Video games are always striving for realism, but there's only so far that the graphics can take you. Adding subtle details can really sell a game, which is what Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater did all the way back in 2004.

You forgot the most detailed bit of MGS3. If you catch a live snake, throw it at a guard, let the snake bite and kill the guard, then catch the snake again and eat it. later in the game you will fight the sorrow where you will be confronted by the ghosts of every person you've killed so far. The ghost of that guard will appear and say "you ate me!"
@damianfitzgerald1163
@damianfitzgerald1163 6 жыл бұрын
Elmo and Porkchop i thought this was the case for eating vultures? He didn't even mention all the guards there are people you've actually killed and how you killed them. When you do a no kill run only the bosses are in the river. Also the way you kill them is shown too. I did a playthrough that was mostly dick shots to test this out and most of the soldiers were holding their bloody groins screaming at me

In the 3DS port of MGS3 first person aiming is in 3D but after Snake looses an eye first person aiming is 2D for the rest of the game.
@krisd5697
@krisd5697 6 жыл бұрын
Actually, aiming with the iron sights always switches to 2D because it'd be very difficult to aim in 3d. The Resident Evil games on 3ds use a laser sight for this reason. Looking in 1st person without a gun is in 3D both before and after he loses his eye.
@PanzerMan332

Like, imagine if you had to force yourself to invert your hip sight or whatever to your left side? Like, you can do it in MGS5: GZ, but it doesnt effect your vision in this sort of way. >w>'

On the topic of the Russian speaking: They all speak Russian throughout without any accent, as the main character would be hearing the Russian and interpreting it in his own head in his own native language and accent (English)... EXCEPT for a few lines where they are actually speaking English. In these scenes and only in for these lines, they have Russian accents, to indicate that the Russian speaker is now speaking in English with the expected Russian accent. That is a fucking great attention to detail in my opinion.

@@MaxUltimata It was probably a matter of the voices not fitting with the characters or some ideas that he could express well in English/Japanese not fully making the translation to Russian. Kojima and his team seem to have a very keen ear for voices, which is why the credits for all the MGS games read like a who's who in the world of voice acting, and they would have immediately cut anything that made the characters sound unintentionally funny or like the voice acting was bad.

One of my favorite things is in a game in the Castlevania series, you get the "Sword in the Stone" from Arthurian legend. But since your character isn't the King of Britain, he can't pull the sword from the stone, so what does he do? Lift the whole thing, stone still attached to the sword, and use it like a war hammer. It's a pretty hilarious and weird, yet logical jump in reasoning.

When you go into the menu where you can analyze Snake's injuries and whatnot, you can spin him around. If you spin him around really fast for a few seconds, he'll get motion sick, and when you leave the menu, Snake vomits on the ground. Later in the game, when Snake is captured and needs to escape his cell, one of the ways to escape is to pop into the injury menu, spin Snake around a whole bunch, leave, and have Snake vomit on the floor, which will alert the guard who barges into the room to make sure Snake isn't dying. From there, you just knock the guard out, and leave.

That whole prison scene was amazing. In the og ps2 version if you saved the game Paramedic would talk about Dracula.. Turns out Snake hates vampires! If you turn off the system, then boot up the game again you'll be on a playable nightmare sequence where you slice up enemies with dual swords. Then there was the scene you could get if you keep throwing the food the guard gives you back. Eventually he opens up and if i remember correctly reveals he was Raiden's Father.

Fun facts: Since it's a stealth mission snake eats everything raw. You can get a cold and the snezzes alert enemies. You can kill The end before his boss fight and avoid it entirely. Killing the engieners working in The not Metal Gear (forgot the name, bassically a tank) it will start with less health. The game will ask your favorite MG game, your answer will grant you a different bonus. Wounds that heal on their own increse your health. You can practice revolver tricks with ocelot during his boss fight, you can also copy his fighting style and make bullets bounce on the envierent to hit him behind cover. You can kite The fear with food, he will eat all types even poison. Enemys are afraid of spiders and snakes, throw a poisonous one and it will bite them aswell. Save while captured in the big base and reload, you will enter a minigame where you ala devil may cry fight ghouls, zombies? Vampires? Idk. Snake is afraid of vampires, they give him nightmares, the minigame is one of these. Make sure to talk with your team via radio, they have useful info plus chit chat that gives them a lot of character, for example: The boss= Your mom Paramedic=Geek girl You can hold soldiers and get radio frecuencies for diferent thing like aerial suport or call off alerts. Blow up armories and enemys will only have one cartuge. Ocelot is The boss and The sorrows son. The sorrow boss fight shows ALL your kills so far plus how you kill them. Eat a vulture after it ate someones body, you are now a cannibal. You can find toy frogs all around the game, shoot them all and you will get an invisible suit. Doesn't hide sound nor scent so be careful.

The thing that really sucks about games getting shit out with zero thought is that when a game finally comes along that puts in this kind of attention to detail I won't notice until someone else points it out to me because 'of course that's not going to be in the game, why would it be?' I played nearly all the way through Breath of the Wild without ever once using most of the mechanics in the game because the game never called attention to them (not that I would want it to). Modern gaming has actually trained me to be _less_ creative when problem solving because so many games are made in such a creatively-bankrupt paint-by-numbers fashion now.

You have to really play a game for an unrealistic amount of time to find that shit IN YOUR OWN PLAYTHROUGH. If that stuff doesnt happen to you, does it even matter? They just become like super hidden easter eggs that arent fun. But im all in for little details in animations like in the last of us and uncharted. Ps: i hated the arrows thing in mgs3 cuz i got one in snakes finger and it bugged out so i couldnt take it out. It would block my view when aiming pistols in first person and it was horrible to look at in cutscenes as he had a huge arrow sticking out of his pointing finger.

Sorry, but I don't think that would be as good as you imagine it. In fact, I think it would be terrible. Combining two things that are good on their own does not necessarily make a better one; sometimes what makes them good is mutually exclusive, and any combination of the two would simply end up ruining both. For a good example of this, try and take all your favorite foods, throw them in a blender, and drink the resulting sludge. According to your idea, this should be a masterpiece of a meal.

In Dark Souls 1 there is an item you can create your character having from the start. Its description says it does nothing, but you can still 'use' it. The first MGS game I played was the 3DS port of SnakeEater. There is so much depth that I finished it thirteen times. I've played it without killing anyone and had a playthrough with a leech draining my stamina for the whole game, I've messed around with all the secrets I could find, I used the mask and glowing mushroom against Volgin, I killed The End with my sniper before the boss battle began, I left poisonous food for The Fear and guards to eat, but I still had no idea about most of the things you said. MGS3 will always be my favourite game.

One thing you'll miss on the 3ds port is cutting the ropes on the bridge near the beginning of the game. If you shoot the ropes while guards are near them, you can make the guards fall off the edge. It was removed from the 3ds because of the motion controls added to balance on the bridge, which already make running across as hard as it was with the ropes cut.

There is quite a bit of content cut out from the 3DS port, but it makes up for it with the simplified controls and the ability to move while crouched. I actually find it annoying to try playing the version in the HD collection, aside from being so used to the 3ds controls, not having the ability to crouch means you have no middle ground between slow and undetected and fast but noticeable, which is fine in the other games, but when you're in a wide open jungle terrain, it is infuriating. Along with that, the 3DS version has better aim sensitivity and your weapon is already out.

Willy the fire-putter-outter I dont think battlefield was the best example to use there. When it comes to realism in fps games, you can do much better than battlefield, the best examples being the arma games and red orchestra 2. You can get killed by the muzzle blast of a tank cannon, no objective markers along with no 'you are here' markers on your map so you need navigational skills, no ammo counters, barrels can over heat, realistic bullet penetration, bullet drop. And as if thats not enough realism, people have gone and created mods for arma 3 that model the effects of wind, air-drag, temperature, humidity, the magnus and coriolis effect and other things so that the in-game ballistics are as life-like as possible. Its rediculous how crazy people can get when it comes to realism.

Dwarf Fortress is still the most ridiculously realistic game ever, despite literally being rendered with text. There's a great story where the devs were trying to work out why cats were randomly dropping dead and puking everywhere. It took them a while, but as it turns out, the dwarves in taverns were spilling lots of alcohol on the ground, which isn't super surprising, given their permanently intoxicated nature. However, cats often walked through said taverns to get around, getting the booze on their feet. Then, a while later, they would be licking themselves to clean up, and ingest the alcohol. For a normal dwarf, this would be no big deal, but for that cats, that spiked their blood alcohol levels, getting them all extremely drunk and causing them to vomit aggressively. Most of them lick-drank themselves to death, and the survivors wound up with such a severe dependency on it that they began going out of their way to head to the tavern, and if they couldn't get their fix, became increasingly angry, eventually leading to cat riots. Dwarf Fortress! (Note: if a vampire is present and does not want to kill anyone, it may sneak over to a battlefield to drink from bodies, and if that's not possible, will drink the blood off of swords and armor.)

I was actually really disappointed in MGS3D for dropping the ball when they had the opportunity to add in another awesome detail: when you go into first-person view, the game automatically turns off 3D mode, presumably because aiming down the gun sights in 3D would have been disorienting. Instead, what they should have done: left it as-is, where aiming down the sights would be disorienting... but you easily solve this by closing one of your eyes, just like you'd do while aiming a real life gun. Not to mention the certain late-game event that would play havok with your depth perception.

I'm addicted to MGS 3, to the point where I would consider it to be my favourite game ever, and I would say I know all the little details pretty well but there are some that are new to me from just watching this video, which just goes to show how well this game ages in that there are still things to be found in it.

Oliver Hilton it’s so good. It came out when I was 14, and I thought it was the coolest shit ever. To this day, it’s the only video game I’ve been able to play more than a couple times. I usually play it once or twice a year. It plays like the best spy/action movie in history

I liked how the guns worked in Farcry 2, getting the crappier ones owned by soldiers would jam frequently or, one time I was in a fight and one quite literally blew up in my hands leaving me with nothing to use.

I come back to this video every few months, because it is my favorite of ALL TIME. I enjoy every little thing, even though i play on very easy with the "i like mgs2" question. It's so good in terms on what we knew then as an MGS franchise, and how to keep pacing with one character. I've never played mgs1 but i know it is a tad unforgiving, and i had the taste in mgs4. But with the bosses, the world, the weapons, and many different ways to deal with different situations; it is my most favorite game of all time. Also, that's my problem, my bottle is never full enough.

Some of my favorite details are from the Metroid Prime games. As it is in first person, the attention to detail is phenomenal. Steam fogs up your visor, blood from killed creatures can splatter on your helmet, rain droplets land and fall down the visor, you can see your character's reflection in the visor when there is a bright light flashed near you, EMP devices scramble and disrupt your visor and cover it in static. They thought of everything possible to immerse you in the eyes of Samus.

Chrono trigger and the army of cats! in the game there is a point where you can win a cat, and after that point, cat food.. and if you keep winning more and more food, more cats will move inn at your house, and there is even a scene in one of the endings that your mom runs after them all through the portal.

I was making a game in RPG Maker once with a house filled with cats and a red carpet. Only if you went upstairs the red carpet thinned out into a blood trail leading to a wardrobe containing an arm (which you could put in your inventory and sell), because the cats ate the owner.

One of my favorites that I didn't see anyone mention is that in Hollow Knight there's one area in a section called City of Tears, and in one of the buildings there was a stage. After a certain point in the game, you can see these harmless ghosts, and there's this one who sings the background music to the area in the building. If you kill the ghost because you're a monster or did it by accident because they were in the way, the music reverts to the original version.

Uncharted 4 has some epic fame details including accurate rope physics and light lighting up through ear cartilage. My fave however is when you slide down a muddy hill not only will your clothing pick up mud but if you pull your pistol out of its holster the gun has mud on it where it wasn't covered by the holster.

I remember in my first playthrough of MGS3, I had an interesting experience with the boss called "The End". (For those of you who haven't played, he's a professional sniper. He's also quite elderly.) I was having trouble with the boss fight, so I saved, quit, played Final Fantasy X for a few days, and came back to try again. Much to my surprise, The End *died of old age* while I was away, and I no longer had to deal with his boss fight. While I was robbed of the boss fight I had just psyched myself up to try again, I was also so stunned and amused that I couldn't even stay mad.

There’s a small dumb detail in inFAMOUS that I love is that the main character conducts electricity, and throughout the city there are small insignificant puddles. You can stand in these, and electricity starts flying around in it. This kill enemies and civilians instantly. However it’s not just that. Better yet, if you throw an electric grenade, it takes a few seconds to explode. However, if you throw one of the electric grenades into a puddle, it goes off instantly. EDIT: I’ve got two more. 1. This is something in the original Metal Gear Solid before you even start the game. If you go into briefings, you get a quick cutscene of Snake being brought in. If you watch all the briefing cutscenes that explain everything and leave that section, there will be a scene Snake agreeing to go on the mission. If you just watch that first cutscene and leave, Snake will be forced by Colonel Campbell. 2. In Batman: Arkham Asylum, in the Arkham Mansion, there is a metal detector. If you walk through it, it goes off. That’s fun enough, but when there’s a stealth segment in that same area, and you walk into the metal detector, it goes off and alerts the guards to your presence.

I know it's probably old news by now, but one of my favourite dumb details in games is in Farcry 4. At the start of the game, K-Pop fanboy and local dictator, Pagan Min captures you and... lets say he invites you to dinner. After a bit of fun torturing a rebel he gets an important phone call. He leaves and lets you know that he'll be back in a bit and he'll explain everything to you then. If you actually wait the whole 15 minutes instead of joining the dumb rebellion, Pagan does return, just as promised. No tricks either. He takes you to Lakshmana and you win the game. It's not as satisfying, of course, but it is less morally dubious and pretty hilarious.

Nobod mentioned the fourth wall breaking moments in mgs 1 when youre fighting psycho mantis where he reads your memory cards and switches what controller ports youre using and how the screen goes black and says "Hideo 2" in the corner just like how your tv would look if you didnt have your system on and your system was plugged into video port 2. Soooooo god damn cool.

Gothic was probably the first game in which the NPCs have real tasks. They sleep at night, work at day, sometimes they take a piss etc. Also you can't just go into a house of someone else. If you do they will get angry and after a while attack you or call for the guards which will then attack you. And depending on where you are it is accepted to knock people down and steal their stuff, because this society allows it. But don't kill them! That is not allowed.

I love how certain item drops from npcs in Dark Souls give you insight into their character. Obviously, there are unique drops, but the times where they drop a common item like a coin gives a clue as to their place of origin or such are just fascinating.

if you tranquilize the bosses you can get their camo, however with the end boss fight you have to hold up in order to get his camo. but tranquilizing him will give you his mosin nagant, the only other tranquilizer gun in the game and super helpful for the following levels. Also if you get though the game without being seen at all you get the stealth camouflage which makes you invisible. And then there's the Tsushinoko, the snake you catch twice to get the infinite ammo face paint... god i love this game... one more for the road: if you have the single action army on your second play through, if you go into first person and move the stick around, you can spin the gun. If you do this in front of ocelot he will come out of cover to show off, giving you a clear shot. (plus you can shoot his hat off and he will come out to retreave it) (and you can cqc the boss back in the end fight)
