from the start of the loop to the end of the loop, preventing signals from inducing a current on the antenna, preventing the phone from receiving those signals. To be perfectly blunt, having the antenna on the outside of the phone was dumb on its own. Creating an opportunity for a short makes me question the intelligence of every person who worked on the design.

The iPhone 4 would drop calls when you held it a certain way because your skin would bridge the plastic insulated gap on the stainless steel frame between different antennas. It was missed during it’s development because pre production iPhones are stored in special cases when used in public to prevent the design from leaking. This case prevented the antennas from being bridged. This is why Apple gave iPhone 4 owners a free case shortly after this issue was discovered.
