@@niggachuu3391 A Wizard in D&D or most fantasy games or books, are typically pretty rare and a commodity because there are so few magic users, so they have jobs that can get them lots of money for what they would consider to be beneath them and not worth their time. But they also require lots of money for their research and expenses, rare enchanted items, spell books, rare ingredients, mentors, etc. So they typically do things like enchanting items for rich people, doing chores for more powerful Wizards, fight in wars, and adventure for money, typically they find it beneath them and not something they should have to waste their time with. It could also just be that he is so skilled that its like he is using magic.

Actually, there have only been 34 televised 300 games. And if the happen, the lane will actually be measured and tested to see if it officially counts. They used to also test the ball and actually shut down the place for the rest of the day because 300 games are that special. Bonusses have gone up to $1mil, though most were 10 grand. The rules surrounding football players taking their shirts off when celebrating are not to do with show boating but are somehow even more ridiculous. It all comes down to sponsors getting pissed off because they've paid money to get their brand on a shirt and part of the contract covers using images and video footage for use in their own publicity and this is virtually pointless if the brand is not visible during arguably the most important moments of a game. Initially they just tried asking clubs to hand out reprimands for removing their shirts during celebrations but that proved too hard to implement in a way that satisfied both parties so the FA had to step in and include a clause that removing your shirt during goal celebrations will result in a yellow card

The reason for the 147 prize money going down is because Tobacco companies no longer sponsor the game. It used to be £147,000 at one point for the world champs. Not sure what it is now but it is usually in the low tens for highest break, which is shared if more than 1 player makes the maxi.

What seems more commercially corrupt in football to me is that (if this is still true) they don't have video replays to sort out disputes, basically because they know that more people watch it if there's more stuff to get angry over. There's absolutely no sporting reason not to have replays. Do they have them now, or still not? Was a while ago since I last watched any.

Jane Ross Unsure if we're talking american football or soccer here, but in soccer they indeed don't show controversial incidents in replays at the arena itself (they do show it on tv), because if it's a mistake by the referee or something then the crowd could get angry enough to attack each other during or after the match

What I mean is that they refuse to allow the refs themselves to use video replays in order to check their calls during the game. Their calls stand, even regardless of if they quickly realize they made a mistake afterwards. If the organizing bodies would just allow them to look at the tape when they weren't sure... it'd solve a lot of those problems you mention. But they know that those problems and rivalries sell tickets, and that's the real reason they don't allow it. I mean, this is second hand information from a soccer (as you'd call it) fan through me, a non-fan. So I'm just repeating the reasoning I heard about it from someone else. But it makes sense though doesn't it?

I'm surprised you didn't bring up when he went too fast for the spotter during his world record speed 147 break. The chalk thing is pretty common in most leagues. Marking the table of any sort of way is prohibited. Some leagues will force you to carry multiple colors of cue chalk so you aren't using the same color as the felt. It helps to determine if the tip of the cue hit the table, which is a foul.

I had a friend in school who was really good at smash bros, onetime we were doing a mini tournament for the club, only about 12 of us, the entire tournament he played under a desk using a mirror, apparently he couldn't even see the top half of the screen and we were playing on battle field stages so he couldn't see the top platform and to top it all off he played as little mac, he one the tournament only loosing his second stock once, AS LITTLE MAC. That is the story of my high-schools classic/video game clubs biggest controversy as everyone was so annoyed that we never did another tournament. As an American, the only snooker we get to see here is on youtube, as no networks televise it and no one carries Eurosport TV over here. But I love to watch those guys, the precision, the strategy, just makes snooker a great game. However, I was not aware of all the stupid rules that the players have to put up with. I did come across that one whilst fact checking during the edit, along with a load of others. I think when Karl originally wrote the article, he was looking for what he believed to be the most ridiculous sounding of his 'scandals'. My personal favourite that I found was telling the referee to get his eyes checked after objecting to his call about a touching ball. Also, we never intend for them to last 15 minutes. Snooker is a much better game than pool, it's far more tactical and about skill(honestly pool is played with bigger pockets on a smaller table with less consequences for bad play, it's a great game to start with or to play in the pub after a few drinks, but it requires so much less skill, planning and experience to be good at pool than snooker). You should look up some videos, there's matches won in a single break, tactical matches where they exchange 20 shots before a ball gets potted(because potting something would force you to open up the rest or foul so they keep going back and forth trying to force the other into playing the bad shot), and games where the whole match comes down to forcing someone to take the same shot every time they foul until they concede, but if you understand the rules of the game and why it's happening it's all fascinating to watch.

@@photonicpizza1466 I had thought myself that it was a serious whap. I thought it nearly broke in real time so I went back to do a frame by frame and it looks like it's made out of licorice. I'm less convinced now because you're absolutely right, but a thing (slow mo or not) can't oscillate with a greater amplitude than what it would bend if the same force were applied to it constantly, instead of as an impulse (this is talking about a single whap, now. All bets are off when there are multiple whaps because you could get into harmonic oscillation and natural frequencies). Now go back and watch frame by frame. Stop at the point you think the deformation is at its maximum and tell me how much force you think it would take to bend a cue that much. On the other hand, I've only ever played 8-ball, so I have no idea if the cues in snooker are softer wood or slimmer or something. If so, I'll take it all back because I have no reference other than the cue sticks I'm used to.

The American football player was Michael Vick, a Quarterback that played for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2000's he was the forerunner for QBs being mobile and being able to pass well, and was convicted of dogfighting and was off of football for years, and, (dont quote me on this) came back and had some decent seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles

I've played both snooker and pool a lot over my life and my highest brake at snooker is 47 whereas on pool, I can clear up 7 or so out of 10 times, if you are alright at playing snooker then pool is a very easy game to play.

I do remember him playing 9 ball pool a lot on the tv a few years back but I don't know if he play any other pool games, anyway, never been a big fan of 9 ball pool, it's too easy of a game to play and it allows a much more poorer player to be able to beat a pro, I mean like me for instant, I'm no pro but I can clear up on 9 ball pool about 7 out of 10 times whereas on Snooker I wont even come close to doing that lol.

Secondly, do you have ANY idea how much of a head start a million dollars actually is? If you're working with investment, the effects of having money are exponential. I can guarantee you it's massively easier to make 10 million out of 1 million than it is to make 1 million out of 100,000 Which in turn is vastly easier than making 100,000 out of 10,000 Money comes from money. Don't delude yourself into thinking social mobility is real. There is not quite enough data to say conclusively whether any modern country is defying this trend, but off the data we have, the US certainly isn't one of them. Self-made millionaires are by and large a myth. A fairytale. A nice story to tell people to give them hope, but with very little basis in reality. Social mobility in the modern age is roughly the same as it was during feudal times. Someone like trump comes from a wealthy family, and surprise, surprise, he's wealthy himself. He sure as hell isn't self-made with that kind of head start. And he absolutely was never, EVER remotely working class or even middle class. It's such a weird form of self-delusion that people believe a person like that is somehow 'self-made', when he's every bit the aristocratic upper class twat as of the pretentious, smug people that make up the british upper classes. Snooker is intresting in playing that I enjoy doing that but not really intrested in watching, it's too stuck in there ways where they shoot you on sight if you make any kind of noise in the arena, it's crazy really because I think if they liven up snooker more like pool is, I suspect more of the public would be more intrested in it, snooker in the 80's was far more intresting because they let the snooker players have some fun where now it's very dry and boring and why it's been in decline ever since. In any case, the snooker governing body needs to wake up to the realitys of the time, snooker just like any sport is about entertainment and they are killing that aspect of it, if they really want to revive snooker and get more people into it then they really need to change.

he didn't play MOST of the game left handed against robidoux, it was just a number of isolated shots throughout the game, which came to a head when robidoux memorably refused to concede the final frame because he thought o'sullivan took the piss. more hilarious was when o'sullivan started deliberatly missing easy pots in this period of the final frame as a 'fuck you' back to robidoux.

I would hazard a guess that when he "snapped" his cue, it's more likely the fine was for doing it against the table than it was for the action in and of itself. Aside from the value of the tables and that they are leased in many competitions, there's a risk of such an action damaging the felt and so causing problems for game-play. It makes sense to fine someone for an action that could potentially damage the table in some way, even if they ultimately didn't, but more to dissuade future players from doing something similar and actually damaging the table during a (televised) competition. You can see how much the cue flexes when he taps it (10:14), so can you imagine what would happen if he managed to divot or put a hole in the felt? Embarrassingly, I've messed up a jump shot and put a hole in a table once (which incidentally is the reason jump-shots are illegal moves in both pool and snooker), so I know it requires a fair bit of force to do. But if it had happened in that game by sheer bad luck, at best they'd have a spare table to move to, but I'm not even sure how you handle moving balls across mid-frame, and worst re-felt the table? I imagine his opponent would be awarded the frame and they move to the new table with Ronnie breaking? Genuinely curious now, does anyone know what happens if the table is damaged during a game? Any video examples would be much appreciated!

He's described as the unhappiest man in snooker because he was suffering from diagnosed depression and struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. Issues that would have at least been complicated by family connections to organised crime and his father being sent down for murdering someone. Minor tangles with etiquette have been the least of his problems.
